  • how the hell could anyone hate this what cloud have u been under!!!

  • seen them once seen them te and they never get old!!!

  • ima munkay mahnnn!

  • One of two albums I got for Christmas back then, this and Abbey Road. Santa was good to me that year.

  • Class. Pure class. And from the boys who didn't often display it.

  • Best song they ever did. Should've broken up after Mick Taylor departed because too much filler since '76. Legacy would've been 2nd only to The Beatles but the almighty buck was too important. Now, they are a cliche. They are nowhere on their way to no place.

  • @EnlightenedRogue True. They led the way to overpriced tickets & fan betrayal.

  • @EnlightenedRogue I'm sorry but what a silly comment-admittedly their truly creative period was over by the end of the 70's but their performances are still amazing-the weaving of guitars-charlies watt's beat and mick jaggers showmanship make them truly iconic.

  • @MrMegadanbo The group has taken plenty of Ben Franklins from me. Now they need to retire.

  • yes

  • I was just conceived, but, I love dis.

  • Thanks for posting this.. especially for the photo essay.. I love this time period in the 60's ..you can really feel the influences of the psychedellic era.. also of other artists of the time.. namely the Beatles and George Martin (Sgt. Peppers) , and people like Jimmy Hendrix and Janis Joplin.. very cool The Rolling Stones stay true to the blues roots and that what makes them timeless.. can't believe they are still going today.. amazing.. also amazing that they are still alive..!

  • beatles suck

  • @900rrmm YOU SUCK

  • intro is perfect.

  • Old Stones fans rock their chairs.....and chase their nurses for pills and taillights!!!!!!!

    love it..

  • @ ah @ chris Forte what happens to old Stones fans they can't read anymore ,at least this one can't Yes RIP BRIAN hahahahhaaa oooops and thanks

  • @ChrisForte ?? you mean figuratively dead in 1969 ? I was at Altamont with only 3 weeks to go 'till 1970 I'd say Mick T looked well and played like an angel.

  • The Rolling Stones brought me here haha

  • fav stones song all time.. where the slide part comes in is as good as where the piano comes in on jessica or the drums come in on stairway

  • HIMYM brought me here :)

  • Keith's 'slides' .....wild. masterful.perfect.

  • Look foward to hearing the original version"sometime soon".

  • @Krznb6 Glad the ring of flowers is gone!

  • @Krznb6

  • ni lagu selalu gw puter tiap buka youtube, gak bosenin

  • Ah, Nicky Hopkins' playing was beautiful.

  • In fact there's not a bad Rollin Stones Record!

  • @largheto amen to that

  • Wore out two eight tracks of Let it Bleed. I always knew Gimme Shelter would finally be rediscovered but I'm still surprised Monkey Man and the single Let it Bleed haven't enjoyed the same fate.

  • @goldbug66 Ah! But they have been! I don't really like youTube. I think they're a buncha Nazi "Thought-Police". Not nearly as (self) Important as they'd like to believe! But damned if you can't find some good Music here! Thinking about starting an alternative channel, called "myTube"; or some such; where you can actually speak your Mind!

    Interested?

  • great song,great pics!!

  • Michel mon ami, tu as raison: tout un début!!!

  • only know bout this song cause of GOODFELLAS!

  • @jumpinthefire28 Very sad, very sad you are

  • gggggggggggoooooooodfellas!!!!

  • Zoo or false

  • Whole song and album is great.Noticed in the early 70's the Stones had a keyboardist that was the best I EVER heard( Sympathy,SFM,etc.) and always considered Nicky Hopkins just unbelievable.

  • they used to steal them off of each others beds in the hotels,

competing with each other with the girls

  • they look like a hillybilly's wet scrotum

  • @SmallsTheMidget Well, thats better than a hillbillies (<correct spelling) dirty dick!

  • Oops. I forgot how GREAT Sticky Fingers was, too! I even have one of the original cover jackets with the working zipper.

  • With a few exceptions, from about 1965 to 1975, British bands WERE rock music. Let it Bleed and Exiles on Main Street are my favorite Stones "albums" of all time....although Their Satanic Majesties Request had some interesting experimental tunes. Before his untimely death, Brian Jones became an extraordinary multi-instrumentalist.

  • @LechDharma - Totally true. Those were the days, and The British OWNED rock in those times. Fortunately, I've seen The Rolling Stones entire career. Brian Jones was the founder of The Stones, the leader of The Stones and the genius of The Stones. Most people here too young to remember him. He was fantastically gifted, and I miss him to this very day.

Happy Holidays and Peace ... FoJ

  • The first 30 seconds are absolute perfection, I could play it over and over

  • GOODFELLAS!:)

  • 42 years old and there's still NOTHIN' that comes close.

  • Is it just me or does this remind you of "Welcome to the Jungle"?

  • @FTAization ohhh, God!! please don't compare this song with that one!

  • Let It Bleed,Their Satanic Majestys Request(both Brian Jones, beloved and missed),Sticky Fingers and Get Yer YAYAs Out,Black and Blue,Exile...God,they r THE GREATEST AND THE OLDEST R%R BAND IN THE WORLD!!!!

  • Love this song, evokes a mood from days gone by in my life. God bless Brian Jones and of course..the whole band.

  • Dirty, back-alley blues..............

  • Wow. What a piano.

  • I think this particular song states what's at the core of the Rolling Stones' music and why we love it.

Lyrics from "Monkey Man" (K. Richards, M. jagger from the Let It Bleed album

Well, I hope were not too messianic

    Or a trifle too satanic

We love to play the blues

    Listen and enjoy!

  • ill be damned if this song didnt throw me up out my chair dancin in my room the first time i blasted it. yepper i been dancin to this song ever since that, last week, and now all i wanna do is hear stones albums and drive around and well, if ur here listenin to this you know :()

  • Keith Richards cannot be killed by conventional weapons.

  • Well, asking wich song of the Stones is your favorite, is like asking wich of your kids you love the most. You all give them the same amount of love!

  • All my friends are honkees... Honkee Man, glad u r a honkee, too.

  • dig it man ; iknew that ya could ?

  • My brother turns on technomusic at 9:30 PM: Dad yells LOWER THE DANM VOLUME ITS FRICKIN 9:30 IN THE EVENING I turn on the 2:34 solo at 11:00 PM AND NOT A SINGLE FUCK WAS GIVEN!

  • @PBODK ur bro is a techno queer,

    u good though

  • gimme shelter would be my all time favorite, this follows closely

  • Back in 1985 I use to to love listening to this song with my ancient days sony walkman while operating a fifty caliber gatling gun over the Ivory Coast shooting pirates. Back then we didn't try to capture them, we just sank em!

  • @glenndemarest That Sir is the coolest thing I've heard all day.

  • AWESOME

  • 2:34 is where the best part starts.

  • @acorn0808 no the best part starts at 0:00

  • Best use of Monkey Man outside of the Stones in that Goodfellas flick (1990). Great movie, too.

  • Thank you very much! You have wonderful taste in music as well :)

  • This song is so amazing. Love the riffs! Probably my favorite stones song.

  • @TheoVoidTV Yeah. Me too. Of course, my favorite Stones song is usually whichever one is playing at the moment. 4 minutes ago it was "She's So Cold". 6 minutes before that it was "Brown Sugar" with Clapton on slide. Go figure!. Naybe that's why I've got all their records and seen'em 4 times live! Don't overlook Nicky Hopkins' amazing piano work in here! RIP Nicky. Still "miss you".

  • @ChristForte I think you meant to put two R.I.P.'s. Nicky Hopkins 1944-1994. :(

  • WOW! Where did you find these great photos with Mick Taylor in the band for this song? Thanks for posting this!

  • lets get it together for another new set of songs and a tour mick and company

  • I absolutely love this song, and the whole Let it Bleed CD!

  • @candy1710 You have exquisite taste in music----couldn't agree with you more about this song and that album.

  • Arctic Monkey Man Alex Turner... strings along the tradition... as the Greatest R&R band on the planet...

  • freakin aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa man

  • Some of Keith's best playing !

  • It may be old rock, but, damn, is it good!

  • This song was cool when it cam out, and it's still cool now.

  • Very cool, well done...

  • Was this the last album with Brian ?

  • My absolute favorite Stones song! Completely underrated.

  • The smartest, cutest Stone. Without him they would not be. I see how they always try to cut Brian out of the video's. What's with that?

  • Eleven people are...monkey see monkey do...damn you flithy apes...

  • at 2:26= a true rocker.

  • "I am just a monkey man and glad you are a monkey woman too babe!"

  • sex, drug, satanic and rock roll, Men

  • nice that the stones have a lot of young fans, only shame is that none of them could ever see the band when mick taylor was with them[apart from old film]

  • @titchk2003 Or Bill Wyman. Heck I'm 49 and have never seen them with Taylor. Don't give Wood short shrift, he's an excellent musician and artist. Frankly much better rounded than Taylor. However, the first album I ever bought was Ya Yas and my own lead style as a guitarist leans heavily on the Taylor licks I learned from Sympathy, Live w/Me, Stray Cat & Midnight Rambler.

  • @GemTones hi, if your 49 and mick taylor left the stones 37 years ago you would only have been 12 so its not surprising you never got to see them with taylor, would have been a treat for you especially you being a guitar player, are you in a band yourself? do you live in britain?

  • @Stacie4Kirk Haven't been in a band for many years. I'm in California.

  • Best opening 30 seconds of any song ever??? This or Gimme shelter?

  • @giantmidget08 Between the two, Gimme Shelter. But neither are the best ever, in my opinion. That would go to Renegade, or Carry On Wayward Son.

  • @Ironman374 lol free bird, tuesdays gone

    lol

    better than any stones

    or kansas

    or styx

  • @Ironman374 ur an idiot

  • @sirmoosingtonesquire Pff. Okay, "Sir Moosington". :)

  • @Ironman374 Renegade over Gimme Shelter or Monkey Man? A Styx song over a Stones song? Are you high?

  • @clockworkmike83 Did you even read his question? "Best opening to a song ever?" And who cares if I prefer Carry On Wayward Son or Renegade to Monkey Man? No, I'm not high, but it's funny you ask, since the Stones were stoned quite often.

  • @Ironman374 I still stand by my point. Tommy Shaw talking over the opening of Renegade hardly qualifies for best song opening. If that were the case? Then I'd say Number of the Beast

  • @clockworkmike83 See, my friend, that's just where you and I differ. You need to look more into Shaw's delivery and the setting of the lyrics. The bass drum mimicking a heartbeat. Then Shaw belts it to begin the music. Phenomenal opening in my opinion.

  • @Ironman374 dont ever compare those obnoxious/ pretentious pieces of garbage to the stones

  • @YanksFan162 Yeah, I'm not a Yankee fan, either.

  • @Ironman374 Clever now, are we?

  • @YanksFan162 I guess. You're the one that came in flinging your keyboard at me for stating my opinion.

  • @giantmidget08 The beggining of this sounds like a hiphop song (probably the soul connection) - years ahead of it's time - So I would say this

  • Some of Keith's best playing. Don't think so......try and play it.

  • @l2string Keithd not about technique in playing, it's the sound he makes when its played that has made him what he is.

  • All my friends are junkies and so am I too ...

  • I'm only thirteen I love the rolling stones and all the 60's and earlier 70's music

  • " I'm a monkey!"

  • @tobygrey22 SO AM I PEACE OUT BROTHER

  • Marry me, Sir Mick Jagger?

    Taffy Windsor

    Seattle/NYC

  • I can't go a day without listening to this, honestly.

  • I think 90% of the absolute best guitar riffs in the world came from this band....trying to think what else is up there with these guys guitars...I'm drawing a blank.

  • When I was knee high to a pile of shit, not my shit, I'd heft out a 10' tall mound; I'm full of shit. No, just the standard conventional pile of shit, about so high. Anyway, when I was young, my parents told me that there are only 2 types of people in the world; those that know Monkey Man, and those who don't. Since then I've discovered everything else is deviation, distraction, useless moaning and bitching. And Keith Richards did not drink out of inkwells and vomit blue filth from Hell.

  • the one and only rock till ya drop the rolling stones yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well I was born in 1978, and my average-educated ears tell me that the Stones had stopped Rolling even before that year. I love to listen some of their music from time to time though. I love this very song because it's really funky.

  • i am 13, i hate new music, the only new artist i like is mumford and sons, i mean i cant not listen to newer music but i definetly prefer older music. when i was about 4-5 my dad played the song cats in the cradle and i new and he new that 60's and 70's and even the 80's music was right for me. i am the biggest stones fan in florida. probably cause my dad is too :) i love it when all my teachers quiz me on songs and i actually beat them. its awesome!

  • This song is sex on wax. Boys, if you want to get laid, play this song and Born on the Bayou by CCR. If your girlfriend doesn't like this song, throw her back and find a new one! ;-)

  • my favorite song by mick...lol

  • I love this song!

  • @ndgreen1 as i mentioned this song would be shit without the paino opening from the late, great Nicky Hopkins. I rest my case. proven:-|

  • @luvtotruck I thoroughly agree, Without Nicky Hopkins, certain Stones songs wouldn't be the undeniable classics they are today. I include Sympathy, Monkey Man, most of Exile, and all of Beggars Banquet. Hopkins made everyone he played with 10 times better, and the Stones were the best with him.

  • Excellent tune, pure niceness. I always thought it was fucked up that they fired Brian Jones from the band in '69 then he died shortly after. I know he was really bad into drug addiction and stuff but still! Brian Jones deserved better than being fired from the band he helped create anyone agree??

  • Damn helicopters have been chasing me all day...

  • @sidewinder2132 that song your thing is called "memo from turner"

  • @sidewinder2132 Great Song, Great Film.

  • @sidewinder2132 'All day, the poor guy's been watching helicopters and tomato sauce.' ;)

  • @snakehunter1964 ROFL! classic shit

  • @IrishQueen2388 LOL!!! ;)

  • @snakehunter1964 lmao...

  • @EnchantedGypsy1218 haha!!! ;)

  • @snakehunter1964 haha!! wanna see helicopters too??

  • @MrTubejockey lol!!! ;)

  • @snakehunter1964 you got it

  • @sidewinder2132 What's that supposed to mean?

  • @GarySSBM It's from Goodfellas.

  • I'm 2 years old and will still be listening to this in 600 years

  • flat-out one of the best openings to a song of all time.

  • lo que no me gusta de esta cancion y el unico defecto que le encuentro es que termina :(

  • Hi there,

youtube is sorely lacking.... read the last post, Thanks, GBU, WG

  • Hi there, youtue is somrely lacking a good version of "Memo from Turner" like the one on the singles collection- if you could put it on that would be great, Thanks, GBU, WG

  • How I Met Your Mother brought me here haha

  • @zanezabar Yeah, well how I probably banged your mom brought me here 30 years ago.

  • @LeCutter funny. why would you say something so immature like that?

  • @zanezabar Wow self-righteous and anal much?

  • @LeCutter yep.

  • READ 4 PAGES OF POSTS AND NO ONE MENTIONED NICKY. WITHOUT HIS CREATION SONG WOULD BE SHIT. HAD JUST LISTENED TO IMAGINE CD AND KNEW HE JAMMED WITH JOHN AND GEORGE ON IT THEN FORGOT HE PLAYED ON BUNCH OF TRACKS ON LET IT BLEED

  • That eerie paino the one and only missed legendary Nicky Hopkins. RIP:(

  • The Stones will be rollin' foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 you Mick, Keith, Ron, and Charlie xoxoxo RIP Brian, and ty for your contributions too Mr. Taylor. Can't call him Mick, there's only ONE Mick in my Stones

  • Greatest rock n' roll band ever! Two kinds of peeps in this world: Beatles peeps and Stones peeps. I'm def a Stones peep. Also love "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'" and "Sympathy for the Devil".

  • @BlondieGrrl65 now thats not true, i swing both ways lol ;)

  • @BlondieGrrl65 Beatles = Schoolboys. the Stones = Renegades. STONES FOREVER!

  • The Stones at their greatest.

  • goodfellas!

  • BEST FUCKIN SONG OF ALL TIME

  • anyone know why non of the members of the group never grow beards ?

  • @reaney1977 i never thought of that, but it is strange.

  • @reaney1977 there are photos of both Mick and Brian with beards somewhere out there.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @reaney1977 you know i've asked myself the same question. Keith could have grown a good beard, brian jones grew some decent blonde stubble, mick had an amazing beard in the 80s. go to rolling stone website, then in search 'rock star beards' and look for micks beard photo.

  • "STONESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS"

  • "Old man music" as my eleven year old son says to me, his 54 year old father...

Yet the next old man song shuffled in on the Ipod has him "Awesoming"!

  • @therickse Right on! my 55 year old father has introduced me to so much old gold it's impossible to even respect modern music.

  • @therickse

just tell him geezers rule"...im 54...have 2 kids 19 and 21..they get it

  • @therickse "Old man music" rules though. My Papa and I listen to his old Stones records.

  • Where's my needle.....

  • @skinny9280 No joke!

  • imma monkeeeeh!! one of the best riffs of their songs, #1 would be sftd

  • This song must have been written for Keith Richards because he actually looks like a monkey back in the 60's.

  • I raised my boy on The Stones, Zep, Beatles, hell even some old Jefferson Airplane! He may listen to that ape-shit rap at times but he always comes home to some good ole rock n roll with a pepper of blues. God Bless our past legends. SRV, we miss you.
