@spruss929 Being a nerd who loves to throw knowledge at people, may I give you a quick low-down on the chronology of Rome? Yes? Excellent.
Rome was initially ruled by kings, who were tyrannical as all kings were in that era, and so they were thrown out. After that came the Republic in which this is set. Near the end of this era the Roman army as we know it was established. Then Caesar took power, and was followed by Augustus who was the first of the Emperors, who ruled for about 450 years.
@ASaxonAtHeart thank you the only thing is why would they make this (the name) revolution if Cesar was the reveloutionary ik this guy was a reveloutionary but he didn't even finish his Cesar deserves that episode
@spruss929 Whilst Caesar did launch a revolution of sorts, I think it is here is to point out how the "working class" was rising up against the aristocracy. Usually when we think of revolutions we think of things like the 18th C French one and 20th C Socialist ones, so the phrase is associated with poor vs rich, weak vs powerful etc. With Caesar it was less rising up against oppressors and more taking advantage of a situation to gain immense political power. It was a very different circumstance
Barbarian was then simply a term for a foreigner who didn't speak Greek. Educated Romans may looked down on these people, but they also admired strongly, for example, the Germanic tribes because of their hardiness and vitality that reminded them of their own ancestors. That duality is always lost in translation today.
@lewisgunner1 i don't think they called the greeks barbarians cause they imported a lot from the greeks, including this whole calling everyone else barbarians, the greeks called people like the persians and even the macedonians, who were just northern greeks, barbarians. pretty much if u weren't one of them u were a barbarian, (greeks called romans "western barbarians")
Macedonians are the greeks its because of them greek culutured spread throughtout the world Persians are known today as Middle eastern or Muslims.Romans are Helenestic so they are not barbarians.Spaniards are also helenestic they use the short sword like the Romans, and Greeks they are Helenestic.I read online that Spain was Greek colony well mostly like near the coast they newmintes were eh like kinda barbarians its like when the Greeks met the Etruscans the Etruscans were Greeks
@lewisgunner1 today we know that none of these peoples were barbarians but back then most cultures had an "our culture is the best " attitude, like there is a reason the chinese called themselves the "middle kingdom". And yes the greeks built many colonies around the mediterrean
@lewisgunner1 Well if you are 13, I apologize. To be your age and to at least have an interest history is excellent. However, keep up the good work and check for facts. Read different books on history and not just rely on one source. To distort history is a great lost for our future. I will remove my comment.
thanks I been interested in History since I was a little boy idk why but it just fascinated me so many different cultures in the world so many different ways of life so many civilizations to learn from so many empires so many wars I been most fascinated by warfare idk why yet but I just am especially the Romans the Greeks Medieval and modern combat I know stuff that I shouldn't know until next year like world war two
@lewisgunner1 You are a young wise man with an old soul. To be young eager about learning is very fascinating about you. I admire you for that and I'm happy for you because you will never grow bored in life with a hungry mind.
@lewisgunner1 I am of the: Samnites, Oscans, Marsi, and Latin tribes. I'm of Italian stock of Campania. My family settled in Colorado, state of the mountains, U.S.A. You should look at my profile you will see a lot of love for my Italian heritage. Where are you from? England ?
I am from the united states and I am descented from spanish Italian heritage my parents are mexican my dad seems to be a pure Spanish but my mother is mixed between spanish and Italian because of my grandpa
@lewisgunner1 Yes, many Italians migrated to Mexico from Venice, Italy. They kept their Italian language and culture while living in Mexico from what I understand.
@lewisgunner1 You should have an Aztec pyramid on your flag instead. There is only one Italy. Have to go now. You seem like a good kid. Keep up the good work.
@FeelingBeautiful jajajaaja you are funny I dont think I have aztec in my blood I believe I am Descented from Italians and Spanish as my family tells me all the time which I do believe in since my last name is Italian
@lewisgunner1 there was no such thing as spainish there where the iberians and celtaberians, the celtaberians where a celtic people from gaul who came to spain in the sixth century bc
Why are all the plebs brown. The Romans were not brown. The BBC series portray the Roman commoners as indian looking. This is completely inaccurate. And even if it was, I dont want to see brown Romans.
