  • i LOVE you Buffy~thankyou for all you have given us

  • that my tears might drown the wind

  • a seminole. total talent. like all the tribes

  • One great song.... thanks Buffy...

TheWolfeWOOF's YouTube video of this with Dr Who and Rose is terrific, with Buffy singing.

Also, if anyone is interested, the French singer Francoise Hardy does a pretty decent cover, available on YouTube...

  • @TravelerDiogenes - Oops! The one video I mentioned was actually - "Until it's time for you to go" with The Doctor and Rose ---- sorry! But it is brilliant.

  • Many years ago I had a cassette( remember them?) of Buffys and it had a version of Winken Blinken & Nod on it I absolutely loved aswell as a lot of other songs-I'd love to hear it again.

  • This is such a beautiful song. It perfectly expresses the pain of unrequited love. Buffy is such an amazing singer/songwriter.

  • there must be songs as beautiful as this song.

  • I MISSED YOUR MUSIC AND SO HAPPY TO FIND IT AGAIN,THANK YOU!

  • I Love You Buffy

  • Just full of lovely, truly, wildly turning to joy in the sunshine sweetheart pretty girl from the tribe I wished I called family to sing and dance and be among her twirls and joists and springing into melody. Sweet is a name so otherly, B Sainte-Marie...darling song. Folk people live on for bliss to the world...."just for the sake of my broken heart."

  • Thank you

  • A very unique and wonderful lady.....Her 'Universal Soldier' is timeless and holds a very important message.

  • Take my hand for a while, explain it to me once again, just for the sake of my broken heart. Look into my eyes and maybe I will understand how love I counted on was never there. You see, I thought that you might love me. So you caught me, it seems, off balance with a heart that's full, of love and pretty dreams that two should share. And so, I know, but please before you go..... Take my hand for a while, explain it to me once again, Just for the sake of my broken heart.
  • i have only just discovered this song' i was looking for a song that would express my feeling for the woman i love' and this is the song' i thank you buffy' for writting this wondrous song' god bless you'

  • love this song, thx from switzerland

  • What a great song. It means so much to me today. I have a heart that I am responsible for and today it stays with me. I will listen to this song from now on when I get mad and reflect before I speak hurtful words of leaving. Thanks for reminding me what is important in our lives.

  • what a beautiful haunting song. first heard this when i was 10 or 11. never got this song out of my mind since then. thank you for this gift buffy.

  • Kaunis.

  • How can anyone dislike this beautiful song? I've loved it since I bought the LP back in '68

  • i'm gladly melting away...

  • Thanks for posting. A very nice heartfelt song by Buffy.

  • Devastatingly, heart-breakingly beautiful. I think this is a song any human being can relate to.

  • Beautiful. oh my! Buffy is so beautiful with a sweetness and strength about her. Amazing! Thank you! Incredible. 10*

    ~Roses

  • ...isn't it, tho!

    ~

  • My grandfather was a Nashville session player during the 50's & 60's and over the last 20+ years I've been collecting music he recorded on. The first album that I started my collection with was Buffy Sainte-Marie's "I'm Gonna Be a Country Girl Again."

I still listen to this song/album quite regularly. Good stuff! :-)

  • Beautiful song. Beautiful artist

  • Tender and real music. Emotive and rich.

  • this takes me back a long time ago

  • what a wonderful song to reflect on - the past... One of the best songwriter's in the USA (ironic eh?). Peace! JP.

  • awesome .. soo beautiful .. when is `Buffy going to visit the UK.

IF you haven't heard it " RUNNING FOR THE DRUM' Buffys latest. Couldn't find a YOUTUBE link. go and buy it "I HAVE"

  • Ohh..This is SO beautiful:-)

  • What an incredible woman. What an amazing human being, and what an incandescent singer/songwriter. One of my top favorites, always. 'Piney Wood Hill' is my personal anthem...

  • Une des plus belle chanson canadienne. Merci Buffy!

  • whoa this makes me cry because it is so beautiful.

  • i understand the woman wrote the song

  • Always loved her music and songs

  • How could I ever have forgotten Buffy Sainte Marie? Shame on ME!

  • What a fabulous song ,up there with, Until Its Time For YouTo Go,and the Big Ones Get Away!

  • I love this song!!

  • I fell i love with this lady when I first heard her voice. I wished she were singing this to me when I first heard it. Alas, it was not true.

  • I always loved this song, I´d forgotten how beautiful Buffys voice is, amazing what else can I say. I love it, thanks for uploading this. She is underated but then the great ones usually are.

  • You said it so beautifully.

  • Although I must add, she is not so "underrated" as you profess. Her influence is too great.

  • Yes I accept what you say, I´m not sure that here in Europe she is so widely known, although I see that Buffy will be in concert in London UK this July, only wish I could get from Spain to see her, Well, she has at least one fan here in Spain, me, again thanks for the upload..

  • I have loved Buffy since her first days and have many of her albums. Her voice always gave me chills and I would listen by the hour. I was so happy to find this and to find that people are still interested in hearing the things she had to say. It makes you weep. Genocide is happening all over the world and we act as though it is new. There is blood on our soil too and it still cries out to us.

  • She has certainly shaped the woman I have become. She will live on forever.

  • why did she never become as big as,....or listened to she carries words of wisdom

  • she didn't become a huge star (as she well should have) because she was literally blacklisted in the US because of her song 'Universal Soldier'. Go to her website and read about it - it's sad.

  • she was big in the 60s 70s

  • that horse was an appalosa... yes... it was. keep on... many deep feelings from denmark

  • just gorgeous.

  • George Hamilton IV also covered this song.

Canada gave us Buffy St. Marie, as well as George Hamilton IV.

George made a name for himself in the USA; esp. in country music.

He is very appealing when he sings "Now and for Always". It was a fair hit for him here in America.

His biggest pop hits were "A Rose and a Baby Ruth" and "Why Don't They Understand?"

Both were Top 10 hits in the USA.

  • you're right, folks - this song is pure beauty

  • Yes it´s beautiful. Thanks :)

  • Beautiful Native American soul.

  • What a beautiful song, from a cree(?) canadian Indian...

  • stupenda Buffy

  • up there with Joni, Marianne, Judy and just a few others, one of her best songs, simply

    wonderful

  • Stunningly beautiful! This is another vision of USA. Poetry. A true original and romantic, peaceful song! Well done!

  • Heartbreakingly beautiful. I've never stopped loving this song or loving Buffy.

  • Beautiful ballad from a beautiful and talented Native American. This has always been one of my favorites by Buffy. The musical arrangement and backing music is lovely, especially the guitar and piano. These session musicians, not forgetting Buffy's wonderful vocals combined together has a winner here.

  • This song always makes me cry. I just love Buffy.

  • Thanks wellgay,

I love this when I was young and was completely got forgotten.

  • Please dear it is wellgday not wellgay.:)))

  • "Sorry...the love I counted on was never there."

    B. Ste. M. this is the hard lesson girls must learn, I learned it the easy way via my Mother. One can only hope that your lament will serve motherless young girls. Wait for the one who loves and respects you.

  • exquisite,heartbreakingly,exquisite...funny, but sometimes you wonder if it's really true, or maybe not....

  • You put together a beautiful montage of Buffy. Thank you. Ideed, it's a beautiful and tender song-thank you Buffy!

  • I love this song. thanks for sharing.

  • love this song, love this singer! Buffy you rock-STILL!

  • Beautiful song and very touching lyrics. Also recorded by Pozo Seco in 1970 on the album "Spend Some Time With Me", done in two-part harmony by Don Williams and Susan Taylor on that version.

  • beautiful song for special person,

  • Love Floyd Cramer's piano on this song. Haunting melody.

  • beautiful simply bautiful

  • this takes me back to my youth aone one the greatest songs ever written

  • this is one of the best songs ever written. buffy's SUCH a good songwriter and she never gets enough credit for it.

  • yes this is brilliant, but her eagleman/changing woman is something else! one of my fave L.P.'s of the seventies

  • Buffy Sainte-Marie never stops "delivering" on "Take My Hand For A While." Edouarda "nails it" with this brief yet absolutely complete description of Buffy's fabulous performance on this classic hit: "her voice goes straight to my heart as only Joni, Marianne, Judy, Françoise and a few others do."

  • im 30 yrs old, grew up with nirvana, the chili peppers, weezer etc however some how came across buffy sainte-marie in the mix. i can remember being made an ass for liking "country music" the likes of buffy. i took the wrath, however full circle. i can't tell you how many friends i still talk to have all of a sudden discovered buffy saint-marie, wondering who this woman is. anyways thats my story. she is on cool woman...and she has a conscience. living legand

  • I love buffy been looking many years shes such a beautiful folk singer, just silence

  • damn...wow

  • great song from a great woman.

  • A beautiful song and a great voice. I love it.....

  • What a great talent, always loved the voice....

  • In a few words she's said it all. All we need is love.

  • Take my hand for a while......just for the sake of my broken heart.

  • I love this song, her voice, her artistry in general. She is great.

  • wonderful song

her voice goes straight to my heart as only Joni, Marianne, Judy, Françoise and a few others do

  • Buffy Sainte-Marieって、最高!

    女ボブディラン?

  • I Very Like Her Voice & Song, When I was Young at 1972 I ever hear Glenn Campbell Sing This Song, Until Now When I Will Die Some Years next, This Song follow in my ear,

    Thanks Sweet Indian Women.

    erryanz_slo from Merapi's Valley

  • I Very Like Her Song & Her Voice,

  • excellemt find ...so enjoyed special lyrics from a special lyricist....God Bless her...

  • I wish I coud sing.... I need to sing this song, the words were written for me at this time.

Thanks for posting Buffy, Love her

  • I've loved Buffy's heart felt voice since hearing her as a small child. Thanks for the post!

  • I find in her voice a raw entreaty that we change, that we realize past injustices and try to make things different, even if we were not responsible for them originally. I have treasured this woman's message since first hearing her so many years ago.

  • Buffy, you're so nice I hope you were mine... I'm a great dreamer :o)

  • Glen Campbell did cover it, as well as "Until It's Time for You To Go" --another one by Buffy.

  • Thanks donnyvango, a song to listen to over and over again, and great visuals.

Powerful, outspoken women scare most men away. Is this the song?

  • From the times of the johnson admn. haveing asked radio stations in U.S and Can. to not play her songs of truth, justice and Love.

If some people would have listen to our Sister

    more..Beautyfull song. thanks

  • Absolutely wonderful. As always.

  • I think that Glen Campbell might have covered it, too. I'd like to hear Williams's.

  • Her country album was flawless. The songs should've been covered by all the Tammys, Lynns,Lorettas etc but country was sooooooo anti-hippie back then.

  • Don Williams' did a better version of this song, but it is a great song nonetheless.

  • His version isn't nearly as tender or heartbreaking. And that steel guitar thing she does with her voice is too much!

  • For years I resisted country music as it simply wasn't pretty, which is enough for popular music. When I heard Buffy Sainte Marie singing country/folksy type music, with this song being one of her best. Tall Trees in Georgia really reveals the expansive range of emotion in a song--the moan can carry more emotion than the word sometimes: "uuum, and if perfection could be found in mortal men,..." Thanks for all those lovely pictures of this "imperialist of the air," as E. M. Forster would say.

  • To me there is a major difference between country music, which can be pleasant, and folk, which is meant to get into your very being, to make you think, to make you care. Her voice cries for her people and perhaps makes us cry for them too.

  • If I go to heaven, her voice will be escorting me.

  • "And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." Good choice of the first order of angels.
