definately 4/7/85. Easter Sunday. It was very short, but, powerful 1st set. We were about 10 feet from the stage in front of Bobby. If I remember correctly, no mic in front of Phil yet. He stepped up to Bobby's mike and away we go. Followed up by a killer 1/2 step which had been out of circulation for some time. The next night was even better w/an almost never seen (in those days) 1st set explosion of Midnight Hour>Walking the Dog>Big Boss Man, which was mostly a West Coast thing.
@designknob,,im not trying to be smart or anything, but you comment on this video having absolutly nothing to do with song,..so they threw in some trippy visuals in the video...the songs only made up of a few words,,its probably not gonna happen them having a video of a couple doing it in the road...just saying, not trying to be offend anyone
Funny, I thought this was from 1985 in Philly ...like 4/6/1985....but not sure....I did a search and they did play the song on 4/7/85 and that was Philly....a Sunday night....the night they did that incredible morning dew and jerry was wearing a red shirt.
@ShuguProductions You should be sorry bro for comparing some dorky drummer that wears dresses to the grateful dead. You need to think before you speak from now on.
you dont know a shit about music, you dont know absolutely nothing about music if you say that grateful dead is crap, you are crap, you have absolutely no brain if you say something like that, i asume you have no ears or simply cant apreciate good music, good for you that at least you could spell beatles ok. fuck off. long live the deads, long live beatles.
You got some nerve you SOB. The beattle rock but the dead are just as good. Maybe nexttime you should watch wha t u say before someone gives you a Grateful dead sized kick in the ass!
why does there have to be such harsh replies from people on here!?!? Its quite sickening. And sorry that its my opinion as well as others that this show wasn't the best. Its called Dead Base, if you haven't heard of it, lots of Dead fans are constantly critiquing shows and searching for the best ones. The Dead are my favorite band ever. I think people on here need to stop reacting and actually think before they so violently respond to others comments.
this song was performed well, but unfortunately the rest of the show Jerry sounded like he was about to die up on stage. I like this song even though the rest of the show makes me sad enough I could cry.
bro,you need to get a clue, the rest of this show jerry was in fiiiine form,in fact this whole tour he was in fiiiine form, maybe it is time for you to listen to another band
Thats because he was... He was struggling with diabetes and drug addiction. Not long after this performance he went into a diabetic coma... From that point on he was never the same...
This was from a three-night run at the Spectrum. Another one of the nights, they opened with Midnight=>Walkin' the Dog=>Big Boss Man. This night was nuts...
In case anybody's wondering where this was done: Easter Sunday, April 7 1985. Philly Spectrum. Phenomenal show!

Kind people don't make rude comments. You would figure the dead vids would lack the common youtube ignorant comments.

Pig died in '73, and in spite of that, '73 and '74 were some of the Dead's best shows

Why does the video have absolutely nothing to do with the song? The footage is from like 1987.

Forsaken379 2 years ago
@GDsetlists I have a version of this song from 1984 Greek Theatre, Phil sings "why don't we do it in the drums" its fantastic.
The date was 7/15/84.

@designknob very early on in the dead's career, there was something called the joshua light show. this is similar. goes back to the late 1960's.

Yeah I know I got the dates mixed up but I saw them play this song at Alpine. It's all kind of fuzzy if you know what I mean.
