What lens did you used man? I couldn't figure it out. I looked roughly at 10 different videos on flash portrait photography and your work is the best I saw! I'm a beginner and I want to work my way up too having a personal studio. i love portraits and fashion shots.
I started on Nikon and I don't know what to do know. What do you recommand me?
I want industry level quality in the future.
thanks and keep it going!!!! P.S. When did you started your photography and then your business with it?
those colors on the background are just terrible :/...im sorry. I like the lighting tips but the styling and pos production is so amateur :S dont meen to be rude.. but as i said, The lighting tips are ok :)
Who is this a tutorial for? We are watching a guy learn to shoot girls wearing theatrical make-up, which is cool, but what makes him think he's ready to teach?
Dude, lay off of the youtube and work on your portfolio. really
@AV84USA what is the point of ripping on him when he produces quality work. Why wouldn't he want to show it off. The tutorial showcases how he lights his subjects based on the model's features. It even says lighting tutorial in the title! How are you confused!
go with the expo disc for manual white balance ....you will see a difference i promise ....the lighting is great ...bravo ....the photographers that wont share there secrets are full of themselves....you are the man ...keep up the great work
Really nice video, but I was wondering, in some of the images I can see that the models have some sort or glow around them in the background, is that done in post processing, or with the lights during the shoot?
hey love it man I didn't go to school for photography and don't plan on but I really have a passion for it! just too expenssive but I was wondering if u can do one on a whole studio Set up? just really basic but detailed like wats necessary: lighting, camera(lens etc.), computer program well u know what i mean..just wondering Thanks
Hey Neo the tone is done with filters on the lights. It's kinda my secret recipe so I can't tell you exactly how I do it but it is in camera if that helps. Just experiment and you'll figure it out eventually.
Hey Adam great vid love your work. Is that a strip box (that you point out as your kicker) or a soft box. and if it is a strip box, would is the main purpose for it.? or is it just to give a little kiss of light as i didn't really see it in the vid thanks keep up the great work. The new vid also rocks
Yeah it's a strip box I used it in some of the shots and in others I didn't. Basically yeah a little kiss of light to help create seperation from the background. Thanks I appreciate it.
This is great stuff man... I learn so much. I own ABs and they are great. Thanks for the Vids. Your work is awesome. ABs should sponsor your work so we can see more of it.
Great video and images. I have 1 question about the light coming from the octobox. I see you have the model light on and every time you shoot it goes off then recyles back on. Are you using the model light as the light for the shot?
Hey Shrinker I'm actually using a combination of both 800's on the back two lights, ambient fill from above with the T8 fluorescent (I know weird) , and B1600 as the main. I use to use elinchrom heads but recently started using these as they are alot more durable and Paul C Buff backs his stuff up if it gets broken. I think the light given from these is about 90% as good but is about 300% less so that was the main reason for the switch.
Thanks, Adam. After seeing your recent work, I think I'm pretty much sold on ABs. 90% as good as Elinchrom is good enough for me, especially given the price difference and PCB's outstanding customer service.
Keep up the good work, and if you ever come to the Northeast, let me know. (I don't have Facebook right now, alas.)
Good for you Shrinker you wont regret it! AB's don't do a good job they do a GREAT job. I just did another photoshoot for Aveda that I did video for using AB's. I'll put it up in a couple weeks. Let me know how they work out for you my friend. I'm trying to get AB to sponsor some of my videos so I can do more. Production costs on video kill my shoot profit. That's why I don't do them to often.
Wow, great video! Love how you explain the lighting and how you adapt it to the model. I agree with your point that many photogs forget to take the model into account, setting up a lighting style they like no matter what comes, not giving it another thought.
Thanks for all your nice comments guys I hope you enjoy. I think I will do another based on the feedback I've been getting so far. I'd love to shoot with you in Florida CStampar hit me up on facebook and if I'm in the area shooting I'll invite you to the shoot.

the modeling light is only used to help 1. focusing, 2. to show where the light is going to fall on subject.
