I had 'Tales from the North' but a house fire put paid to that... this is the first time in six years I've heard any Gary and Vera at all! Thank you so much!
What a brilliant song!! and a treat to come across it after 35 years!!
I first heard it all those years go on an album Called "A Taste of Hotpot" which belonged to my sister, the album is lost & we couldn't remember who sang it or wrote it - lots of welcome information on here tho!!!
Gary and Vera are excellent,we went to a small folk club in Wrexham, in North Wales on the 7th May 2009. They were no different than when we last saw them nearly 25 years ago. Our children were reared on their songs, and Don't get married girls was a favourite of our daughters, who is now nearlt 31.They must be seen live.visit their website, just type in GaryAnd Vera Aspey
Thanks for posting this MetryRoad, I have sung this song for years, but lost my copy of the recording many years ago - LOVE Gary& Vera. Such good live performers, I know Terry Wogan 'plugged' or promoted this particular song for 2 weeks on his original breakfast show over 20 years ago. ( I think) Been searching online for years for it - would love to know where to get a copy (vinyl/cd/mp3) for it.
Hi I agree with finette except I never got the chance to see Gary and Vera live but they are absolutely fab! Trying to find "Hunting o'er th Hare" as done by them any help please. A Lancashire Lass (nearly living 20 yrs on the Isle of Wight!) p.s. Always sing this song or parts of it whenever I see a bridal car ! LOL (I DO try not to be cynical!:D) Thanks Gary and Vera for your company (on vinyl and cassette) x AND YES PLEASE MORE ON YOU TUBE WOULD BE FANTASTIC!!!
Gary and Vera are fantastic live and can be both funny and serious. I am lucky to have a signed vinyl copy from the 70s! I would so love to get more of their work especially as I'm like you no longer live in Lancashire. So anyone can you get more on You Tube?
I love Gary and Vera Aspey and in the past saw them live many times. They do these "funny" songs as well as the more traditional songs. It would be great if you could put more of their work on You Tube.
do you have more songs by gary and vera to upload.

Someone should really mention Leon Rosselson here. Who, amongst lots of other fine family songs, wrote this beautiful one.
