From the point after Samantha puts the note on the staircase and after Darrin wakes up you see just the back of Samantha walking to the door and it's clear it's not Elizabeth but a stand in a wig. because the hair doesn't look real from the back.. my guess is Elizabeth busy changing into Serena's outfiit. by that point. who appears seconds later.
I love dick york, didn't know till recently that he worked through bewitched with a real painful spinal injury which he ended up colapsing on set and thats what made him quit acting!
I can't believe Sam would stick the note on the banister with a bulletin board pin.
For the longest time, a friend of mine thought Liz and "Pandora" were two separate people. He was literally shocked to find out it was Liz, and commented how much Serena looked younger than Sam.
Elizabeth Montgomery had once stated in "The Bewitched Book" by Herbie J. Pilato that this particular episode was one of her favorites, mainly because working with Isabel Sanford was a joy- I am very surprised that she wasn't in subsequent episodes-
From 0:09 to 0:16, that is NOT Elizabeth Montgomery going out the door - that is actually her stand in, Melodie Johnson- since this was a Serena episode, she was very useful when Liz was called to be Samantha and/or Serena- Melodie Johnson also got a chance to appear frontally, in the episode, "The Generation Zap, telecast in the sixth season on March 5, 1970-
I disliked this episode, because Samantha is taking the blame for something that Serena did - and even when everything got resolved, she never once apologized or tried to make amends!
@christheone8773 Your point is well taken, and bravo for catching this. But, don't forget, there were several episodes in which Sam used tht to her advantage by asking Serena for favors. She will then proceed to remind Serena that she owes her many favors and this will wipe the slate clean!
@dirths YES, that was very true, especially in the episode, "That Was No Chick, That Was My Wife" telecast on November 9, 1967 - ALSO, Serena's resemblance to Samantha (and vice versa) provided for a lot of sticky situations, especially if Serena and/or Endora wanted revenge against Darrin-
@vartatoosh yes thank you, Eliabeth is playing two parts she is also playing her cousin thats why I made the comment about her looking great in dark hair
@phwebbie : Yes...Elizabeth played an incredible role as Sam's look-alike cousin- This is by far one of my favorite espisodes-I really like the way they vamped up Serena's look at the beginning of this season-not too much make up-just enough to set the tone for her seductive allure- she was hella sexi as Serena-I liked the sexi Serena music that plays when she visits..lol
@smittyk68 The whole idea for Serena came about in the show's first season, when Samantha was parading around in public in a dark wig and everyone thought that Darrin was cheating on Samantha - Serena didn't make her official debut until the second season, in the episode, "And Then There Were Three", telecast on January 13, 1966, the episode where Tabitha was born also-
i love this episode, it was the first bewitched episode i'd ever seen and 13 yrs later i love it the same way i loved it then. bewitched is one of the best shows EVER!!
Were Dick Sargeant and The guy who played Larry tate lovers? They did a whole 2 hour documentary on Bewitched and they curiously omitted ONE WORD about the guy who played Larry tate..as if he didnt exist and he was there from the first episode to the last?
Trivia: In the first scene when Sam walks out of the kitchen and pins the note on the staircase, that is EM, then it cuts to Darrin getting out of bed, and when it pans back to the entry hall, that's not EM going out the door, it's her stand in Melody Thomas.
The first scene alone is gold from todays perspective..the music, the location, the genuine 60's look of the house. It's like time travelling.Today most comedy series have no musical dramatical effects, only annoying music with no connection to what is happening on the screen which is too loud so you can't hear the actors properly, and a laugh track 5 times as loud as this one. If laugh tracks were as unobtrusive as this one I wouldn't be so annoyed to the point where I can't watch the show anymore.
@gojoe283 I love seeing all those great Chevy's. It's hard to believe they're now 42 years old when back then they were brand new. The episode I like the best for showing those cars is the UNICEF episode. Sam's backing into a parking space driving a green '69 Camaro RS. The other parked cars were a '69 Chevelle SS (with a convertible top), Corvette, 4-dr Caprice, and a white/brown Camaro SS.
@02chevyguy I have a '69 Corvair Monza sport coupe, daily driver, rust free 62K original miles...one of the last ones made. Great car, it's the only car I haven't gotten bored with over the years!
Okay, very nice to find this episode that I've never seen before - we weren't allowed to watch this as kids - BUT, I have a grave concern. Didn't the note that Samantha left indicate the she AND Tabitha went to the store? Samantha comes back to get her shopping list - then mayhem occurs. Where's Tabitha? Is she still in the car waiting for her mother to come back? Then Darren goes golfing...WHO's watching Tabitha? Is she STILL out in the car by herself?! Is she okay? Has anyone checked?
Is that Weezy?!! LOL! I used to watch this show religiously when I was a kid. I don't remember this episode. I remember when she was sent back to Olde England, and to the Salem Witch Trials, and there was another one with an antique dust pan or something, but this one, I really don't recall...thanks.
You can tell at the beginning that it was Melody Liz's stand-in because it was a much brighter blond. Liz had more highlights and her hair had more volume. They usually had Melody play Serena a lot but usually only when u couldn't see the face except a few times you could see the face. Melody was barely 20 when she started on bewitched.
@thecarolinabull01 TOTALLY AGREE. LIZ WAS A PROPER WOMAN IN EVERY WAY, CLASSY, BEAUTIFUL AND HAD A PROPER FIGURE NOT A SKINNY LIKE TODAY'S STARS, SHE WAS LOVELY AND MY FAVOURITE ACTRESS.
@thecarolinabull01 Oh Please, look at the time we are talking. Back in the time they didnt have anything besides their own beauty and talent. Look at Beyonce. serious, I don't know what she has been doing but she looks like white latin woman from south america

Elizabeth Montgomery had stated once that this episode was one of her favorites, mainly because of working with Isabel Sanford in the "mammy" role-

at 0:09, when Samantha is going out the door, that is NOT Elizabeth Montgomery, but its her double, Melodie Johnson.

how do you know?

I hated this episode and the one similar to it, entitled "How Not To Lose Your Head To King Henry VIII" from Season 8 - they always liked to pick on poor sweet Samantha!!!
