  • Strong video. It's funny, but when I had a CD-i and was briefly looking for a controller to use for it, I went straight for control pads. I had no idea that the mice were compatible with all of the titles on the platform. Also, the background music from Dimo's Quest is kind of unintentionally amusing. It makes your video feel like a tutorial from PBS in the mid 80s.

  • @mstrsmth Haha! Yeah, after using the Dimo's Quest music, I am thinking of using generic background music for some of my other future CD-i videos instead.. ;D

  • I really like the look of the mouse. Very early 90s hi-tech. Great review, Austin.

I think it's time for the mouse to make a return to mainstream gaming.

  • @wip3outguy7 I agree, man. Asides from making things an "even" playing field in the online console arena these days, I can't think of any reason why these devices shouldn't be available and taken advantage of more often on the major home platforms today. At least give us the damn option, anyway!

  • @austinmackert Yeah, I'm sure the reason we haven't seen WoW or the new Starcraft come to a console is because of lack of kb&m support (on one of the systems at least). Maybe that will change with Counterstrike GO. Valve is putting in KB&M support and cross platform play for the PS3 version at least.

  • @wolfblitzer57 Never tried the Pippin myself as it's pretty difficult to come by (and has very few games, period)..

I'd bet Lemmings would control great on a touchscreen device, especially one that is precise like the DS. Likewise with old point 'n click adventures like the Sierra titles.

  • @wolfblitzer57 Thanks for the, erm, constructive feedback..

  • Looking at the CDI software list a mouse seems like a no brainer purchase since analog pointers are often finicky in comparison. Lol HalfBlindGamer doesn't have a CDI mouse, of all the people in the entire world I thought he must have several. Great review. :D

  • Fantastic video, dude. This is the kind of content the Internet needs more of.

  • @HiroGaems Thanks dude! :)

  • Another fantastic review / overview! I have yet to own, or even play a CD-I, but I will most definitely be investing in a mouse when I eventually purchase the system.

Keep up the great work Austin; your videos are always great.

  • @equinoxfan82 If you do purchase a system and a mouse, let me know what you think of it. :)

  • @austinmackert

Okay, sure. I’ll do that :)

  • Awesome review. You've earned a new subscriber.

  • @sefaen Thanks! :)

  • Hey, excellent videos like this make me want to get a CD-i, the mouse, and these games. I try to control my impulses to collect more hardware, and this video isn't helping! Please stop making awesome videos. Thanks. :)

  • @niceandgames Well, the mouse IS fairly cheap, soooooo.... ;D

  • Cool video, I'd get a mouse but I'm still looking for a power supply for my CD-i 450...

  • @TapGage Ah, bummer.. I haven't seen one of those pop up in the last 8 months or so that I've been looking for CD-i stuff. :(

  • Just an awesome video, love stuff like this. Nice to hear Tyrian and Raptor get a mention, since that's exactly what two games came to mind when seeing that! A mouse is really a great way to control certain shmups.

  • @phreakindee Ah, yes, Tyrian, Raptor, Stargunner.. I'm sure there's more, but I played them strictly with the mouse on the PC, and they felt good, too. So much so that it actually feels awkward using a game pad with them now! :)

  • Excellent video and fascinating how well that Mouse worked for 90% of the games you showcased. If Burn Cycle was anything like the DOS version, you can probably chalk that one up there as well.

  • @pocketmego How different is the DOS version of Burn:Cycle from the CD-i one? I actually just received the CD-i version in the mail last week and look forward to playing it.

  • @austinmackert

The video quality in the DOS version is utter crap. The CDI one is going to look 10 times better as it was produced originally for the system. As for the gameplay, keep that mouse handy, because the DOS version was a total click fest, it used the mouse for everything. Very simple interface.

  • Awesome look at a great piece of CD-i equipment, really well made video man!

I'm almost ashamed to say, but I don't have a CD-i mouse myself lol. Been my intend to pick on up for a long time now, but never came down to it. This video really makes me want to go for it though.

  • @HalfBlindGamer Thanks, Seb! You of all people especially should have one of these, haha! It might even make Zelda's Adventure play better! ..... OK, maybe not. Still though, it's a great little device for the CD-i. :)

  • Cool, I have a mouse for 3DO so I need to get one for my CDi.

  • @MaximumRD It's relatively cheap, so go for it! :)

  • This may be one of the best videos I have seen in terms of production and final product. Amazing job, very informative and very integrating.

  • @DellamorteDellamore0 I appreciate the kind words, man! I put a lot of work into this one, so I hope it shows. :)

  • Terrific video!! Great history lesson on the CD-i and thanks for including so many games (most I had never heard of). While I don't think I'll ever buy one... it's nice to see there are some genuine games on the platform. As for the mouse, I wish more console games in the 90's utilized the peripheral as it certainly has it's place. Great editing, some of the stuff in the beginning definitely inspired me.

  • @implantgames Thanks, Kris. Glad you enjoyed it! :)

  • That was interesting! Great one

  • @Legion2000 Thanks for watching, Karl. Hope all is well with you man! :)
