  • You know a song is good when the first phrase that comes to your mind upon hearing it is "blast furnace".

  • Oruçluyken dinlemeyin lan ne diyim, wonderfull song

  • i love head banging to this song

  • so awesome !!!!!! i need this as vinyl!

  • 15 people died of thirst.

  • mmmmm....thirsty for more tone...tone... LOVE THE TONE!!!

  • mmmmm....thirsty for more

  • This song mages me speel incureklie, cus mi bren dun wergh enniemwoh!

  • damn. if the sun was made of music it would sound like this

  • Heavy!

  • Pretty great description, accurate and unpretentious.

  • I just watched a film called The Messenger, and Pelican - Drought is listed on the OST. fucking awesome music! but there is some song, that i don't know, not even the name of it, or the band. can please somebody help me finding it, cause it's gonna be stuck in my head like 4ever. that song starts around 12th minute of the film, scene where Ben Foster is taking his eye medicine, in his room. any help will be very much appreciated !!!

  • @SweeneyAlexTodd You could google/youtube the specific scene you're looking for, they might have an answer. Or you could also google the entire OST of the movie and go from there. :P

  • Earth has done an ecological about-face: Global plant productivity that once flourished under warming temperatures and a lengthened growing season is now on the decline, struck by the stress of drought.

  • God-Like!!!

  • man the ground is moving for sure

  • As long as we're on the topic of suggestions, you might try Circus Maximus - Sin. It's different, but it shares a few key qualities, and I think it's a great song. Worth a shot!

  • Yea this song is pretty good

  • I'm so glad that I just ran into this style of music. I absolutely love mastodon (lol on the comments about leviathan) but one of the things I've been really listening to lately is instrumentals and I craved more but couldn't find anything good. Anyone got any suggestions on other bands like this?

  • @GeneralCowbear well Pelican is the heavier of them all but you may like Red Sparowes, Russian Circles,Thee Silver Mt. Zion,This Will Destroy You,Godspeed You! Black Emperor....

  • @GeneralCowbear animals as leaders........ incredible

  • @GeneralCowbear More of a metalcore sound (a very technical metalcore), but check out Animals as Leaders.

  • @GeneralCowbear post rock and post metal (which pelican is part of, though they'll deny it) are fantastic genres.

as for most instrumental, post music, i suggest Do Make Say Think, Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky, Tortoise, and Slint if you would like lighter stuff. For heavier, try Russian Circles, ISIS, Jesu, If These Walls Could Talk.

And as mentioned by Gustreznor, bands like A Silver Mt. Zion and Godspeed You! Black Emperor are must listens for anyone.

  • @TheWishfulOar Did you mean "If These Trees Could Talk?"

  • @marsvoltian yeah. i done goofed. i meant If These Trees Could Talk..

  • @TheWishfulOar what do you think of Maudlin of the well, kayo dot, amia venera landscape, rosetta, rinoa, bark psychosis and talk talk (laughig stock album)

  • Made the fatal mistake of starting this video with the lights on and not having a smoke in my hand. Feel like such an amatuer

  • @walla134 ahah I feel you, I'm out of rolling paper, shit. Pelican, great music ;)

  • well, this is a song to listen to when your in a flood.

  • This should be the soundtrack to a fucking great whale getting out of the water and fucking shit up with fire and concrete and steel and beef!

  • this should be the soundtrack to a really dark moby dick movie

  • @autopsy87 ur wrong, thats what mastodon did :P an entire album of it, called leviathan

  • @generalten just because mastadon did it doesnt make me wrong. also, Pelican>Mastadon. This song and Ahabs "Call of the Wretched Sea" would be absolutely perfect for a moby dick film.

  • @autopsy87 dude, i wasnt tryin to get u all pissed or anything, i was just pointing out that mastadon had based an entire album to it, and dont diss them, theyre great too, like neurosis

  • @generalten o, im not pissed man. Thats the problem with words on a screen lol, no emotion or body language. I get what your sayin. A friend of mine is always talking about that mastadon album.

  • @autopsy87 kk then

  • holy fuck this is heavy

  • why the fuck on everyone one of their videos are there some fools trying trying to put this music into a category??! im genuinely curious and puzzled as to why you cant just shut up and listen..

  • This isnt a genre for you to label. This is pelican.

  • this is not drone doom, this is not post metal or post rock.. this is..STONER METALLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • You guys are fucking brutal, respect from Croatia :)

  • Drone Doom and Post-Metal at its best!

  • It was great, until 6:00 . Then it was awesome.

  • this isnt post rock... rock is too soft for this type of sound, not that i have anything against rock, just isnt rock...

  • top of a dead brownie, kuul tune though..like all of theirs

  • this song makes me dehidrated

  • @cashflowization ....dehydrated.

  • @TheUnbeholden

    We know what he meant.

  • @TheUnbeholden I like to get high-drated for this song.

  • @TheUnbeholden dehydratedted

  • where are all these faggot drought haters comin from?

  • Yay, cheese-burgers!!!

  • @cvela20032003 But seriously, this is awesome shit.

  • Mother fucking heavy. yes.

  • Its hilarious how much heavier this is than metal. Post rock ftw

  • @Deathwing2 this is metal lol.

  • @Deathwing2 its hilarious how much heavier post metal is than this!

  • Brutal.

  • if I could see the video of how ridiculous I've looked for the past two hours listening to Pelican on YouTube in Starbucks! slow-motion headbanging hopped-up on chai and cheap kush shake!

  • @urckrecords You're first mistake was going to Starbucks. You just profiled yourself.

  • @robotsforever huh?

  • what vocals would you put in this , any suggestions?

  • @jfeuiebf layne staley of alice in chains

  • @ThatTallWhiteGuy that would probably be insanely killer. My choice would be Wino from Saint Vitus.

  • @jfeuiebf you wouldnt

  • @FpsDeffy talk samples would be ok now and then

  • @jfeuiebf a guy screaming DROUUUUUUGHT NO WATERRRR IT'S DRYYYYYY CRACKS IN THE SANDDDD

  • wow

  • I like when it speeds up

  • I wish more bands would abandon the idea of lead singers.(ego, assholes with zero talent) Who needs a goofy singer anyway? Loser who can't play an instrument standing in front of musicians and pretending to be "the front man" Screw 'em.

Bands need to focus on their textures and atmosphere like PELICAN.

Let all the out of work idiot singers audition for reality shows where they belong.

  • @craigdamage cept tool, maynard is is gud ;)

  • @Mr0hyah maynard isnt just good he is great. i think he knows stuff we dont.

  • @craigdamage Bruce from Iron Maiden, Jonny Craig from Emarosa/Dance Gavin Dance, singer of a band called Lower Definition, Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse to name a few bands from post-hardcore and metal genres just proved you wrong. And no offense, theres way too much repetition in a lot of post-rock bands. And like this band. They're like Meshuggah. They have one riff, that they just change just a little bit for the next section of the song.

  • @punkmusicmetal I know what you mean but the some how build up to a point, But you should listen to som Gojira and you will find that its pretty good

  • damn good song

  • this is stoner metal. making it heavy as a mother fucker

  • @monsterhead13 It's not stoner metal at all. Thats almost an insulting term anyway.

  • @Olliemetal666 this isn't stoner metal but it has stoner metal elements. it really does. its so slow and sludgy, it gives it the stoner feel. But i wouldn't classify it as stoner metal.

  • @wowthink more like r&b

  • WoW! n i thought what i was recording here in my home was too hard to be even heavy metal... ROCK GOD/DEVIL SAVE PELICAN!

  • post-rock? how? this is a little heavy for post-rock

  • @lknkprkninflamesbest it's post-metal if you wish to call it that

  • @lknkprkninflamesbest

Or sludge metal, i you don't like that tag

Really, genres are so ambiguous i wouldn't really care.

  • the ground splits to this track

  • si. mucho incredible.

  • I love this song

  • labiaspreading

  • for those long nights we had

    with no worries no calls

    for our where abouts or

    what we were up to.

no girls friends expected our calls or any other women.

this song goes to those memories carv in to my skull

this song will remain unchange in my memories

for now our friendship compromise for our own egotistical, greedy and curiosity...

  • toenailcrushing

  • head phone crashing

  • Russian Circles, Pelican, Cult of Luna, and Isis are so similar imo. All these bands have that exteneded gloom/melodic sound! Very cool!

  • OMG, the progression of this song... I've read somewhere that they recorded the album Australasia in just one afternoon. How hard is that, one afternoon!!!
