i remember my mom and dad used to play this in the car on the way to my soccer practice. and it just brings back so many memories. ahh when i was 5, life was good. :)
one of the greatest storytelling songs of all time. Up there with Bob Dylan, Bruice. and as for 90s story telling songs, up there with "fast car", and "the freshmen"

@bhartman36 Yes, but if I were born in the 1980s, I'd be a teenager in the 1990s. I'm a teenager now, and I'm afraid it's going to be the only point of my life where I'm into pop music.
Ahhh, my favorite band. So good in fact that at times of my life when I feel depressed, the music, lyrics and use of piano and guitar, make me slow down, breathe, and understand my feelings, something i have trouble doin bein a man.. But this music lets down my barrier, and consumes my negativity, into positive believing.
I'm 16 and this is my favorite album of all time> Second favorite song, only after Mr. Jones. This is real music. After te 90s everything went to shit.
This VERY song helped me wake up and escape OUT of the "church" of Scientology.(much more was a part of the final wake up, but this one song helped me greatly. I had to have listened to it at least 1,000 times).
Thank you, Counting Crows---forever, I thank you! :)
@ToryMagoo44 i like how you put church in quotes. Dude, scientology is the definition of a church.. It is a body of ridiculous lies meant to control you and take your money, just like all the others
These boys frigging rule my fav band by far but as the albums go on they get slightly worse. Sorry but a true fact & you know it. Live across a wire is my favourite though especially round here, anna begins & walkaways.
I totally agree. Loved these guys for a really long time..... Right up until they released the Rita McNeil re-make. Took a long time before I started listening to them again and still only listen to the older albums anyway. Same story as bands like STP, Nirvana, PEARL JAM, and countless others from that era
I've heard so many variations of this song and every single time he puts so much emotion into it! So much passion that it just overwhelms you you with bliss.
The 5 peps who hit the thumbs down must of been in the wrong frame of mind when they listened to this track, If they get stoned its way better. seriously no shit
his voice is amazing, the tones in his voice are capable of so much emotion, the lyrics are a byproduct, they tell a story, and the if the music werent so good it would go otherwise unnoticed.
@fingal42 That just goes to show you how time has no effect on good music. Your 45 and the guy two posts down is 14. These were some of the best of my life. CC's rock!!!!!!!
@RichBDS17 You are right Rich... Time really *doesn't* affect good music. I love the part where he sings, 'I have trouble acting normal'. I suppose we all do, if we are the kind of people who understand this song. I will never be 'normal', and I will never be entirely abnormal either. There just isn't enough of this stuff around at the moment... I wonder why, ALL the time!
I love love love this song!! :) me and my flatmate have done an acoustic harmony cover it, check it out on our myspace if you like... we're called new aura... myspace /new aura. :) p.s don't mean to spam!! sorry!
@greg643 yea man the early 90's was a great time for music... oasis, nirvana, radiohead, pearl jam, blind melon. red hot chili peppers, stone temple pilots... i can go on and on
I think this might actually my favourite song of all time. It's so heartbreakingly beautiful..? I don't know what words to use to describe it, really.
