  • When this was on telly in the early eighties I was a enjoying the freeedom of getting out late at night and missed so many of them preferring to waste my ruddy time sitting in the pub watching the clock tick. a blank 3 hour fuji video tape retailed for eight quid but I was recording all the old monster movies being shown on four, but now all those movies I own on dvd but not this excellent series. The ones I did see were tremendous too. I peed my money against a wall instead of recording them

  • @TheShotgunslade I'm OLD - so saw them the FIRST time around. I enjoyed them again as naustalgia, when C4 showed 'em. As you say - at that time, VTs were a RIP-OFF, so I couldn't afford to tape 'em in their entirety. But I stayed GLUED to the telly when they were shown. I had TWO VCRs...

  • That theme use to scare me when i little

  • @AuntyM66 The other version was ever worst. To this day i cannot watch Edgar Wallace

  • Was this ever a single? (yep I know the Shads rocked this too)..

  • This used to scare the shit outa me as a kid

  • I remember watching this in the late 70's. The theme tune sounds very much like Lush's Last night and I suppose they ripped it offf from here although they would have been too young to remember it I suppose.

  • I'm old enough to have seen the original Edgar Wallace broadcasts, but didn't actually see them until the early 1980s, when some of them were shown on tv. Love the opening theme, and have got a version of it by the Shadows.

  • @Jlt2006out i find the shadows version too fast and jolly. this is much more mysterious and atmospheric.

  • @bradshawvincent - The first, EARLY version of this title sequence had a TOTALLY different version of the music, which was a VERY slow, beatless interpretation - even MORE mysterious and atmospheric (which sadly, I don't have) - but then the SIXTIES took off...

  • @bradshawvincent - p.s. - I just FOUND it! YT search: Edgar Wallace Mysteries: Playback (1962) - but don't get too interested in the plot - the poster only uploaded the first half - they want to do "swopsies" - but the first, beatless version I spoke of is at the start of THAT.

  • @bradshawvincent - as you were! I see you've already BEEN there! I left another reply there, too. Hope YT manages to forward them to you!

  • Nice.

  • ....remember this.....a great spooky intro to a great series from long ago....thanks......
