  • God the American voting process sounds like its designed to be a giant headache. Up here in Canada you get a single list and it takes 30 days and costs just over a dollar per person in the country...

  • ROFLCopter

  • It is not important but I have been many times to the West End Public Library in DC and it's not nearly like this

    .

  • All right, at 1:13 it's Marla Hooch, from "League of their Own."

    Thanks for posting this!

  • One nit-picky thing about this scene. It was supposedly at a Washington, DC polling place. DC has no Senators or Representatives, and their municipal offices are elected in off-years. So other than the non-voting Congressional "delegate", the Presidential race is the the only one on the DC ballot in Presidential election years.

  • @MegaObserver1 Josh votes in Connecticut.

  • @MegaObserver1 Well, unless Josh lives in Virginia... ;)

  • I don't know when this scene first aired, but I would have to think that this scene is the original flash mob.

  • Why do the opening credits not say The West Wing anywhere?

  • YES!!!!!

  • This was filmed at the Los Angeles Central Library.

  • if they wanted to make this scene truly authentic, someone would have come up behind josh while he was riding the escalator and yelled, 'STAND ON THE RIGHT!'

  • Vinick!!! I remembered

  • No people, the debate between the two presidential candidates was done live and the PUBLIC voted through that who they thought should become president santos or the other guy who's name escaped me!!!

  • Oh shit!!!

  • aww I was hoping this would include the "wrath of the thing from high atop the place" scene and CJ making fun of josh shortly thereafter.

  • @agentdarkboote watch?v=Y4rigI3FkwE

  • The US is the only country in developed world where its national election isn't standardized.

This is the kind of problems you run into if it's not.

  • 3:25 YES!!!!! Josh Lyman is hilarious :D

  • The television mid-Atlantic region is a lot colder than the real one. Election day is not overcoat weather in DC. And the poor Baltimore detectives in Homicide must have been sweltering under the heavy topcoats they wore in what seemed like every episode.

So why do the directors insist on the overcoats? Added gravitas?

  • @keithsmd1948 frightfully sorry, i hope i misunderstand, but...early november isn't overcoat weather in DC?? goodness, they'll be shocked when they find out. after the winter we just had, i must respectfully beg to differ.

  • Well one republican president almost killed the COUNTRY we need not mention Hollywood.

Why bring such tragedy to the small screen?

  • In the entire run of the show, the republicans ran the House and the Senate.

  • Apparently they would have given the election to Vinick if John Spencer (Leo) hadn't died; the writers thought that for Santos to lose the election and Leo would be too much.

  • I don't think Sorkin would have ever written it that way. I think he would have let Santos lose, and then show the meaning in the tragedy. He never went for the cheap win.

  • @CopyboyVideo It was actually intended for Santos to lose, but after John Spencer's death made them kill off Leo, they thought it would be too awful for him to lose his vice-presidential nominee and the presidency on the same day. So he won.

  • i must have missed this somehow, thanks for posting! note, pollworkers at my polling place a few years ago sounded like that, re getting a paper ballot, you have to ask for one before they check you in, but they check you in first thing.....

  • Can anyone tell me if that's filmed in the L.A. Downtown Public Library? Becuase I went there once, and it looks very similar to the atrium, and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light...

Great scene too - this was the first episode I ever saw! I love the West Wing now!

  • The first guy is, I think, the dude from central casting that serves Josh his subpoena for the White House drug investigation in season 1.

  • whoa. bartlett's on the ballot more than once. that sounds like it should be illegal...i mean, its sounds like the kind of thing someone could abuse

  • That would be Philadelphia politics then....

  • The ridiculous thing is that this probably happens

  • One of the show's best teasers ever. Thanks for posting this.

  • Toby messing with Josh and Josh going from pissed to pleased when the hot woman showed up. Lemon Lyman in the house!

  • LOL, great practical joke by Toby. Imagine how creative it must have been to think this one up.

  • I love love love this show...

  • i knooooooooooooooooooooow : )
