They broke off from the mormon church decades ago when the mormons outlawed polygamy and they want to distance themselves from the mormons just as badly as mormons want to distance themselves from polygamy. Also, there is no such thing as a "sect" of the mormon church. There is but one, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Everything that broke off of it is NOT a sect. They don't declare themselves to be and the church doesn't consider them to be, thus the reason they have their own new names for their churches and their own separate teachings which do NOT come from the book of mormon.
