But in todays day and age, when I ask a "gamer" what his favorite game is, I usually get "CALL OF DUTY HURRDURR" as a response. It sickens me.

Halo's popularity has in no way improved the battlefield series, if anything it has worsened it by encouraging simplified game play. More than enough people would play to support an online community with or without Halo. Halo was a fine game (played it and enjoyed it), but compared to other games even within the same genre it is nothing special except for its low barrier to entry (simple fps on a console).
