@145beme I didn't study to become a photographer, but as far as getting press passes, I emailed several music blogs about being a contributor, and one did pick me up and they were the ones to originally organize getting passes.
Great tips! 100% agree with the networking part. I've made a bunch of friends doing this. Though, I'd add that once you're in, be nice to the bouncers & promoter. There have been a few times that I didn't get a pass for a show but they've let it slide.
For over 6 years I have been a concert photographer... I do it for the love of Rock metal music!!!! I got in it by going online and bought a book for 20 bucks and it taught me everything I needed to know to get into concert photography
@iainsvlog instead of actually trying to list them all, I just added a link to my flickr account in the bottom bar because it would take waaaay too long to list them. A few biggies though: Muse, Phoenix, Spoon, The National, The Decemberists.

@BTPhotography1 I just put on the flash for use in this video because I never use flash at shows anyway. And a friend was borrowing my 50mm f1.8.
And seeing that this was posted a year ago, I've upgraded since then - Canon 7D, 50mm f1.4, and 70-200mm f2.8.
