Rick, i am slowly going through all of your videos, you have a lot! but today i was curious to see how other "trainers" go about lunging their horses and omg... they were just awful! they were not giving the horse any direction and some even said that when the horse walks towards them that the horses are confused and claustrophobic! i am never going to watch any other videos out of curiosity again! and they kept dragging the horses around with those awful bits! i would kick those people too.
What great videos! I had a similar experience when I went out on the acreage with a giant blue recycling bin on wheels. The whole herd took off like a wave, all moving together. I ended up just leaving the bin in the middle of the field while they figured it out. Eventually the younger geldings started to bump and paw it, which caused the bin to fall over and roll down a hill. This started the whole running process all over again! LOL!! I love watching my herd.
I guess i should elaborate, The fire was still way up in the mountains, The planes were getting water from the river lower in the valley. It had went on pretty much all day, and as the day went on, the horses learned to ignore it. We didn't have any trips planned that day, so we didn't saddle anyone up, i just brought them in for a good grooming and some treats. except for Spiker, because I decided to go exploring later that morning. pretty cool stuff Rick, thanks!
Rick, that's awesome! thanks for sharing. when I was guiding, we came across something like that when an airplane flew above us quite close as there was forest fire in the mountains close by. it was early in the morning and we hadn't brought the horses in yet, But I noticed that the higher horses, Spike, Lady, Topsy and Jake grouped together and watched, and the lower horses ran around. didn't think of it in the terms that you explained. I just figured the higher guys were more used to it. cool!
