Well PIA is one of the airlines that has crashed the has the least crash to fleet ratio in the world. I was also talking with Imran Khan last year and Imran also mentioned to me that although Pia's fancy reputation was gone which it gained in the 80's, it still has one of the best pilots in the world. And "fancy reputation" I mean that during the 80's, PIA was considered the second best airlines to travel on, such as Lufthansa or emirates today. But due to poor management, that ended.

PIA does not come to chicago anymore. I am going to PAK this summer 2010 but i had to book ehtihad because PIA doesnt come to my city any more. Going to Pakistan jsut wont be the same experience without PIA. =(

Mashallah. PIA definitely has some of the best pilots. They have a very safe record and inshallah it will stay that way. Anytime I travel between the US and Pakistan I only use PIA.

@abuzarmohammad PIA & Indian Airlines are both similar in quality and other aspects. Ofcourse every airline is under the list of the total of world airlines. You can't call anyone as ONE OF THE BEST and start boasting or anything. The Phrase One of the BEST can be rightly applied for "Singapore Airlines" or "Emirates" or "Lufthansa" or "Etihad" also to some extent. PIA & Air India are way below :P

Actually Pakistan supplies engine components to Boeing for the 777s. As you know Boeing relies on collecting components to construct it's plane and Pakistan is one of the supplies. :) plus where would the plane fly without it's Pakistani pilots?

You're missing the point but Pakistan is able to supply Boeing because it is good at COPYING US technology ie reverse engineering. Obviously these components are produced at a fraction of the cost therefore Boeing has taken the initiative to order these US origin components from Pakistan and save costs.

They dont make the components themselves. So if anything Boeing would collapse since they dont have money to both produce planes & components.

It's a well known fact that any technology that comes from Pakistan, has been ripped off from someone else's original idea. yhe engine with the hydraulic systems.

It reduces fuel burn because the wings dont have to work as hard to lift the aircraft since winglets improve lift...and yes they reduce drag also as winglets stop the airflow over the top of the wing from slipping off the end and spiraling into a vortex which increases drag....so yeah winglets reduce fuel burn and reduce drag!!

Winglets stop the airflow over the wing from 'bleeding' over the edge....in effect, the winglets keep a strong flow of air rushing over the wing and maximises lift....without the winglets, the airflow would slip off the end of the wings and not be as strong...

Beautiful takeoff by a beautiful giant. The 747 IMO is more amazing to watch in flight than the A380 simply because of how much better looking it is. Sadly, with the way things are looking now the 747s may mostly be retired 20 to 30 years from now.
