  • Guess he can't add spin =(

  • Awesome

  • To forever alone guys.

  • Skynet is making progress :)

  • I would love to see two PR2 playing (:

  • you guys should do a little competition to see if the robot could beat someone in a competition...

  • you cant let a ginger play lol

  • at the end..the robot is like

    :'u suck!'

  • SPARE TIME?

  • a bit confused here:

Are you saying the bot made complex shots instead of preffering simpler ones?

  • @MaxWyght no, theyre just saying it made some difficult shots in general.

  • Robo pool shark.

  • 1:20 that robot had his troll face on.

  • Nice work. Keep it up

  • Can it wank me off?

  • from "locating the table" to long/difficult shots in a week, not bad!!!

  • For just $400,000 you can get your own PR2 here:

    willowgarage (dot_ com/pages/pr2/order

    Complete with:

    - Sensor suite (mono-stereo with texture projector, wide field of view color stereo, 5MP camera, tilting LIDAR, base LIDAR, IMU, pan/tilt platform, forearm cameras, gripper tip sensors)

    - 2 x onboard Xeon servers (each server: 8 cores i7, 24GB RAM, 2TB disk)

    - Full system Gigabit Ethernet network with 32GB backplane switch

  • can it smoke weed?

  • Great guys... really cool... why professors here in brazil don't let us built beer experts or pool players robots.. hahah

    Realy cool stuff..

  • thats just brilliant! like the science behind it...."simple" games offer very complex tasks

  • now you should try to make one that does haircuts.

  • I literally clapped at the last shot in the vid. CLO?

  • A pool-playing, beer-fetching robot. Get it to scratch its own crotch and fight people for no good reason and you've built the world's first artificial redneck. :D

  • this robot is the future

    Venus Project!!!

  • Fucking badass.

  • awesome! i've always wondered how good a computer would be at that. - open source ftw!

  • You guys better make sure not to piss him off!!!

  • they make it seem very easy, but Ive programmed simpe tasks on a robot and it takes lines and lines of code...this must of took forever to write....

  • @davis254032 Actually they only spent a week writing the software for this application! This was made possible by ROS: ros.org

  • you guys rule

  • That robot is awesome.

  • Okay, so you should take this to the next level and do the Deep-Blue type thing and make it good enough to beat Mika Immonen or Allison Fisher!

  • He hustles pool tables and is fond of beer. You guys should rename him Bender!

  • They're obviously doing this to keep the otherwise murderous robot entertained.

  • It wouldnt make sense if the robot couldnt make decisions on its own hand :)

  • damn , thats very cool !! wow , someday i will do something like with this with my PIC16f84 :) LOL

  • I don't know if it would help if the cameras would be straight above of the cue or if the cue could be moved below its "eyes". Maybe some of the miscued shots could be eliminated that way as well as more accuracy gained on long shots.

  • Awesome!

  • i for one welcome our new billiard hustling robot overlords

  • he are large nerds !

  • its like a pool shark hustling Bender lol

  • wow this dude sound SOO excited

  • Слава роботам!

  • @whynostop I like how your completely blind. The guy they are clapping for MISSED every shot he took. The clapping is obviously meant to be sarcastic.

  • @shahared1 He's talking about them clapping when the PR2 makes a shot. I think that what he doesn't get is that they're not saying "well done robot!" they are saying "well done programmers!"

  • Люди радуются, а роботу пофиг))

  • This is very impressive. The bridge on the wrist was a great idea and I can't imagine how detailed everything was in this project. Nice work.

  • ...or include the arm model & put the noise there.

  • How does it choose its shots? Seems like doing Monte Carlo sims right to the end of the game would work well. With a dash of gaussian noise for the white ball.

  • 1:47 powershot - FAIL!

  • Just need Pool-Robo to speed it up a bit!

At that rate 1 game will take all week!

  • their clapping for teh robot

  • Well that might be a big step , but I really want to see the robot cheer

  • I know a hustler when I see one.

  • I know a hustler when I see one.

  • i for one welcome our new billiard shark overlords

  • NICE PROGRAMING

  • final we can pLAY GAME OF POOL WITH STEVEN HACKING

  • Very impressive programming. Click here to see robot programmed to dance like an elderly man (actually contolled by an elderly woman). 2.49

  • they will take over the world and make us their slaves !

and than there still are the robots...

  • @alideutscher it's not Skynet or the Terminator. This is Johnny 5.

It even looks a bit like Johnny 5.

  • This is pretty cool. I can see this machine being really accurate with a lot of tweaking.

  • wooooh!!! how long till these robots become the ultimate pool gods

  • these freakers will invent skynet !!!

  • you have forget to programe him to say thanks when he haire the aplodicements

  • Now, can it think 3, 4, 5 shots ahead, as is necessary in competitive pool? Also, can it know when it is better to NOT make a shot, and to try to snooker the other player instead? Lastly, what about English, follow, and backspin?

  • id knock its head off with a baseball bat for fun

  • You will never be able to program the robot for all of the possibilities of deflection for position play.

  • now thats some engineering! well done guys!

  • amazing vid. great work !

  • amazing, but why would you a want a robot that plays pool?

  • is the robot controlled by a human or can it make decisions on its own cuz that makes a big difference

  • @IUdude45 obviously controlled by humans if you listen to the video....

  • @IUdude45 The robot is making its own decisions

  • @IUdude45 i thnk it`s a mix.

  • This is cool but how is it useful? Just Asking.

  • Impessive!

  • blah, blah, blah. Tell that guy to shut up and show the robot.

  • 2:21 you can see how the milk morphs intro a giraffe

  • Speaker playing on the back of the robot: "I'm a hustler. Imma -Imma hustler, homie"

  • wow, that's amazing!

  • Thats around 4Hrs per game, ha? Not so entertaining to be honest!

Get it to speed a bit and keep up the wonderful job.

  • PUTA

  • 1st of all, congrats, very cool :D

2nd, all you need now is to find someone who can actually play pool :D (just joking)

  • what where is the code available???

    best regards

  • Actually there is a robot called TOPIO it plays table tennis and its last version is really playing it well, PR2 reminded me him....

  • PR-J my ass i beat the shit out of this robot,,,,,i think

  • this is impressive but you could create something more usefull....

  • kinda prefer the lego printer :D

  • Comment removed

  • 1:25 Is that Jerry Springer on the right?

  • you people are geniuses! great work!

oh, and don't forget to invent some EMP bombs so that one day when the robots revolt, we can deal with them

  • What is shadow hand?? It sound's cool

  • @zerackid You can google for "Shadow Robot". The one we have a motor-based, human-like hand.

  • @zerackid

I use my shadow hand on a nightly basis : D

  • @hndrk lol i bet it wouldn't

  • next step is for the PR2 to overthrow is soft fleshy masters.

  • Bravo =)

  • robots r gonna take over the world! D: well heck i play pool almost every day and it could beat me haha

  • hax0r sees the movies before he does em

  • in soviet russia pool plays robot

  • Way to go, that's really cool!

  • well done guys, this is awesome!

  • still better than most humans =) keep up the great work

  • holy crap, that is just genious.

  • Hey, could you guys make one of those up for me to take my place at work please :D Soldering solar cells all day long can be rough, I need a breather now and then hehehehe

  • Very impressive... especially for only a week?!!

  • imagin if there was a guy in there lol. But really great job

  • it's playing pool now, next thing is that itll take that stick and kill someone

  • judgment day is close no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice work

  • Now that's totally cool!!!

  • tell that bot its got the 7

  • Japanese did it

  • Wow! :-)

  • Great job guys! lol

  • this is so cool

  • keep up the great work guys

  • Amazing robot :)

  • Open Source FTW! :D

  • These are some brilliant dudes!

  • It's fun to see the developers having such a good time when the PR2 succeeds.

  • @luisbeck007 I believe the PR2 is designed to be an open robotics platform, thats both the hardware as well as the OS and software, adding a proprietary component would defeat that.

Since the platform is open and modular another group could add the hands for research.

Cost is also an issue, the PR2 is like $10k, the Elumotion RT-1 which is only an upper body robot is around $288k. Don't know how much just the hands are but not cheap. I would prefer to see Willow Garage make their own hands.

  • @BadVoidShip the PR2 is about $400k apiece. The modular design is a great idea here, so I expect someone will put hands on one or more of these things before too long.

Congrats WG. You guys are awesome.

  • @Dirtfire We're integrating a Shadow hand as I type this

  • @WillowGaragevideo Can you make an exoskeleton for me to where and throw on some jet packs so i can laugh at the planes because i can go faster than them? I got 4 quarters.

  • Pool playing Turing Test ?

  • So awesome!

  • I love this. I hope I get to see a commercial robot before I die... Keep up the good work guys!
