  • I heard Zoe Ball play it as well. Couldn't find it on iTunes.

  • Fantastic song. Just heard Zoe Ball play it on Radio 2...first time i'd heard it for years :-)

  • It's a classic, even after all these years I still find it difficult to listen to without getting a lump in my throat.

  • I seem to remember this sone being the unofficial anthem of the Falklands War.

  • this song goes out to my first love carrie xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • This song may be 30 years old, but it is timeless. One of my all-time favourites, a true classic - so many memories!

  • omg,

i remember this tune way back in my secondary school disco (1981, poss82), and dancing with a girl i fancied so much. the dj played this and i remember my old school mates looking at amazement as i was dancing with this girl.

thanks for uploading the video and giving me the chance to re-live my school boy memory. :-)

  • Wow,ive not heard this song since it was in the charts.I always loved it and still do x

  • Brilliant song, I loved it the first time I heard it. Heart wrencher is the correct label for this, well said Concordeoo

  • @kkapalk1 thank you - didn't mean to wrench you heart

  • aw thank god! it's been drivin' me nuts who it was - went through Korgis, Vangelis...but here it is.

  • Men are sweet, language is sweet, and homes are sweet. It fulfils all aspirations by convention.

  • For some reason I got this into my head y'day, and I remembered buying it in early eighties but for the life of me, I couldn't remember the artist. After 36 hrs, I finally found out who it was, and great to hear it again. Fab song to be covered now, by any credible artist

  • @junefarq

Thanks for buying this in 82, you helped pay for my first house in Whitley Bay. How can I repay you?

  • I always loved this song...

  • @MalcNedd62

  • What a heart wrencher ... ... ... This was out when my husband of 27 years (Boyfriend at the time) was in the Falklands Conflict, 1982 when he had been deployment for 6 months & was recalled from leave to sail to the Falklands, where he spent 3 months! This song would be given justice to by the group The Soldiers, whom I love!

  • @concordeoo1

    Thanks for your comment

  • OMG i have been looking for this for so long, my sister had this single....and had the song in my head, especially when my hubby has been on deployment :'( Thanks so much for uploading :D

  • There have been a few soppy sentimental songs that I remember from my youth but that's just what they were and they sound awful now. I'm so pleased to have found this. Yes its sentimental but why isn't it a classic?

  • @spoonfulofdreams

    thanks for the comment

If you think it's a classic then it is a classic.

  • So you're the one to blame for all these tears I've shed. More than a year after this was in the charts, my then fiancee was away. She'd told about this song, and I bought the single without having heard it (this was early October 1983). Then I made a BIG mistake. I played the damn thing, and within 15 seconds tears were streaming down my face. They have again, but not as they did back then.

We've been married nearly 27 years, but I still can't hear this song and stay rational.

  • @cbak12sg

sorry for causing your tears. Hope I also brought a little joy.

    Steve T

  • Very catchy tune. I particularly like it at 3.01 when the drum beat starts.

  • I loved this song when I was a little girl (born in '78). I was the only one in my family who remembered it for all these years.Still love it now.

  • THIS SONG WOULD BE A FANTASTIC SONG FOR THE SOLDIERS TO SING FOR THE TROOPS IN AFGHANISTAN AS IT WAS RELEASED AROUND THE TIME OF THE FALKLANDS WAR IN 1982

  • @MAYBOTTO You are right. This would be a great one for the troops and the families left behind - a real tear jerker.

  • A great song with tight harmonies!

  • Thanks for putting this out there - Its been my favorite song for 26 years and I could nevber find out who sang the dang thing!

  • thank god ive found this song been looking for it for years

  • haha the guy on the piano is my dad. Remember (vaguely) watching this on TOTPS when I was a nipper.

  • A gem I'm happy to have discovered in recent times. Despite being a Top Twenty Hit, this song is largely forgotten by the radio stations and 1980s compilation albums, which is a real shame.

  • great song like so many great tunes from the 70s and early 80s almost forgotten today.

  • if only i could go back to 1982 again everything was so nice then compared to now

  • I so enjoyed this song back in 1982, and still do now. Any chance of making this available on iTunes? Thanks for writing this song, and posting this video.
