  • I think Georgios is right. According to Alygizakis the Odeon recordings belong to the interwar years, that is, the late 1930s to the 1940s. Check the Kalan link in the video description above. Apologies if the title is confusing but this was the title Kalan used. I should mention again that the source of the recordings uploaded here is different to that of the Kalan CDs.

  • kani karaca ya da hafız burhan lezzeti var dilinde

  • THE voice = imagine: he's about 80 years old on this recording, and had chanted almost everyday of his life (church, school, home, lessons, etc). ONLY Iakovos' vocal placement and technique could allow maintenance of such vocal QUALITY up to his last day ... occidentals call it "nasal". It reallly ISN'T, and it's PERFERCT.... alowing CONFORT, CONTROL and vocal quality longevity...

  • @GeorgiosMICHALAKIS he can't be "about 80 years old in this recording because he died at 78 years of age.... great voice, fantastic feel for music, but let's not confuse the facts.

  • @opidacul do you actually want to make a comment concerning accuracy or do you simply wish to act smart? "ABOUT" means "APPROXIMATELY". So, 78 is "approximately 80" if one wishes to "round off" to the neares "five" or "ten". This recording was done one or two years before his death... The approximation is STILL VALID, because he is OVER 75 and CLOSER ie ABOUT 80. I'm sure you're going to spend lots of time "arguing" this one! Nevertheless, have a look at your elementary school math books.

  • @GeorgiosMICHALAKIS hahahhahah man I am not trying to be smart, I just notice that he was 78 when he died. I have no intention to argue about this!!!!! another thing that I ve seen, the recording is from Byzantine chant recording collection from 1914-1926. soooo he was not even 70 when he was recorded.

  • @opidacul I have the CDs, and I'll ask Panayiotis to check out the dates. Iakovos died around 1944. His last recordings were done using a MICROPHONE. Were there MICROPHONES availabe in 1926? My teacher (Iakovs' student) left Constatninople 1925. He had a good recollection that Iakovos' voice sounded JUST like it does in OTHER recordings, NOT THIS ONE.

  • @opidacul The ORFEON records date UP TILL 1926 (company shut down). Others were done with ODEON, between 1930 and 1940. The recordings here are those of ODEON (using a microphone). After you've cross checked all this information, and I'm sure you'll agree that he was MORE than 70, and most likely, CLOSER to 80 than to 70 in this recording.

  • @GeorgiosMICHALAKIS look man, I am NOT trying to argue not trying to be smart, I just noticed - like I said earlier - the fact he died in 1942 when he was 78 years old. the title it reads (Byzantine chant, 1914-1926), I know he recorded for orfeon between 1913-1918, (I have some of those recordings) so I presumed the title is from the same period. I also know the story of those other recordings, finally is not important what year is, only that his voice sounds like a gift from God as it is.
