  • @MrAvatar75 In Spain they don't have basses? O.o only Sopranos, Altos, and Tenors? That's strange... And I have to disagree with you on the difficulty level of this song. You may call this "difficult", but I have to say that "Twa Tanbou" and "Koudjay" by Sydney Guillaume are both VERY rhythmically hard songs (They are AMAZING! You should check them out!).

  • Their vowels are really spread. That is something that needs to be worked on. You, as the director, should tell them to focus on a more European sound.

  • @gabrielwalker94 For a spiritual I dont want that "European sound"....shows how much you know about spirituals.....

  • @tenoroctaves I'm actually very fond with spirituals. My high school choir has sung Elijah Rock and The Battle of Jericho by Moses Hogan. Despite the fact, that it's a spiritual shouldn't change the fact that basic choral techniques shouldn't be thrown out of the window. Barbara Hendricks, Jessye Norman, etc. sing spirituals all the time and they sound nothing like these kids.

  • well, I am proud of the job you did with your students, and I hope that you are still teaching. wow! You have me smiling wide and crying at the same time. Praise God!

    Momma-G

  • I would just like to say how proud I am to finally come across black people singing spirituals. Although I'm very proud to see non African American people sing the spirituals and embrace our culture, I see less of us embracing the history that made us so strong. Kudos to you for keeping our history alive!!

  • good!

  • In Spain we don´t have basses! It´s amazing and your soloist are amazing, too! The song is difficult and you did a great job! Congratulations!

  • like it a lot really you did a good job.

but maybe the beginning was a little bit to fast

  • they're gonna sing it the express way...

  • I'm with you on the mic thing but they still have more of that oomf that is required to do Moses Hogan arrangements. How many basses were singing? I know that a lot of Bass II's don't really exist in high school age. When I had did this in HS, it was me and one other guy that could sing those low notes that Moses would put in his arrangements.

I like their sound Keep up the good work with them. :D

  • @Geronimo1913 lol my highschool has more bass than tenors outnumbered 2:1

the tempo is a little to fast though...

  • @LizImaryIo Geez. What's in the water? LOL That's a lot of bass. Love it! I've always found that there are a lot of Tenor II's and Baritones for high school age kids. Voices are still changing.

  • @Geronimo1913 oh you know the usual :) blame it on global warming but out of the 20 in our class we have 4 tenors, 4 altos, 4sopranos,and eight basses, hehe must be a CA thing..

  • @LizImaryIo LOL Possibly.

  • Great to hear negroes singing this, great voices! It was a bit too fast for my liking, otherwise...fabulous.

  • @walkindalight Ummm...I'm trying to figure out if you are trying funny or ignorant....hmm I wonder which...?

  • Great job... but the soloists noticeably sped up the tempo

  • thats was good. you should check out my choir. The Baltimore City College Choir...

  • Nice! the tempo wasnt centered..

  • I love the enthusiasim in this piece! This gave me chills. We're singing this in the chorus at my school, and it isn't anywhere near this powerful. A wonderful job!

  • too sloppy!

  • its ok,but the girl have a spread tone and its noticeable

  • well for one...at the time i was student teaching and only had them for a semester. two...you have to consider SEVERAL factors before you go judging.....that may be true but you have to consider the background of the students

  • @tenoroctaves haha <3 i LOVED it, my All-County Choir did this song and it was no better. im tired of going through people comments saying mean things about this piece, i love it, and they dont know anything about music <3 :) keep up the great work.!

  • I love this song like all the other Moses Hogan arrangements but I can't seem to understand why the two boys are loud i dont think they should have had a mic bc it took away from the choir bc you could hardly hear them but overall a good performance. I cant wait till i become a choral director..

  • I loved it. I love moses hogan selections. I cannot wait to be a high school director so i can teach great singers like these. Kudos to the director

  • Not bad at all! Tenors seem to overpower a little TOO much though. I know they have the melody, but they seem to drown out the rest of the choir too much. Maybe it was a microphone thing, I dunno... But this was an excellent rendition nonetheless! 5/5

  • nice!!!

  • Was it really necessary to have mics though?

  • no they werent. I was a student teacher, and the CHorus teacher said they needed mics. I agree with you sir.

  • Are we talkin Hillside, NJ?

  • no Hillside in Durham,NC

  • great job

I liked the speed of it

  • pretty good..ending a little rough could of been better but they know that

  • oh so youre an expert now?

  • it was good but i really wanted to hear the choir more but the to guys were good

  • This is so inspirational!

  • our choir has the same problem...

sounds fantastic but we get so excited that we speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed through it

    really enjoyed it though

  • This was really good to see. I'm 22 years old and you don't see HS students, especially black HS students singing these songs anymore. Well done!!!

  • well Heritage High School in Newport News, Va does it all the time.

  • that sounded gud

  • I love dis song and it was so tight. You really did a good directing Mr.Pierce and im so glad dat Ms.Nunn choose u to be our chrous teacher u and her has really taught me alot and thanks again.

    God bless

  • This is pretty good, it just made me feel like it was a little rushed..

  • well thats the speed i wanted to take it but i will say that they did begin to speed up. thanks for the compliment though!

  • Your choir is really good! I here rushing but it was still really good. When I was in high schoo and when we would sing this we had rushing problems as well. But I really enjoyed that, now I miss high school choir so much. LOL

  • yeah thas something that i tell them all the time! lol.

  • I really really liked your rendition.

  • thanks glad you liked it.

  • The melisma was great...try to back off then bulid to the highest point of the mooooovin!!

Tenors solos were some what rushing!! that solo is to good to rush!!! Other than that i give you 4 out of 5

  • thanks i made the same critique after viewing the performance. and awe only had 3 tenors...i appreaciate your comments.
