  • women from senegal are very pretty.

  • I had a much loved tape which I never knew the title of...This sounds like it, but I had it in about 1987/88 and the only album I have found by Baab with this track is 'Mi Yeewnii' and that says it was printed in 2001! I'm confused because my tape sounded exactly like this, his voice, the backing vocals and the unmistakable kora....some tracks were so beautiful they bought tears to the eyes even though I haven't got a clue as to the lyrics...Can anyone help me identify, please?

  • @discoverydavid Identify what exactly? I speak a small bit of Pulaar, which is what a lot of his stuff is.

  • fanta means "friend".

had his album, lost it :( :(

  • Is that the purpose for the name of the soda?

  • @maliekjcksn is this a joke? Fanta is the name of a woman, more precisely Fanta is the name of a Fulani woman. If you understand Fula language, in this song, he's expressing love for the woman Fanta.

  • @schootzmootz Fanta does not mean friend. Fanta is a name a common Fulani female name. He is singing his love for the woman Fanta. The way to say "friend" in Fulani language is "gido"

  • much better than rap, we should hear this more often

  • 3 beautiful women, excellent music and Baaba maal, what a video. Thanks for this.

  • Thanks for posting this! this is my favorite song by Baaba Maal. i was wondering if anyone could help me. I have this album and I really love it. I have other albums by him, but they're not as good-too much instrumentation. With a voice like this, instrumentation is a distraction. I was wondering if anyone could point me to an album that is mostly acoustic. Ideally it would just be him with minimal accompaniment.

  • Thanks for posting! I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have the album that this song is from and I love it. I have bought other albums by him that I have liked, but not as much- to much production (keyboards etc). I think with a voice like this, excessive instrumentation is just a distraction. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of other albums that are mostly acoustic. Ideally, i'd find an album that is mostly him, with minimal accompaniment.

  • MariBethy...i think he is just praise-singing a woman name Fanta 'cos he said 'Good Afternoon Fanta'.. in the beginning of the song..we have lots of Foulani women with that name...he also mentions another common Fulani name Penda i guess... maybe somebody could assist more 'cos Gambian and Senegalese Fulani dialects differ a little..thanx

  • He does mention Penda which is another Fulani name, and Jamma Jengii which means it's evening in Puular.
