Nice work man. I was a M1 fan in 80´s. Actually I play with a M1 VST version and I love it so much. I use a 88 weighted keys midi keyboard and is the best combo I think.

The "Universe" patch was spectacular back then in 1988 without a doubt! And I still think it is a good sound. But I don't like that the delay fades to one side instead of keeping in the center position. This is one of the two negative sides of this patch. The other one is: it has been totally overused throughout 1988-1995. But 4 out of 5 is still a good rating!

Great demo of the presets.

I very much disagree on your ratings however of which patches are the best.

Some of the standouts to me were the sax, choir (patch 23), 12 string guitar, symphonic patches, and dozens of others. I was not a fan of the electric pianos. Much better off with a Yamaha if your gonna buy an M1 to use for that or pianos in general.

I've searched for years to find a single keyboard I found more useful, and it hasn't happened yet. I bought a MOTIF ES, but use it far less.

Yes, of course! You can also use the preload data that the official KORG websites supply in their support section. It is 100% identical to the card data. You just have to use a fitting program like "Midi-OX" to use it. Then you are able to feed your M1 (M1R, M1 EX, M1R EX) with the common SysEX data files through MIDI.

Yes! At least the factory presets are available for free at the official KORG websites and with Midi-OX you can send the data to your M1. I don't know of an official place where you can legally download all the data from the other memory cards. The cards that I have demonstrated so far I bought used at eBay and other places. As a precaution I made data bumps of them, but for my personal uses only. I won't give these data files out, because I don't think it's too legal...

@wwwPepeMusicDE well i could ask korg if its legal to trade sound backups since the model is discontinued, thanks you for your response anyways even if u dont end up sending me them, im just looking at buying one used and i dont wanna be stuck when the battery dies, i dont have any midi cables and im not too smart when it comes to hooking these things up to make them work, the guy wants about 400$ im trying to talk him down lol

Gibt es eigentlich außer den 4 MB zusätzlichen Speicher, 90 zusätzlichen Wellenformen und den unterschiedlichen Presets noch weitere Unterschiede zwischen M1 und M1 Ex?

Sind die M1 Presets eigentlich auch auf dem M1 Ex vollständig vorhanden?

Und auf den zusätzlichen 4 MB sind ein ausgewählte Sounds von den Soundkarten vorhanden?

Außer den ganzen Wellenformen besteht da kein einziger Unterschied, aber die Wellenformen sind streckenweise enorm gut und werten alles auf. Da sind Sounds dabei, die findet man auf keiner der 16 Karten, so z.B. eine Fender Rhodes E-Piano Nachbildung.

Man kann die Presets des M1 auch auf dem M1 EX spielen, vorausgesetzt, man lädt die Programme ein. Die Werksdaten sind bei den alten Geräten nicht permanent auf Chips programmiert.

Zur dritten Frage: ja, genau! Und viele neue!

Nope! Tatsächlich sind die MSC-Karten (also die mit den PCM-Wellenformen) auch universell für die T-Serie und die Wavestation-Modelle nutzbar (eventuell auch für den Korg 01/W, bin aber nicht sicher).

Korrekt, die Soundkarten lassen sich gleichermaßen problemlos benutzen.

Die M1 EX-Presets greifen auch viele der neuen Wellenformen zurück. Das wäre ja sonst etwas unspektakulär, wenn nicht! Tatsächlich sind nur zwei oder drei der EX-Presets auch mit einem normalen M1 spielbar. Fast alle Programme basieren auf den neuen Wellenformen und ein normaler M1 würde dann statt der Wellenform 123 die Nummer 023 (usw.) benutzen und das klingt meistens nicht gut.

Ich habe gelesen, dass bestimmte Sounds nur auf dem Ex gespielt werden können.

Ich kann den M1 EX wärmstens empfehlen! Da sind noch mal BEDEUTEND bessere Drumsamples dabei (wenn man sowas braucht) und 90 weitere Wellenformen aller Art. Viele Samples sind den ersten 7 PCM-Karten (MSC-01 bis -07) entnommen worden, insofern muss man diese Karten nicht unbedingt haben. Da ich jedoch zur Gruppe der begeisterten Klangschrauber gehöre, experimentiere ich auch mit sämtlichen Sounds der Karten herum (auch mit den unspektakuläreren).

Beide M1-Modelle (normal und EX) gibt es auch in der Rackversion als M1R, bzw. M1R EX.

Ich bin kein Freund von Racksynthesizern. Ich liebe es, die entsprechende Tastatur und die Regler des Originals vor mir zu haben. Was ich von Softwaresynths halte, kann man sich jetzt wohl denken. ;o)

Der M1 in der Tastaturvariante hat eine sehr expressiv spielbare, gute Tastatur mit Aftertouch. Zudem ist da noch der Joystick. Ich würde zur Tastenversion raten!

I was one of the first people in America to purchase an M1 on the day it was released at Thoroughbred Music. At the time, the sounds were revolutionary and, depending on the context of the song, many of the presets still hold up to this day, in my opinion. Korg was hungry; they had stiff competition from Roland & Yamaha. I wish all of today's keyboard manufacturers had that same hunger because, by all rights, we should be much farther along than we are. Again, just my opinion.

@AnalogX1 It's a good opinion. And I agree fully. They keep re-releasing the same recycled shit. Over and over every few years. Making their own products obsolete. Steadily increasing prices. Manufacturers need to get hungry again. And I don't mean McDonalds!
