  • hi..thanks for the vid. this will be a great help when replacing my head unit. did you disconnect your battery during the installation?

  • @iskooobydoo

no, disconnecting the battery isn't necessary to do this installation.

  • does RCD510 works fine on mk5 ?

    everything work on it?

  • @MunJawad

    it works just fine.

if you have an earlier car (05-08) you might have to replace the CAN Gateway module to prevent the flat battery problems.

also, the * button on the steering wheel will no longer function, but all other wheel buttons will continue to work as intended.

  • can you install the mkvi radio in a mkv?

    do you need anything else?

    is anyone selling theirs(pm me)?

  • @2Ronin666

the RCD510 is a MK6 radio. depending on what year your MK5 is, you might have to upgrade the CAN-BUS Gateway module.

    check ebay for these.

    plenty for sale on ebay.

  • @exaturbo 2007. will the steering controls still work? will bluetooth START working?

    -thanks

  • @2Ronin666

yes, the steering wheel controls still work.

even the blootooth one (assuming you have coded it properly) the only button that wont work is the one that changes the audio source. so to change from am to fm to cd etc you have to use the radio buttons.

the little * on the wheel will no longer function. (it doesn't work anymore in my car since the RCD510 was installed)

  • Hi

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to take this video and upload it.

I am upgrading from an RCD300 to an RCD510 - is there anything else I need to upgrade, apart from a CANBUS upgrade?

  • @uptheclarets100

as far as i know, the canbus upgrade is al you will need to do.

long with making sure the new canbus is coded correctly for your car.

it's not just a simple swap over to the new module.

  • You guys just saved me a shed load of money. stereo fitted without going to a vw dealer. many many thanks guys.

  • @MARTINDOWDS

    no problems. glad it helped.

    that's why i made the video :-)

  • Yeah you were right! Lots of connecters! Lol got it done anyway and thanks for the video was a great help !

  • @homer90000

    no problem.

im glad the video was helpful.

  • Thanks mate about to install my alpine w408bt this is a great help! Do you know if this stereo will plug right in or will I need connection adaptors?

  • @homer90000

you will 100% need some adaptors.

the Antenna that VW uses are not even close to being a standard fitment, and the power and speaker connections will also need some kind of adaptor plugs. you will also loose you steering wheel controls.

(unless you have the steering wheel interface that alpine sells)

  • THANKYOU and I'm assuming this the the exact same for a Mk5 Jetta right ?

  • @icedjiggythug 95% the same, just the top of the dash is a bit dif... but THANKS

  • @icedjiggythug

yes, the same applies for the Jetta.

the R32 and GTI are almost the same too.

where the golf has a tray on top of the radio, the R32 and GTI have a vent.

  • Excellent

  • question: why you destroy all the dash by the top? lol

just remove the little plastic panel on the front and pull out the radio. Half of the job!

  • @JBFUCKER

because you can not remove the panel that surrounds the radio any other way.

the trim piece that has the air vents in it has to be removed in order to remove two screws that hold the radio trim in place at the top.

i have had this radio out about 5 times. believe me, if there were an easier way, i would be doing it.
