i remember this tune way back in my secondary school disco (1981, poss82), and dancing with a girl i fancied so much. the dj played this and i remember my old school mates looking at amazement as i was dancing with this girl.
thanks for uploading the video and giving me the chance to re-live my school boy memory. :-)
For some reason I got this into my head y'day, and I remembered buying it in early eighties but for the life of me, I couldn't remember the artist. After 36 hrs, I finally found out who it was, and great to hear it again. Fab song to be covered now, by any credible artist
@coggie42 It is indeed true. Not sure who Geordiegirl is in real life but she has the story right so therefore must know me. Thanks for the comment @coggie42
What a heart wrencher ... ... ... This was out when my husband of 27 years (Boyfriend at the time) was in the Falklands Conflict, 1982 when he had been deployment for 6 months & was recalled from leave to sail to the Falklands, where he spent 3 months! This song would be given justice to by the group The Soldiers, whom I love!
OMG i have been looking for this for so long, my sister had this single....and had the song in my head, especially when my hubby has been on deployment :'( Thanks so much for uploading :D
There have been a few soppy sentimental songs that I remember from my youth but that's just what they were and they sound awful now. I'm so pleased to have found this. Yes its sentimental but why isn't it a classic?
So you're the one to blame for all these tears I've shed. More than a year after this was in the charts, my then fiancee was away. She'd told about this song, and I bought the single without having heard it (this was early October 1983). Then I made a BIG mistake. I played the damn thing, and within 15 seconds tears were streaming down my face. They have again, but not as they did back then.
We've been married nearly 27 years, but I still can't hear this song and stay rational.
THIS SONG WOULD BE A FANTASTIC SONG FOR THE SOLDIERS TO SING FOR THE TROOPS IN AFGHANISTAN AS IT WAS RELEASED AROUND THE TIME OF THE FALKLANDS WAR IN 1982
A gem I'm happy to have discovered in recent times. Despite being a Top Twenty Hit, this song is largely forgotten by the radio stations and 1980s compilation albums, which is a real shame.
I so enjoyed this song back in 1982, and still do now. Any chance of making this available on iTunes? Thanks for writing this song, and posting this video.
I heard Zoe Ball play it as well. Couldn't find it on iTunes.

It's a classic, even after all these years I still find it difficult to listen to without getting a lump in my throat.

This song may be 30 years old, but it is timeless. One of my all-time favourites, a true classic - so many memories!

Very catchy tune. I particularly like it at 3.01 when the drum beat starts.
