You should look into the album The Dreams We Have As Children. It's tracks from Noel's performance at Royal Albert Hall in 2007. He does a similar version of Slide Away, and so many other great songs. It's only available for sale on iTunes, or if you look on eBay you might be able to buy the free CD version a British newspaper gave away.

Imo, I think those kind of distorted notes Gem plays just give the song a bit more of a rugged sound...and it sounds brilliant. This has always been one of my favorite Oasis songs....and it's 1000000000000x better with Noel singing.
