question. which source states the mittelhau is from the hip? O.o I ive read sources that say it is like a horizontal cut from the shoulder. The middle guard beung at the shoulder also alludes to this as well. guess its a variation?
@IaMaPh1991 The sources we use, Ringeck and 44A8 (Von Danzig) do not mention mittlehau at all. I do not believe all sources describe the same way of doing things, that would be a ridiculous assumption considering they span over 2 centuries and many regions. However the sources do mention that they are for people who already know how to fence, so we should not expect such details. The mittlehau as executed is based on very practical considerations based on human anatomy and period clothing.
This is great, I'd love to see more testing with Western swords on tatami mats, to demonstrate that many of the comparatively tight cuts in WMA are just as effective as the thumping great thwacks you see untrained users make.
Very good work. Iam fencing also the deutsche Schule and your cuts are very impressive. Good example for showing that western martial arts are no clumsy hack n slash actions. thank you for your vid.
@adityanaikdesai I'm agree with you. At the first half of video it looks real (not all of it). But at the second half of video it's suck. You can see the bamboo are placed on each other. I wonder if half of the people watch this video has problem with their eyes.
@inadroit wow what a retard. so what if he placed the mats on eachother, it just shows the how good the cut is because it is a lot harder to cut if it is just standing there than if it is held down so he was actually proving his point. so no.....people dont have an eye probem, its just that your really dumb!!
@jizburg am i missing something??? its quite evident if you look clearly that the bamboo pieces are placed on top of each other before he strikes. in one instance a piece falls in a direction opposite to the direction hes hitting, AND breaks off well above where he makes an impact.
@adityanaikdesai In the interest of education...first, they are not bamboo, they are tatami. Second, what you are seeing are me putting tatami pieces on top of an already severed mat and cutting them. This is a lot harder than cutting a full mat because the pieces are free standing. But again, if you want to think it is fake, great! Honestly, I can't think of a better compliment than someone who thinks this cutting is so good (it's actually just okay) that it has to be fake. Thanks! :)
@adityanaikdesai Yes he it REUSING bamboo mats.. i have done it myself because it is a pain roiling those.. you put them on eachother and hit the one on the top.. it does not mean that he tries to fool you that he cut it twise in one go.....

Ignore the twelve-year old trolls. Those are some well-executed cuts. They look nice and relaxed.

It is a bit hard to se in the video for me, do you strike with the "false/short" or the "true/long" edge in your krumphau ?
skink84 3 months ago
@skink84 long edge from the right, short edge from the left. I don't think I do a left krumphau in this vid though.

There are a lot of cutting tests on youtube, but you show good control and posture. Grandmaster Liechtenauer would be pleased.
