Well so far it looks like the ISL engine is the only option for transit buses until some other engine manufactorer could make new diesel engines by the end on this year or maybe sometime in 2012
@8v71buses True. I have noticed in recent months that several of the 24XX buses have been repowered with Allison transmissions. I think eventually all of the 24XX buses will have them.
@8v71buses: The oldest buses, the 9XX series (1999) & 2 of the remaining 2000 series Gilligs have Cummins ISL engines, but I have no clue what transmission. The 2001 through 2004 series buses have Cummins ISL engines & Voith transmissions. However, some of the 2004 series buses were recently repowered with Allison transmissions. The Gilligs of 2005 and onward (and the 3 hybrid buses) have Cummins ISL engines & Allison transmissions.
Yeap that sounds similar to what MARTA did to the system here in Atlanta. In the 90's MARTA had GMC New Looks, Grumman Flxibles, Flxible Metros, Neoplan N416As, Neoplan AN460As , New Flyer D35HFs, D40HFs, and the D40LFs from 1994. All of them have been replaced with New Flyer C30LFs, D35LFs, more D40LFs, C40LFs, Orion VII CNGs, and Diesels. I miss the bus fleet MARTA had in the 90's cause most of those buses were Detroit powered with 6V92, and 8V71 engines (aka) The Real Bus engines
I remember visiting Tampa back in 96 & 97, and I saw lots of Flxible Metros and some RTS buses running the streets. Were they all replaced by Gillig Low Floors?
I shall correct that. I was automatically assuming from the begining that the engines on these buses were DDs, not Cummins. But after I saw a video of a VIA (San Antonio transit) bus with the same engine, I realized that it was indeed a Cummins engine on this bus as well.

@8v71buses: Yes, HART phased out the RTS & Flxible buses in favor of Gillig Low Floor models. Even the Gillig Phantoms are gone, as of 2009.
