Mammas and Pappas - California Dreaming

The Family Jam - Cease to Exist

The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations

  • AMAZING,DIO CANE

  • John Paul Jones confirmed that Cattini and Parker were on the session as well.

  • Yea, when did adverts get onto the video?

  • For the last time, it is NOT Jimmy Page on this song (ancient rumor that refuses to die)! Clem Cattini, the famous session drummer on this, confirmed that Alan Parker played guitar on this (Alan has said it himself). You cannot trust Page's memories, because he was literally on hundreds of 60s records. Let it end here. Great song!!

  • @percypage74

Actually there's a video here on youtube where Donovan says it is ... he also says Bonham was too, but of course Page and Bonham hadn't met, so Donovan probably doesn't really remember as he was probably too busy having a good time.

  • @BaronM WOW !!! really ?

  • Holy shit. I just... cannot. express.

I'm so high right now and this is so amazing. /head explodes

  • Alan Parker (Soft Machine) on guitar!

  • His voice reminds me alot Robert Plant!!!!!!

  • @jamalzi: Speaking of which, I believe John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page were studio musicians for the electric guitar and bass on this song. This was recorded in 1968, before Zeppelin.

  • im sure thats the man that shot me

  • @tizyte The last time I saw this face was July 4th, 1969.

  • isnt there an acoustic version of this too

  • I used to kick back smoking weed to this.

  • Zodiac.

  • Page did not play on this song. it was a rumor that he did. the actual lineup for this song is: Donovan on Acoustic Guitar, Tambura and vocals

    Alan Parker on Electric Guitar

John Paul Jones on Bass and Musical Director

    Clem Cattini on Drums

  • Zodiac.

  • love the Roly-poly...man.

  • my friends of the time....just roll a pin joint and dream.

  • I saw Donovan in concert and got a preview of the yet to be released cosmic wheels LP. He told how George Harrison wrote a verse for the song, which was not on the released version. He did include it in his performance,

When the truth gets buried deep

Beneath the thousand years of sleep

    Time demands a turn-around

And once again the truth is found

    Awakening the Hurdy Gurdy Man

Who comes singing songs of love.

Written for his guitar mentor Mac MacLeod and his band Hurdy Gurdy.

  • when I first heard this song, I ran out to buy the 45. Way cool./

  • Clem Cattini of the Tornados was the drummer. This song is about the Maharishi Yogi. who Donovan went to India to learn meditation from.

  • Clem Cattini of the Tornados was the drummer.

  • LOVE the sound of BOTH of guitars, the best Donovan song.

  • Great John Paul Jones composition with Jimmy Page playing that awesome fuzztone guitar. So psychedelic and refreshing. My favorite Donovan song.

  • @ultragoji1 It was Allen Parker a session player on this song. Not Jimmy Page.

  • @ultragoji1 nice info, are u sure this is page tho?

  • @tommieparch As far as I know... it's Page playing the guitar. I read about it in a few books about LZ and when I listen to the cable music channels they always mention that Page plays the guitar on this song. It's not the 1st time Page played guitar for some1 else. He also played lead guitar on The Who's "Can't Explain". It was also reported that Page played guitar on Donovan's "Sunshine Superman". He was, after all, a studio session player before he joined with The Yardbirds.
