i tried a Randall Titan and it really sucked

very disappointing experience... :[

on this album they used a lot of tube amps, mainly a Bogner (they didn't reveal what model)

they probably used the JCM's, Pepper's Caliber .50+ and JTM45 and a Fender Twin

Those Titans are not very high gain, so they need a boost to sound really saturated... sorta like the jcm 800's, and the older Randall's. I think Down II is enough proof that they can sound pretty good if you know how to dial them in. Dimebag used them early on with Damageplan too.

I got my newest Guitar World mag. and it has Kirk and his setup in the back on the mag. and he uses Marshall JCM 800 2203x amps and he also uses a Maxon 808 overdrive that tightens up his sound and adds extra crunch.

this is interesting, he's dropped the nola and crowbar setup; Randall RG100ES with MT2 boosting the preamp. I have no idea why they switched also from the Randall Titan head which they abused back in 2002? That was a brutal amp with similar char. to the 100ES

So now he boosts a JCM800 with a Maxon 808? Likely on this vid too?

Kirk uses the Randall RG100ES heads with his band Crowbar, and uses the mt-2 to boost the guitars signal, basically the same purpose as the Maxon, but more aggressive.

With Down he has used everything from Randall's to Marshall's to Bogner's (which he recorded the majority of the new album with). He's used the Marshall 2203's for the last couple years with Down though. Last tour was the Randall Titans.
