  • Simple green is one of best things ever! Just don't use it on leather! I can pressure clean a house or concrete surface better then chlorine. It is also much safer. Thank you for the video.

  • I use that same grease for my Garand. It's worked great and a can like that costs about as much as a small tube of dedicated gun grease.

  • Frog Lube and a snake bore. nuff said

  • Great Vid Man please keep them up.

  • I belong to 3 fire/ems agencies, and all 3 use simple green to clean the vehicles, spray it on, let it sit for 5, and rinse, never had a problem. Keep up the great work!

  • What weight of Mobile 1 is recommended for handguns and rifles. i have a bottle of 10w30. Is that good enough?

  • @EnduringEagle I think it's just fine

  • I've used motor oil for years without an issue

  • Wow. I have to say I think that this was your best video yet. I love the practicality and truthfulness of this. I will be purchasing these things ASAP. I love no nonsense real world advice and this video was chock full of it. Thanks for this! You are one of my favorite youtube channels out there! Thank you Mr. Tactics!

  • Anyone that shoots blackpowder knows that one can use hot, soapy water to clean firearms. It works well at cleaning the carbon off of firearms. One just has to really wipe it dry and use gun oil, of course I have used Crisco and beeswax mixture on my blackpowder firearms.

  • I personally like to use Hoppes cleaner and (forgot the brand) High Heat/High Friction wheel bearing type grease on my Glock and AK. Works great, easy to use and the grease as you said lasts freaking ages! I also agree fully with the Mobile 1, though just bought any oil will work. Don't think the stuff works? I'm betting that there's a whole army of shooters in Africa that would be willing to disagree! lol

  • hey would these cheaper products be usable on a full steel and plastic paintball gun?

  • @gohamabamaharu I can't think of a good reason they wouldn't. My only concern would be leaving them to soak in the Simple Green solution for long periods of time. That could mar the finish and possibly cause long-term problems.

  • @gohamabamaharu The thing with paintball guns is that they contain rubber O-rings, which the simple green and motor oil will eat away.

Best thing to use is silicone oil (make sure there is no hexane in it). I've found a pretty large can at hardware stores for about 5-7 bucks.

  • i use simple green on my adult airguns because most gun solvents eat the rubber seals in airguns

  • Good old CLP work good for me.

  • After viewing this, I looked at WM, and the SuperTech brand of full synthetic oil was $4.99, and the next nearest was Mobil 1 and one other (forget which brand) were $6.57 (I believe, could have been more; it was in the $6-$7 range for sure).

  • A good lube that stay put and only needs a small bit to run a gun is a 40/60 mix of ATF fluid and STP Oil Addative use it in spots youd use grease and it work wonders in an AR and on pistol slides.

  • Great vid!! I'll have to try out the simple green as well as the Mobile 1. You've given me an interesting new project!!

  • Thank you for the helpful tips .

  • I hate simple green - I know it says non toxic but even diluted it irritates my lungs and makes me cough like crazy - I can't stand being around the stuff

  • @SergeiSimonov1945 my daughter has the same reaction every time ..

  • @SergeiSimonov1945 you are probably having an allergic reaction to it and so should rightfully steer completely clear of it.

  • Great prepping items thanks for the ideas and the info!

  • Good stuff Sir! -- Noting that I have been called crazy for using a little lithium grease!

  • Wow, this is really eye opening. I have never considered these products for gun cleaning or maintenance. So I can use these products on glocks and ak's are you positively absolutely sure?

  • @sevenpeaksandvalleys There is absolutely no doubt at all about the Mobil1 and lithium grease. The Simple Green can be debated, but as long as you use a diluted solution and don't soak aluminum parts in it for more than 5 minutes or so ... no probs. Just be sure that you rinse and dry completely.

  • as always, you are full of valuable information, thanks

  • ZT - On the subject of motor oil; I heard it seperates after 6 months or so and it needs to be shaken periodically if one plans to store it. Whats your thoughts?

  • @BitFox That's part of the reason to go synthetic. Most companies rate their synth oil to have a shelf life of something like 5-6 years. I have a sneakin' suspicion it's actually quite a bit longer.

  • @BitFox fyi, dino motor oil does not separate as though it were an oil vinegar mix. Shaking it will do no good because it breaks down on a molecular level over time. No amount of shaking will fix chemical breakdown. While this is bad for engines, i'm not sure what, if any, harm it will do to a gun since most of the chemicals that breakdown are there to protect under the extreme heat/pressures an engine has to withstand. Either way, just use synthetic if you're using it on your firearms.

  • NOTE ABOUT SIMPLE GREEN - Was goin to use it on my mosin, a drop of the solution damaged the finish of the woof stovk; probably mixed too strong, be careful!

  • @BitFox As noted in the video ... not really recommended for wood or painted surfaces!

  • Thanks for the Kit idea!

  • Good video. I enjoy your channel, you're one of the very few prepper channels that I still watch. You consistently put out good, useful information. It's very much appreciated. Thank you!

  • ZombieTactics, check out "Ed's Red" mix in a Google search. Gotta pay a little more for the raw ingredients, but it makes gallons of an excellent CLP.

Another option is just regular dish detergent and warm water, works great. Dry thoroughly, lubricate with any automobile oil. Personally, I prefer heavy weight stuff better (like gear oil) because it can be thinned out with gasoline or strong alcohol.

  • Good tips. I think people get caught up in the newest craze or whatever the gun rags are pushing these days. When it comes down to it, diligence and elbow grease are the best out there. Elbow grease is about 3 dollars a can at wally world.

  • What an idiot for saying that at the beginning. Tallow can be made from fat. Tallow can lubricate and clean your basic guns. Thanks for pointing this out. Good job.

  • @TheGrayman1234 I hope you mean the guy I was quoting/paraphrasing, lol.

  • @ZombieTactics LOL, yes sir. HE was the idiot. (sorry about that, thought that was clear)

Probably thinks if he can't still readily buy it at the local Walmart it will never exist again. Probably thinks bananas and tomatoes just spring into existence on the shelves at the grocery store. ROFL

  • simple green and hot water not to be used to clean cosmoline i mean you can but man what a pain in the butt

  • m-pro 7, tetra, otis and some clp

  • No Edd's red? Not as effective as other cleaners, but you can make lots for cheap. You also don't depend on watter.

  • Nice ideas, Thanks

  • Thanks for supporting your local WalMart. That really helps keep our paychecks nice and big. Also just great advice.

  • Nice practical video.

  • Shoelace+motoroil works in Afganistan AK . In 1800 trappers and cowboys made it through without any fancy stuff.

  • FROG LUBE IS THE BOMB! EVERYBODY SHOULD TRY IT OUT!

  • I've been using Shooters Choice gun grease. It costs about $8.00 for a very small tube. It sure looks like Marine bearing grease to me. I might try some when I run out. Great vid. J R

  • On my walther p22 that grease made a world Differance I can even shoot the cheapest ammo federal bulk no fail great video

  • Good tips. If I didn't already have a decades worth of hoppe's I bought from a hardware store going out of business, I'd be going to Walmart for the green stuff.

  • good cautionary note on diluting the Simple Green. I used it undiluted on a grill, and it bleached the baked on finish after a couple cleanings.

  • I've heard synthetic motor oil be mentioned elsewhere too - any idea why synthetic is preferred over standard motor oil?

  • @drzmanproject It tends to hold up better at high temperatures, from what I have been told.

  • Excellent post! Thanks for all of your helpful tips. Anthony.

  • Mpro has it's place but you NEED to give FROGLUBE a try!! On bang for the buck a can of carb cleaner and motor oil cant be beat.

  • @oafaloaf froglube rocks...i prefer brake clean to carb clean, but for all intents and purposes it's the same stuff...since i tried froglube however i have not had the need to degrease like i have had with regular oil

  • Clp,enough said!

  • I have been known to use carb cleaner and PB blaster...then of course there is the old..piss down the barrel for the AK/SKS; they seem to work better when I don't clean em. =)

  • One of the best cleaners that I know of for guns used with corrosive ammunition or black powder is plain old water. I've been known to take a garden hose to my AK's on occasion, followed by compressed air & then a good coat of oil. Works great.

I've been told that Afghans clean their AK's with diesel fuel, lube them with used motor oil & call it good. I can't say how well that would work, but if it's all you've got...

  • I was just about to post that Mobile 1 Synthetic makes a SUPERB lube for AR15's & similar weapon systems when you held up that quart of Mobile 1 Synthetic. So I guess you already knew about that little trick!

  • Great vid, can you do one on basic medical supplies???? I want to get some stock up and dont know where to start...

  • Ballistol happens to be my favorite "long-term" CLP. Cheap enough to stock up on and works well on any gun in any condition.

Great video topic though - we tend to concern ourselves with the minutia of maintenance, whereas a few simple products would probably give the same (or similar) performance.

  • Awesome tips!

  • Very good tip! I've seen Simple Green used at a Army National Guard armory in large half drums as they soaked M60 parts in it. Forgot about that until your video.

  • Love it! Great tips.

  • great vid. =]

  • good video

  • Excellent video...I really appreciate you taking the time.

  • SLiP2000 EWL line. 'Nuff said.

You don't absolutely NEED to keep your guns spotless, and no, they won't be "rusted beyond usefullness after a year" unless you live right off the ocean and purposefully neglect your gun -- even the cheap ones (DPMS: I'm lookin' at you).

There's also a lot of different aftermarket finishes that you can apply that are SOOOO much better than Type III anodizing.

  • motor oil expires. is this a problem? It gets gunky just sitting around from what I understand.

  • There you have more gun cleaning supplies than your likely to ever need in a survival situation. I'm willing to bet that most people don't even store enough ammo to really need that much.

Great video! I'm actually probably going to go buy a bucket, some simple green, couple bottles of motor oil, grease, and a bottle for the deluded simple green... And go store it away.

  • A friend of mine told me when he was in army they used coca-cola to clean there firearms and it worked good.

  • Do you use Simple Green to clean the bore?

  • @pranksterguy1 Yep ... just did so last night with my Glock22

  • Comment removed

  • Don't forget that in a SHTF situation one can always use beeswax, tallow, Crisco, etc to keep their guns lubed. After all, firearms were invented before the founding of refining petroleum products.

  • Thanks

  • Thanks, ZT! Love all the great vids for frugal prepping! Keep up the good work.

  • S&W bore cleaner is heavy duty stuff. I like that m-pro 7

  • Wheel Bearing Grease! I've been using the same tube for the last 5 years!

  • thats good stuff, because people get too caught up in their name brand products, and only swear buy them because they cost alot...

  • have you ever tried frog lube? I highly recommend it.

  • I was just wondering ZombieTactics, have you ever used that all natural stuff called FrogLube and if so, what is your opinion on it?

  • what are your thoughts on Frog Lube? there are people who apply it once and fire thousands of rounds through the year and clean it after a year or so. hype? or actually works?

  • @2ndTierShooter Answering first FrogLube question: I hear it's great stuff, but have not used it myself.

  • @ZombieTactics no excuse, i mentioned it before. months ago. give it a try please.

  • @zehnsechz froglube can also be bought in barrels and buckets and doesnt give me a headache. also, you dont have to clean with it out in the garage because of strong odors. it is a mild minty fresh scent. i would be willing to even mail you some.

  • @2ndTierShooter I have just started to use frog lube and I am very impressed with the product. Lubricates very well and I like how the paste applies on. Also does a pretty good job cleaning the bore.

  • @2ndTierShooter i just started using froglube...my AR was way easier to clean after the 1st thorough use...my pistol was even easier to clean...i'm not a proponent of "not cleaning" regardless of the lube chosen...

i've used many different lubes and so far froglube takes the cake...it doesn't leave a "wet" look or residue when you're done but allows for basically a wipedown style cleaning

  • Rusted after a year? Why would some one think that? Bacon grease would work in a pinch I'm sure.

  • Nice tip on the simple green, thanks.

  • Seventh!!

  • Nice. I use the same supertech stuff on my AR's. 5 bucks at your local china mart. I've not tried the Mpro stuff yet.

  • My personal favorite lube is mil tec have u tried that?

  • oooohhh...foosball!!!!

Take care of your weapon and it will give you years of pleasure!

  • @lostburro

We were stopped from using Simple Green and Castrol "Super Cleaner" on the ACFT I was involved in. This was non-military ACFT.

  • I can't imagine running out of ways to oil my gun. Even old motor oil can be used.

  • Second!!!!haha

  • First!
