When describing if the SLS was as groundbreaking today as the SL was back then, it was said nothing COULD be.

I beg to differ. The Bugatti Veyron (albeit extremely rare) could be as much a jump as that.

@scarslasher So you think a veyron in stock trim will lap lemans in a similar time to an LMP car? Or double the top speed of nearly all the normal cars (remember most are limited to 155 these days)? A veyron brings no new tech or design to the world - it's just two rs4 engines glued together (well kind of) in a big, fat slug body. It's great as a GT car and the top speed is impressive (even though it was then bettered by a car with a V8 from the 50's) but it's not moved tha game on one jot.

The car may be compared with Porsches and Ferraris, but I think in the end it's its own thing. When you want one, you just gotta have it for what it is, a gullwing supercar. Still, I didn't know 0-60 in 8.8 was considered good back in the 50s....

I've loved the 300SL Gullwing since I was very young. I've always loved the curve-appeal, knock-off wheel locks and naturally, the unique gullwing doors. I think Mercedes have done a spectacular job capturing the essence of the 300SL Gullwing.

Its a shame that Daimler and Chrysler were partners when creating this car. I don't consider this new SLS to be a true Mercedes Benz, but a glorified Dodge Viper. The 300SL is still so much more beautiful to look at.

That is a gorgeous specimen of the 300SL. I've seen several SLS AMGs on the road already by have never seen a 300SL in person.

My favourite car along with the Miura.
