This is an exact replica of the original. The real one is locked-up somewhere. It's too sacred to the interested party to have on display. Im quite sure it couldn't be seen by anyone else other than the elect class and the priesthood.
@ManelinhoAraujinho Whether it's true or not, the Jews, who created and professed the first abrahamic religion, had a better reason to abuse Babylon: Babylonia was their worst enemy on the political stage, the enemy that destroyed their temple and took thousands of Jews into captivity, thereby causing a crushing blow to the "god's chosen" people.
it is not stolen fro iraq,as Iraq was still under Osman Empireal rule, here was an Agreement that the Gate was to be brought to Berlin...because only Germany had the Financial Basement and the scientific Knowledge to rebuild and to
preserve the Gate.
When it had still been in Iraq during the last Gulf wars...where would it be now?
A smaller reproduction of the gate was built in Iraq under Saddam Hussein as the entrance to a museum that has not been completed. Damage to the reproduction gate has occurred since the Iraq war << wikipedia
I agree with the person before me. The one in Germany is THE REAL Ishtar gate and the one currently in Iraq is a replica, and as much as I would hate to say this, but yes, its good its in a museum in Germany and not being ravaged by some asshole American teenagers who think they're tough cuz they're killing civilians with their m16s
yes this is the actual gate of ishtar it got stollen by the germans from iraq and now its sitting in berlin the one in iraq musium from wat i knw is a replica. but i guess thats good that the germans took it in thier museum otherwise those bloody americans would have stolen it and sold it on black market.
A reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate and Processional Way was built at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin out of material excavated by Robert Koldewey and finished in the 1930s. It includes the inscription plaque. It stands 47 feet high and 100 feet wide (14 meters by 30 meters). The excavation ran from 1902-1914 and during that time 45 feet of the foundation of the gate was uncovered.
However, google the word "babylon"...you'll find some pictures of the original gate right there on Iraq...maybe they removed it and are now traveling with it...I read that the war is damaging alot of archiological findings.
I also know that this is not the complete thing - so, to me that means that perhaps it's one side or something that they removed and then they constructed part for the exhibit. I will note that the Pergamon (when I took this video) had a huge exhibit on treasures of Islam but now the exhibit is gone. I haven't been back to see if the gates are still there.
@calangodoido apparently hitler dug it up in iraq, there was also a chair, supposedly the devils chair which hitler usd to sit in and get his power from or so he thought, the chair is at the museum but kept out of sight.
It really is - the color is a luscious lapis lazuli blue that looks like something out of the carribean. Be sure to check out the Greek Entry way from the Pergamon temple too - this particular museum is really awesome - I think I will go back.

Now you can see why abrahamic religions speak so badly of Babylon - they were jealous.
Who wouldn't be jealous of such a beautiful and modern city (back in the days)?

uhh hi im doing a report on the ishtar gate can anyone give me info

Nebuchadnezzar built the Ishtar gates for the main entry to ancient Babylon....
it is said that he was such a perfectionist, the gates were torn down and rebuilt 5 times until he was happy with it....
it was also considered to be one of the original 7 wonders of the world but later replaced with the hanging gardens.

is this the original Ishtar gate? or is it just a replica? I think the original is stil in Babylon (which is located in Iraq,91 kms of Bagdah).

From what I understood from the brochure it was pieces of the original gates. My german, admittedly, is terrible however.
