The reason the Feds don't want gold and silver backing is because it would prevent them from printing money that does not have the same amount of gold or silver value behind it. Do we have 14 trillion dollars worth of gold and or silver? If we have that much gold and silver we should pay the Federal Reserve Banks what is owed,Then show them where the door is and don't let the door hit them in their arse's on the way out. If you want sound money , then provide the multi-trillions of dollars to acquire enough gold and silver to replace the multi-trillions in all the monetary bases, M1, M2, MZM, etc. otherwise you'll totally destroy the economy with a massive destruction of wealth and capital.
There are at least $8T in bank deposits in the US and that is just a fraction of the M1 monetary base.
If you want sound money, you'll probably have to come up with at least $25T to pay for it.
you wouldn't need to come up with 25t worth of gold or silver or other precious metals to replace it, the value of those metals would come up to a level to make them suitable for purchasing the amount of goods and services currently available in this society, harder money has more value
