thank youu ur so kind i wish you could be my teacher your body wave s fantastic.do you think that i will sooner or later learn basic steps?i luv ur hips movement
why the fucking hell im not able to coordinate my movement?maybe i have to try again and again because when i sart slow and then i become faster i can't keep up the pace im so demoralized
@coccoealessia try practicing the move with a metronome - you can find them free online.- instead of music. that way your body is learning to keep the beat .
Nice but one should never teach students to move the hips by using the legs. The hips don't move because the knees move, knees move because hips are. Use the glut muscles, not legs. Technique will be compromised, otherwise. Constructive criticism, no harm meant. Otherwise, very nice!
@Helena1318 there are some old school teachers that use "pumping action" from the knees. it is not wrong, it is just different. i have personally changed my style to protect my knees. but this is the way i was taught by numerous teachers and they are still dancing today with no problems.
I knew there had to be a secret to layering shimmies!!! Thanks soooo much!! Please give us more, you are my favorite you tube instructor. Do you have DVD lessons for sale? You are awsome!
it really depends on what kind of shimmy you are shooting for - it is perfectly acceptable to use just the knees for a soft shimmy, use the gluts (butt muscle) for a more intense one, involve the quads (front of the thighs) butt and knees for a bigger shimmy, allow a bounce to the heel to the super intense shimmy. its all about layering and what you desire the final look to be.
Yes, I agree but what she is teaching here is just a basic shimmy. Nothing special with any layering, she is just teaching the shimmy. You can do a shimmy with the knees alone, but it is not the most desired shimmy since it will wear your knees out. You should always start with the glutes and then add on from there, she started with the knees.
thanks for all your videos!!! i think your body is perfect for this kinda thing.. i wish i could do this stuff as well. lol. maybe someday. hey, i wonder if maybe you would ever consider posting a full dance sequence for any well-known song. that would be fun to learn!!! thanks again. mwah!
see that's what is wrong with the dance, looking at other dances instead of this one. this is bellydance not ballerinas. just keep you back straight. chest lifted and pointed toes i don't ever see on old bellydancers. maybe u should depend on the geezers instead of the newbies.
but doesn't lifting the chest while doing advanced hip movements or layering shimmies help by "releasing" the hips a bit???...at times i find lifting my chest helps me isolate movements better...for example, when I'm trying to shimmy my hips while doing a chest undulation (chest roll/upperbody undulation) if I don't lift my chest I feel compacted and can't get the 2 individual moves to work...PLEASE ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME :D
i just see why you have to lift up your chest. wouldn't that just make it harder to lift like that? i think bellydance should go with your body not away from it.
personally, i think if you dont lift your chest/elongate your spine - you will appear slouched and sloppy as a dancer. Look at ballet dancers - the poise comes from standing tall, chest lifted.
I'm trying to think of the best way to break it down - here is a hint it involves the oblique muscles (the ones on the side) not the rectus abdominus (the one down the middle)
i can tell you arent middle eastern which i am. how ever i do think your doing a great job. You should also suggest that they place their hands on their hips while learning that way they can get a feel on how they hips are moving.
Wow, these little tutorials of yours really help. I feel like I'm going to go into my next lesson with a better idea of what's going on. Cute top, too! Where do you get your dance clothes from? I'm having some trouble finding some cute ones.
its great that you put up all these instruction videos..but i suggest u take some more belly dance classes before you offer out lessons..and the shimmy movement should originate more from the hips rather than your knees
Kudos to you for posting all these instructional videos, and helping beginners learn all these various movements.
And also emphasizing the importance of listening to the rhythm and the music and match your movements accordingly. That is what makes a dancer truly great.
I agree with you oshearz, there is no need to compare with Didem, ofcourse she is very good but she doesnt teach but dance. So watching Didem inspires us to learn the belly dance and this is nice place for the begginers.
Ok I just looked up Didem and OMG! She is amazing!!!! ...but kimbrgsm1 takes the time to teach people step by step and is of great help to others. Thanks kim! :)

Your knees should not be what you rely on for movement. You should be focusing on contracting you butt cheeks :)

depends on how and who you learn it from. also depends on the "type" of shimmy. there are many ways to shimmy this is just one - a basic
