My grandpa is Ray Coulter i dont know if you know him but he trains me and my big sister all the time and we show the horses in small shows up in Fresno. Im 12 and my big sister Desirae is 17 it is really fun

also the less space the cow moves (side to side) the better the score, as in if the horse can keep him within 5ft of startin, hes a rly good cutter

turnburnMomma, you can make cues. you can use your legs, just dont pick up the reins.

The horse and rider start out with a 70 pt score- and are judged on the 'cut' (herd work, how the horse separates out his calf) natural reactions of the horse in separating and holding a cow. You have 2 1/2 min to perform, and the highest score is 80, low is 60. Lots more too it, but thats the basic. Takes a SPECIAL horse, because NO cue's may come from the rider after the cut has been made- this will detract point. Specific bloodlines in QH's make the best cutters- need lots of 'cow'. :)
