@mblisniuk Not strictly true. Mika Hakkinen and Kimi Raikonnen were more than capable of challenging Schumacher. However, Hakkinen retired and Raikonnen's cars tended be unreliable. The true talent of Schumacher was his ability to build a team around him that could provide him with what was necessary to win.

I think there was a completeness with Schumacher's driving that was special. Not just speed, but in the wet, in the dry, in a tricky situation, fighting through the field. But the comparison to Senna is not really valid because nobody can know for sure who was the best because Senna did not get to continue. I think Schumy is one of the best ever drivers, but not necessarily the best ever as there were other complete Masters like Senna.

@lilbro209 Senna was more successful in qualifyings, Schumacher was more stable and thus more successful in races. And in the end it's victories and points that decide about championships. So, saying that Senna was better does not seem logical to me. Senna was one of the best and Schumacher was one of the best. Comparing is difficult coz they were driving at different times and there was only one race where they were really driving against each other with both in competitive cars.

But even there Senna was past his best while Schumacher was the rising star and increasingly getting stronger, so really no comparison is possible between these two great drivers

Maybe he is, but that doesn't mean he has no talent. The way he coped with his f1 cars reflected that. Not many people drive cars with oversteer, sacrificing stability for speed. Schumacher was one of those people who could make the necessary corrections whereas other drivers would just spin out.
He didn't cheat on every race and qualifying in his career. There are plenty of instances of him dominating through sheer skill.

I'm not sure what race, but he stopped, risked getting hit by other F1 cars just to help a fellow driver. Senna was amazing, both on the track and off. Even Schumi once said Senna was the best, so did so many other drivers.

An example (besides his known driving skills): Interlagos 93, he won and lots of spectators jumped into the track and made him stop, took him out of the cockpit and held him up in their arms (before podium).

Indeed the 1995 race at the Nürburgring was awesome. It was quite unbelievable that he managed to pass Alesi in this chicane. I was there... at the moment he overtook Alesi the crowds went wild. It was such a great atmosphere!
You get the point that SO many misses: that its impossible to compare - at least accurately - from era to era, different teams, regulations etc. etc.!

I am a Schumacher and Senna fan but, I'm tired of people praising one and spitting on the other as if they both weren't as competitive, awesome, fast, determined, die-hard, rule-breaking, ruthless and, dirty as each other. They both had all kinds of controversy surrounding their careers.

I'm not saying that 2pac was a villain, nor MJ was a child molester, to be honest I don't even care about their personal lives, what I'm interested in is their talent. All the names I mentioned are/were very talented people who had rocks and mud thrown at during their lives and raised to Gods level after their death. Not to mention the great man he was out of the tracks.Even Prost became a friend after he stooped racing, despite all the years of the most ferocious,controversial and exciting battle against pilots ever seem.Schumi ruled in a very boring era in the F1 history, where there was no much changes in the rules from year 2 year.

In 10 years of F1 Senna achieved more apart from Schumi's statistics.
Anyway said they didn't raced each other at the same level of competition. ALthough 93 and 94 the Bennetons where unbelieveble.

He didn't race against them for a long period, but he raced against them, and sometimes he beat them in a considerably worse car, as some kind of rookie driver...

Seem to recall Senna did everything possible to win. Much like Michael. I won't dispute illegal driver aids as I don't have any facts in regards to that. Buuut saying Senna waits for others to crash? That's a bit much. What with Suzuka and all.
Personally I don't really like trying to figure out who is the "greatest" as there are so many factors. Though if Senna was one of, if the not the QUICKEST driver of all time. I wouldn't be surprised.

@lilbro209 Senna was more successful in qualifyings, Schumacher was more stable and thus more successful in races. And in the end it's victories and points that decide about championships. So, saying that Senna was better does not seem logical to me. Senna was one of the best and Schumacher was one of the best. Comparing is difficult coz they were driving at different times and there was only one race where they were really driving against each other with both in competitive cars.

But even there Senna was past his best while Schumacher was the rising star and increasingly getting stronger, so really no comparison is possible between these two great drivers

Schumacher scored more points than Senna from his 3rd race in 1991 until last race against Senna on 1st may 1994, being a rookie.
In 1996 Schumacher would have destroyed Senna. If Senna had not died, everyone now would consider Schumacher better than Senna.

Maybe he is, but that doesn't mean he has no talent. The way he coped with his f1 cars reflected that. Not many people drive cars with oversteer, sacrificing stability for speed. Schumacher was one of those people who could make the necessary corrections whereas other drivers would just spin out.
He didn't cheat on every race and qualifying in his career. There are plenty of instances of him dominating through sheer skill.

@Playster3 Well look at his laps, Ayrton Senna ascended from 5th place to 1st place in under 40 seconds. Look at his laps, dry or wet, he was a machine. I'm not sure what race, but he stopped, risked getting hit by other F1 cars just to help a fellow driver. Senna was amazing, both on the track and off. Even Schumi once said Senna was the best, so did so many other drivers.

@Playster3 I respect MSC but DON´T get wrong: Senna (as many others) was already a legend while he was alive and not only in Brasil but even Japan as well. Even Prost claimed that it was akward that french people supported Senna instead of him many times.
An example (besides his known driving skills): Interlagos 93, he won and lots of spectators jumped into the track and made him stop, took him out of the cockpit and held him up in their arms (before podium).

he's a bril commentator. in his later years he had a habit of making mistakes, but i remember in monza 98 when hakkinen spun across the gravel he started shouting like mad, and again in 99 when the ferrari mechanics "FORGOT" eddie irvine's tyre. i always believed that it happened on purpose, schumy and ferrari didnt want eddie to win the title. maybe im biased cos im irish though :)

Indeed the 1995 race at the Nürburgring was awesome. It was quite unbelievable that he managed to pass Alesi in this chicane. I was there... at the moment he overtook Alesi the crowds went wild. It was such a great atmosphere!
