  • O...MY...GOD....MINDBLOWN....

  • This is awesome although I also do this dance and I know this.

  • This is so cool, I've never seen anything like this before! It's like a raw, stripped down version of the footwork & spins of the dance -- but then coupled with singing and instrument playing?!?! That's crazy that they can do all that at the same time!

  • @MsBansiBajoria not crazy-thats just how the art of kathak is like....

  • Beats the hell out of Riverdance.

  • Holy Cow! This is fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!

  • wow.

  • Love this show! Terrific!!! Girls, you're great!)

  • tap dancing - Indian version

  • WOW !!! Amazing artwork mixed with dance, clearly making a stance in a new art form

  • AMAZING!!! BEAUTIFUL AND INSPIRING!

  • this is beautiful and incredible -

praise and blessings to all involved!!!

  • Kathak Yoga is completely different from what you are talking about. Watch the video again--they aren't saying the bols, they're reciting the theka at the same time they're saying the bols AND they're playing manjira (hand cymbals). Extremely difficult and totally unique!

  • Certainly there are a few added dimensions to highlight complexity. I see what you are saying. I'm not trying to argue or anything like that. I just suppose that most kathak dancers should all be able to do these three things, perhaps simultaneously, yes - at any given moment, we should know where we are. Always! Obviously these ladies are well-trained and have put some polish on everything as a professional production with pizazz.

  • I appreciate that we can have a dialogue and not argue--I think it's great! You are right that dancers should always know where they are in theka, but to recite theka and then perform compositions (and in this case they're reciting a 9 1/2 beat theka) simultaneously is much harder than knowing where one is in theka (which is hard too, especially if one is performing complex upaj, which most people aren't even performing or teaching/learning anymore--it's so sad!).

  • what does SUPPORT CHHANDAM OR DIE mean? Ha ha ha. It's so funny...I'm sorry, it's funny!!

I don't meant to be totally rude here, but I learned kathak for a long ass time, and I wasn't even allowed to dance until I could stay the bols and do them (at the same time), AND count them. And I didn't learn from Mr. Das. Does this mean I don't know anything?

  • Yeah, that support Chhandam or die is stupid. The arts should be about more educated thinking than that. However, I don't think you're clear on what Kathak Yoga is. It's much more challenging than just reciting the bols--that all Kathak dancers do. You have to recite the underlying theka (rhythmic pattern) at the same time that you're dancing the rhythmically different, and often opposing, bols. This unique innovation was created by Pandit Das and researched at Harvard University.

  • Can someone please post of Pandit Das doing Kathak Yoga with the tabla? This is amazing, but that is unbelievable and historic. Please???

  • Look at the India Jazz Suites clip, he is doing it there and singing also, and dancing with Jason the tap dancer while he plays tabla. I heard sometimes he even throws dumbells while dancing and singing!

  • SUPPORT CHHANDAM OR DIE

    4 from left: footwork weak

  • WOW!!!!!! I love u guys! U totally rock! This is exactly what makes me feel so grateful to be a dancer. Hats off to Pt. Chitresh Das.

  • I am physically exhausted just by watching this..

  • Amazing! I am rendered speechless!

  • AMAZING KEEP UP TEH GOOD WORK

  • I went to this show, and it was absolutely amazing. How do you do anything in 9 1/2 beat cycles? You need to have more shows! Have you ever considered collaborating with the San Francisco Taiko Dojo? That would be fantastic!

  • WONDERFUL wish i had these schools presented in my country loved it and enjoyed

  • This is Kathak!

  • So THAT'S why Dadaji always had us recite the theka and count out the bols on our hands! I tried to do that with the last composition and couldn't get it - now I won't be able to sleep tonight until I get it right!

  • wow! their timing is amazing!

  • wow - this is true genius.

I'm in complete awe. I am a classical musician and I cant fathom how they are doing this. Its SO complex. What unbelievable training!

  • Seeing this kind of discipline and focus makes me want to move back to SF and study with Dadaji again!

  • speechless!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing! It is full of strength, beauty, complexity, and passion.

  • Incredible, beautiful,and inspirational!!!

  • They are so disciplined... WOW

Amazing performance, so much energy, passion, love, and beauty.
