  • The greatest hero theme song

    EVER!

  • IMO, no other actor can match Christopher Reeve's ability to play a superhero. He does an excellent job of playing dopey Clark Kent, too!

  • Creo que nunca tendremos de nuevo una escena como esta en el mundo del cine relacionada con los comics

  • too slow

  • LOL I LOVE THE WAY HE LOOKED AT THE PHONE BOOTH !!!!!!!!!

  • @TheBubbypower That was one of the best-loved gags of the movie; at the time, it was cutting-edge humor

    .

  • peanut butter all over your heart? ahhhh peanut butter :)

  • This is still an awesome heroic scene

  • STILL the best superhero movie ever made.

  • Best lines in the history of superhero movies:

Clark: "Don't worry, Miss. I've got you."

Lois: "You've got me? Who's got YOU?"

  • @UncleMikeNJ I totally agree mate! Best line ... EVER! However, Superman's first words to Lois were ''Easy Miss, I've got you''. :)

  • this is a classic movie and i think he was the best superman , watching this in the movies when i was a kid was a real treat ,now you go to the movies there is nothing but a lot of talking and cell phone ringing.... times have changed...miss the good ol day;s

  • @Lycangambi true that!

  • Say Jimm !! That's a bad outfit !! Wooh !! look at him go !!! lol Me and My parents went to see that in '79.. My parents cracked up at that part... Classic..

  • love the way he looks at the phonebox in a dig at the comic

  • Do good unto others and every man can be a Superman.

  • This is still the BEST SUPERMAN MOVIE - thank you for POSTING :) and yes there is a SUPERMAN inside each and EVERYONE of us no matter where we are in the WORLD! :)

  • superman shows up after 1:55.

  • super goody 2 shoes

  • "I can't believe it. I... I just cannot BELIEVE it! HE GOT HER!!!"

  • I remember watching this movie in a jam-packed movie house. And when this rescue scene came on, there was thunderous applause from the viewers!!! It was bedlam! Those were the days when movies were still movies!!!

  • 37 years old and I still read Superman comics. When I read, I hear Chris Reeve's voice. He is the one and only Superman

  • Brian singer is a poofter abomination that dates gay porn stars WHAT A FUCKING ABOMINATION

  • One of the best movie scenes of all time!

  • If it was'nt for Superman. Lois Lane would have been dead thousands of times!

  • On the contrary to teh statistics, WALKING is the safest way of travel

  • @doctorfeelucky Actually there are more pedestrian accidents daily, than aerial.

  • After 30 years of being on this planet, Christopher Reeve still makes me believe a man can fly~!!!

  • hi their... something wrong with the elevator! LOL

  • The only Superman ever exist in all time!

  • Christopher Reeve is the best Superman ever! On another note, does moving his arms during flight make him turn in stuff? I've always wondered that. Oh, and any one who disliked this is just a bitch.

  • @yagamijase If my calculations serve me accurately, I think he controls the pitch and yaw of each turn in flight by twinkling his little toes.

    Just doin' ma job, ma'am.

  • @yagamijase like the same way in your dreams he wills!! himself to FLY turn, bank, etc! he used his arms as pointers as you would naturally again when you dream... so your answer is he thinks it first his arms move in the desired direction after but its that fast its instantaneous

  • 1:31 Dang new-style phone booths......

  • Thanks McMaddish for cheering me up !

  • It REALLY doesn't hurt that the guy that played Superman ( C. Reeve) turned out to be one helluva good guy, too!! RIP Chris Reeve !!

  • 3:53 my first nerdgasm when i was a 8 year kid!

  • Margot Kidder was a really ugly Lois Lane

  • Easily one of the greatest scenes in movie history. It never gets old!

  • @Romeofud true!

  • I remember seeing this in the theater....audience went crazy when Superman saved Lois. Good stuff

  • Comment removed

  • @loewsmoore Same here and an epic moment to see with a theatre crowd and being a kid at the time.

  • A pesar de los años, aún sigue siendo una de mis escenas favoritas en la historia del cine... thumb up of course

  • Can't wait to see what the big 'Look! Up in the sky!" moment is going to be in 'Man of Steel'. I think we have a winner on our hands with that film.

  • Black people like to hoot.

  • "Excuse me, Jim! That's a bad out-FIT! Whoooo!" Cheesy and dated but it gets me every time. :)

  • @fredjsTV "Say Jim"...woops :)

  • 1:48 EPIC

  • You can tell that Chris was a huge guy 6'5. Routh looked little although he was 6'3 too skinny.

  • A melhor cena de todos os tempos !!!

    Superman o melhor !!!

  • The best superman scenes aren't when he did the gigantic feats saving tons of people from an humongous foe. It's when he saw a danger to a single person who thought all hope was lost and saved them at the last possible instant.

  • That smile! That damn smile is what gets me every time! Superman is a country boy who puts people at ease. He's a people person, not like that robot that was in Superman Returns. Superman The Movie is what inspired me to start art and get into comics and Superman Returns inspired me to punch Bryan Singer in the face when I see him!

  • The first time I saw this scene as a kid I got chills of excitement. I still do. Chris Reeves IS Superman.

  • i like the scene in superman 3 were superman arrives 2 ask the fire chief how he can help n the chief says get this man A helping then sees its superman n says forget the helpin by god superman its a nightmare up there. my point is thats how familiar n comfortable people were n should be talking 2 superman not the way he was portrayed in singers returns they alienated him from people n made him peep through Lois lanes window thats not the superman i remember! THEY HAD NO RESPECT FOR CHRIS REEVE

  • Christopher reeve is superman, no one can fill his boots!

  • Superman has made a great impact in my life, i look up to him as role model when I didn't have a father in my life, he is the reason why I'm the man I'm am today trying to do good in this cold world, THANK U MAN OF STEEL!!!!

  • @bigrule28 I have the same feeling...

  • @bigrule28 i remember having a dream that i was flying and in the dream i remember thinking about how Christopher reeve flew as superman i copied his moves and low and behold i was doing it with a little skill so in a way i can say thanks to superman aka Chris Reeve that i know how to fly properly in my dreams LOL

  • "I...I. can't believe it..I just..I just cannot believe it..he got her" she doesn't sound like she means it at all...

  • Oh shit!, in this totally fucked up Planet, we REALLY need a Superman, where are YOU Superman....

  • absolutely brilliant! i was brought up on a diet of superman comics, christopher reeve is superman, he is my boyhood hero. thank you christopher, and, god rest you.

  • 1:30 he was like "oh sh*t!" xD

  • La mejor escena :D me pone e púnta

  • Say Jim ! That's a BAAAD outfit!!! Classic !!

  • @davisgreen2020

    You forgot the Wooooo! Wooooooo!

  • @jrag1000 Haha ! Yes of course! :P

  • @dd271828

"silly", my ass. He is the greatest superhero of all time

  • @pmack169 I have known a few personally; Firemen for one and US Coast Guardsmen. However I do not view the S.O.G. types as heroes as apparently as you do. However;..you've kind of broken track from the discussion at hand anyway; which is this Superman scene. I'll leave you to your own ideology on the subject and simply mark it down as different takes on a given subject. Have a nice day.

  • Does anyone ever notice that the old amn with the white hair looks like an older superman......Best sence in movie history, this was in the 70's and bandon in the year 2006, now you tell me which movie has a better cloth changing sence????? Actually superman 2 as a great sence when he runs through the ally and changes his clothes...2006 DROPS THEN IN AN ELEVATOR...COME ON MAN ....LOL

  • Wait! Whoooo are yoooooou???

Just your friendly neighborhood SpiderMan! Byeeeeee!

  • @pmack169 We know very little about life on other planets or what they look like or how living in our environment would affect them; so I wont enter a debate on a subject that no one on Earth (least I am aware of) is an authority. But there is a huge difference in learning to fight well, building a personal, and doing what Batman does. I am sorry but you still failed to have produced enough ground to make Batman even remotely plausible. The bottom line here is just enjoy it for what it is.

  • @pmack169 Still not very realistic because such a person trying to be Batman would draw too much attention to himself from every law enforcement agency in high government. He would be shut down before he got to stage no.2! The kind of equipment he uses has to come through high end top secret military development; and the government is very strict about such equipment coming into civilian hands; so sorry your Batman Fantasy has already crashed and burned already before it got started.

  • @pmack169 That still doesn't answer the question; how is he more realistic than Superman? Also in Batman itself the question arises; about actions speaking about a persons character;...what they do. Clark didn't have the good fortune of a blessed childhood with his real parents like Bruce did; his entire home world was blown to hell along with parents he never got to share love with at all. Despite that; Clark grew strong on the inside; finding inner strength that would match the outer.

  • He made us believe a man could fly

  • Perfect. Just perfect.

  • we are all superman...just without super power lol

  • Christopher reeves was made to play superman, dah dah dah. Nobody compares... RATADA!

  • Sometimes I wish Supermans theme was the American national anthem just so I could hear it played all the time at games etc. Awesome!

  • "Say! Jim! That's a bad . . Outfit. . . Whoa!"

  • I agree, I get goosbumps wen I hear the superman theme, best theme ever

  • The music when he catches the helicopter in mid-air is beautiful :)

  • "You've got me,who's got you?"

    What a classic !!!

  • I love the way he looks at Lois at 2:47 :) :) :)

  • That smile at 3.29 always gets me - Christopher Reeve - you are the one and truly only superman. RIP Legend

  • This scene, the Fortress of Solitude scene where Clark come gliding out of the Fortress in the classic costume, & the opening scene on Krypton, shape the original Superman.

  • this is way old but it still gives me major goosebumps...christopher reeve is the true man of steel!

  • Thank god we've grown up at least just a little bit from these stereotypes. Lois Lane is sassy, but I'm tired of seeing the whole damsel in distress thing.

  • 2 people do not get goosebumps

  • in real life there is no Superman...if you want to jump off the building...be my guest you're on your ownwheter.intensiaonlly or accidentally

  • "youve got me who'ves got you?" LMAO

  • Superman is Lois's guardian angel.just in time?too close to call, whew!

  • "You've got me?! Who's got you?!" love it! XD

  • ALSO FYI chris reeve invented his "style" of flying, by switching hands around corners, bending knees for slowing down, arms at side when going fast, etc. True method actor!

  • @littlecarrey Dont forget clenching his fists for super speed while flying too! ;) It's all Chris Reeve!

  • now THATS a superman! No one will ever do better than Chris!!! RIP BROTHA!

  • superman just silly

  • This scene gave me goose bumps as a little kid in the audience of the cinema when it came out way back then and it still gives me goose bumps here on youtube years later. Inspirational!

  • I saw this movie with my family at the theater when it first came out. Cars were backed up outside the lot trying to get in. There was a line half a football field long waiting to get tickets. They had to use all 3 projectors to satisfy the demand and people leaving the show were going back to the end of the line to see it again;...crazy! We knew this was a special movie! From the opening credits with the incredibly powerful soundtrack to this scene which people stood up and applauded!!!

  • This is undoubtedly one of the best scenes in any movie, ever!

  • GOOEY SAYING BUT VERY WELL SAID

  • "....thats a bad outfit!! whoo!!"

  • The great thing about this scene is the anticipation of Kent changing into Superman. You know you're about to get your first clear look at Superman in action and that it's going to be AWESOME!

I wonder how many people see this today and don't get why Clark gives the payphone that funny look. A lot of younger viewers may not have ever seen any kind of payphone, much less an actual phone booth.

  • @jksonny In superman 3 uses a photo booth almost got caught and gave the superman pic to the kid lol the rest he kept thought that was funny.

  • @jksonny Anyone who don't remember the old phone booths can watch Doctor Who's TARDIS. :)

  • @jksonny Yep. Its because the back in the day super man used the pay phone booth that you could actually go inside and seal yourself in. Its rare nowadays to even SEE a public phone.

  • You want to know why "Superman: The Movie" is the greatest superhero film ever? It's because of this scene. No other film has before or since have displayed the essence of the superhero character quite like this scene.

  • @w00master: Uh,have you ever heard of a certain movie called Spider-Man, and the scene that was similar to this one? Or Batman Begins and the scene that showed how Batman establishes himself?

  • The best scene in the best superhero movie ever!

  • i can't believe i believed this fairy tale stuff as a kid! wtf!

  • LOL @ 1:54

  • that line he said about flying being the safest way of traveling, I just noticed Brandon said the same in Superman Returns... oh well.

  • This looks like a job for Superman!

  • This single scene is better than any movie made in the last ten years. This is the heart and soul of Superman...delivered only as Richard Donner could.

  • @jimmytkirk well said

  • My Dad took me to see this when I was 5... (Now have 2 Superman tattoos!) ; )

  • What amazed me, and they said this too in the documentary, is the chris reeve looked natural when doing the wire work, like he could really fly..it still amazes me.

  • THATS A BAD OUTFIT !!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!

  • john wiliams music to the film was just fantastic

  • 2:40 excelent!!!!

  • SAY JIM! WHOO! THATS BAAAD OUT-FIT! WHOO!

  • @dublinfool25 thats where ric flair, the pro wrestler got hsi WOooooo from. Rics own words.

  • @22centman36 Im a huge Flair mark and i never knew that..thanks for the heads up!

  • why did he look at the phone booth this way? hahahah!

  • Chris always be Superman..............

  • Aaawqa

  • Just watched the airplane clip in Superman Returns. Superman: The Movie is my all time favorite for a reason.

  • Simply the best EVER!!!!

  • This hero scene was so awesome that decades later Spider-Man and Optimus Prime HAD to use it in their films.

Go Superman! Go Christopher Reeve! Go FORWARD!

  • youve gotta love the Pimp!!!!! Thumbs up of youre lovin the Pimp

  • @stephandnatali That's a BAAAAD OUTFIT!

  • I was about 10 years old when I saw this. It was one of the most exciting movie moments for me in my entire life. It was almost like remembering something as significant as 9/11 - it was a moment in my life I will never forget....

  • "SAY, JIM, THAT'S ONE BAAAAAD OUTFIT."

    "Excuse me."

    I love Superman.

  • My fave movie scene of all time

  • RIP Christopher Reeve. The ONE THE ONLY SUPERMAN! FUTURE GENERATIONS NEED TO SEE THIS.

  • Saw this in the movie theater as a 3 year old kid. Gave me chills then, still does to this day. Perfectly cast and directed. I remember everyone cheering loudly when he changed for the first time. Only cheering in a movie I remember being as loud was when I went to see Rocky IV and Rocky hit Drago and finally cut him. Sheer pandemonium!

  • The ending part of this scene I mean!lol

  • I always loved this scene. It's hard to tell exactly what he actually did in this shot because the camera turns with him as he does a barrel role. Awesome photography! It's an illusion Hes actually upside down at first. If you look in the background as superman comes into the picture the city is at the top of the screen. Then as he does his role upside down he's really right side up. Then the hole camera turns with him. this shot is Money!

  • I always loved this scene. It's hard to tell exactly what he actually did in this shot because the camera turns with him as he does a barrel role. Awesome photography!

  • Classic superman scene, brings chills

  • @TheRazorx89

Damn right - they can make as many different versions as they like, they'll never top this film.

  • Good thing Lois always screams so much. Superman can always hear her.

  • Lois and helicopters

  • The way the suspense of this scene is built up is what makes it so awesome. Terrific directing and editing right here and, of course, the Williams' theme is so perfect.

  • Great movie

  • This scene is noisy.

  • Comment removed

  • Best scene of any super hero movie ever made, in my opinion. The music alone is impossibly perfect, and Christopher Reeve will always be Superman.

    "Easy miss, I've got you"

"You've got me... who's got you?"

    Fickin' perfect.

  • 1;57,,,, so great I can never beat it!!! brings tears to my eyes

  • this has to be my favourite scene in all of cinema. perfect.

  • This film needs to be re-released in theaters.

  • Thumbs up if you believe Zack Snyder is gonna destroy Superman in his movie~!!!

  • nobody can out do what christopher reeve did, he IS superman

  • This is more realistic than most versions of Superman. He's the worlds strongest man. A woman and a helicopter shouldn't be hard for him

  • Best part is when he comes out of the revolving doors and the guy stops him and he just says, "Excuse me." and flies away. Too funny.

  • LOL the look he gives the phone booth is hillarious!

  • @MenollytheBeagle LMAO he's like 'hmm not quite like the comics"

  • @MenollytheBeagle I was at the premiere of Superman in my hometown. When the camera cuts to the phone booth, you could hear people groan in the audience. The guy behind me said "You gotta be kidding!" The camera pulled back, revealing the kiosk, and Clark's expression, and the audience roared (Didn't see that coming!) Moments later, when Superman takes flight to rescue Lois, the place exploded with applause. No one wanted a campy Superman, they wanted a hero. And they got it!

  • @berserkley Great post, man. I would have killed to have been in that audience.

How did everyone react at the end of the film when Superman flies off into the sunrise?

  • @LedWhisky69 Major applause! Reeve's smile to the camera (his idea) was classic! By far, the best audience movie experience I've ever had.

  • @berserkley No doubt. That's awesome. The only Superman film I got to see in the theater was Superman Returns which was a great time. There were lot of oohs and aahs during the opening sequence (mostly because they finally restored the classic STM opening sequence) and everyone stood up and clapped at the end of the film. That was such a great moment for me and, I think, my best experience in a theater. Superman just has the effect on people. We crave a true hero in our lives.

  • @LedWhisky69 Totally agree. And if you ever get the chance to see the original Superman in the theater, do so.

  • @berserkley

Do you know if there is anywhere I could go in Britain to see this film in the cinema?

i tried Electric cinema in Birmingham, but they don't seem interested in playing it.

  • @MenollytheBeagle It wasn't a phone booth. But it was SUPPOSED to be a phone booth. Where else would Clark Kent change into Superman? ;)

  • This will always be the best Superman film ever made simply because the flying scenes look so real...It also has that classic 1970s feel.

  • @jghatora1 :-) Better than "Superman Returns" though it was a valiant attempt by by director Bryan Singer and Brandon South as the Man of Steel, perhaps even better than Chris Nolan's reboot "The Man of Steel" to be released for Dec 2012!!!!!!

  • SUPERMAN is the best superhero because no problem too big or too small can't stop superman. SUPERMAN ROCKS take that and shove it batman and marvel. :D

  • @MrHoppers002 batman is more realistic
