Although many disco songs were producer projects, I am glad to see that Chic was basically a great 3 piece band, and the instruments they used to enhance their sound also had a face...they even used them on their presentations...the violinists are HOT!!
awesome that nile rodgers embraced euro-electronica, strings and symphonic music instead of thinking it was "too white" the women here dress a little like the andrew sisters. early 1979 was a COLD winter..

@hipmama1970 you wrote: Why are they dressed like they just got out of church?
Not church, that how the sophisticated, classy "chic" people dressed during the time period! Especially to go to clubs. I had a similar ensemble that Tony Thompson the drummer has on and I was just a teenager! That was Chic's brand, high fashion. If you looked at bands during the time period, especially R&B bands, it was glitter, space suit like stuff. These outfits were slick and a cut above the rest.
You have to remember what the disco scene was like in 1978, and what the lyrics are saying. The Savoy and the 54 were both *really upscale*. Chic's gimmick was to present the image of trendy, elegant, upwardly mobile black nouveau riche.
Yes, they do, remember the song is over 30 years old. The clothes back then was high fashion and that was Chic's brand back in the day, different from what other bands were wearing. I remember as a teenager going to clubs and wearing jackets and dancing off of LeFreak, Instant Funk, I Got My Mind Made Up...
What can you say, this is one of the most talented groups ever. Bernard and Niles tore it up, Tony was awesome, and Alfa and Luci voices are amazing. Also, the Chic strings added such a great sound to their songs, and they were all beautiful!!!!
Chic is one of the greatest and influential bands of the last 30 years, their sound inspired everyone from Duran Duran, ABC, The Time, House Music, Trip- Hop, R&B and many musicians. Disco was a very viable music and still is in 2008 unlike the cookie-cutter acts that pass for R&B, Punk, and Rock Bands. Miley Cyrus and Fall Out Boy are punk-sounding and neither has any street or music cred. They like Beyonce, SouljaBoy, are just pretty faces, Chic was the REAL DEAL !!!
You've got that right mate; Nile Rodgers ruled the bases. Before the Chic came along with this base-biased arrangement, disco was getting a little predictable. The Chic sound prolonged life for disco for another 2 years and then disco finally headed to the music history. Credit goes where credit is due. Disco was and is music, no matter how the pretensious snoots want to deny it.
Nile Rogers was quite a bass player though, I can't deny that.
Now when is Stephen Hawking finally gonna find that wormhole so that I can go back to this time and get stoned at Studio 54 with all of the REAL stars?
hahahaha tell me doesnt he look like Mr.Carribean Queen himself....but thanx 4 tha education on who dude is...appreciated...RU sure that's not Slow down and get into my car..lol

Great song, I am having a great time listening to this song, let's forget about everything that is going on around us, and remember those days that you just got up and danced to this song. Happy days!!
This CHIC song was great. An update on the surviving members - Nile Rodgers still produces and performs, Alfa Anderson is principal of a school in NYC, Luci Martin lives in Florida and is raising her son. Bernard Edwards passed in the mid 1990's and Tony Thompson died about 4 years ago from cancer.
I am very happy there are other people out there who share my taste in music. I wish today's music was as good as this, and that we had this CULTURE again!
the reason for the feeling in the groove is because they spent hours from a young age learning their respective instruments, blood sweat tears blood more tears and sweat on top of sweat and he presto chic. "Le Freak" is probably Chic's most popular hit and the highest selling record ever on Atlantic Records! This excellent quality video rewards Alfa Anderson and Luci Martin for their sophisticated elegance.

Chic boomed in England in the late 1970s, I just loved that band so much,Nile and Bernard, Lucy, Tony, together they and Sister Sledge just tore up the U.K dance floors, I bought all the music ,singles and albums and I STILL have them today in 2008!
