My understanding of the rolling kneebar was limited to reach between your legs, grab opponents leg, and roll forward. It's really awesome to see somebody articulate the details of the move :)
Every time I attempt this move I end up kicking my training partner in the nuts. Is that the way it's supposed to be? That would make it a dirty move.
@tommi35777 Lols... U.S.Sambo is just an association in the U.S... It doesn't mean it's "American Sambo"... They clearly state on their site that Sambo was invented for the Soviet Union in the 20th century s a formidable Combat Fighting Style for the military.
Hello Steve Keopfer. I am watching many of your videos and I must say I have great respect for Sambo. However I was wondering if Sambo has a belt system or not. Thank you, and keep rolling.
I do BJJ, and I wish I could do Sambo as well. I don't understand why alot of people talk shit about other martial arts. For example, BBJ sucks and Sambo is the best, or viceversa. If I would have the time and MONEY(time is not actually an issue for me), I would do Sambo, BJJ, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Boxing, and Jeet Kune Do. It is all good for me!!!
@D0wn82 Yeah dude! I personally love BJJ and Muay Thai. Wing Chun is a favorite of mine as well :) but I dnt feel that any martial art is better than the other. Some, such as the above mentioned, r more practical n my opinion but nothing is better per se than another.
Every martial art out there has disadvantages and advantages. There is no complete martial art. When I say there is no complete martial art, I mean, for example, boxing lacks of ground fighting, weapon training, multiple attackers, leg kicks, submissions. Muay Thai lacks in ground fighting, submissions, takedowns, and so on. BJJ lacks in striking, multiple attackers, weapon training, and so on. Do you see what I'm trying to get?
wo this guy actually knows what the fuck hes talking about and better yet, he can CLEARLY perform what he is teaching which is surprisingly rare what a hero
I've got a question. When I do this move, I don't hook the far leg. I just do it like a rolling uchimata to kneebar. Is that wrong? Because hooking the far leg seems to be an additional complication, which your opponent can sabotage. How can I get a tight kneebar if I do not hook the far leg?
@Agtren No it is not wrong. I just teach with the far leg control because I may decide to do a scissor instead. It controls his hips and can set you up for many things. But, for the rolling kneebar unto itself, it is not needed.
Japanese Jiu-Jitsu is the unarmed fighting of the Samurai and is self-defense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is primarily for sport and has some completely different concepts.
@IRuNNiinTinGZ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was frist used as self defense in the streets of Brazil. Its always been about self defense but like Judo the sport aspect is much more popular. People say its primarily for sport don't know the history of BJJ.
-This is one of my favorite techniques. I liked the way the demonstrators executed it-Very efficient with no wasted movement! Good to see some practicality for a change compared to all the other stuff on the tube.
Debating is Sambo is Russian or not? LOL. Funny thing is that my coach always said sambo was an "international art" created by the Soviets. USSR does not equal Russia. The USSR was multi national. My coach considered it international because of the origins of the various arts that were used to create Sambo...including Judo, Japanese JJ, Regional wrestling and fighting styles, and yes, even Catch wrestling (what the Soviets called "American Freestyle Wrestling" back then.
It´s strange this debate exists, I actually had heard that sambo was created by a russian judoka (Ochscepkov) that refused to deny that sambo was a MMA of Judo-JJJ-and old russian wrestlings during the stalinist dictature....I never noticed there was a debate around his creator....
Oshchepkov was one of the founders (the other was spiridonov). But he was killed as a Japanese spy, not for anything having to do directly with sambo. But his connections to Japan did him in during the political purges.
@sambosteve You're right , it is one of the most well rounded MMA combination. But, considering the name itself - "Sambo" is an abbreviation for "SAMozashita Bez Orujiya" which means Self defense without weapons, is a russian phrase, it is technically considered a Russia form of Martial art.
@sambosteve sambo was created in the times of ussr, but it was created by russians. Founders of sambo was harlampiev oschepkov and spiridonov and they were russians. yes it took best things from different martial arts but as a mix of them, as a new martial art called sambo - it was created by russians ^)
because his knee bar version relyes on the fact on the attacker going on taking you even when he falls and after getting striked, which I can tell you only happens in dreams....I will look 4 a bit more of sambo just to c
well I ´am a grappler, I´ve always seen Sambo with sceptical eyes as long as I thing It´s a bad Judo version....However, from far, this is the best knee bar version I´ve seen, and I loved the leg control he took.....and @
sergioskatendless, you should see a bit more bout mcmap,
yes, to the guy who said mcmap is better than sambo:
"sergioskatendless: mcmap is better " I tell him that this video shows more realistic rolling knee bar than mcmap´s one; and that we should all begin to see other martial arts with a more opened mind...
So... What iv learned from Sambo is its just like... Japanese martial arts mixed together... Whats so Russian about it? All I ever see is like some Eastern style kicks, and some boxing and Japanese Judo. Why is it Russian???
Why is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brazilian? Why is Shotokan Japanese Karate rather than Okinawan Karate? Why is stick fighting from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia so similar yet different? Cultural diffusion. An art moves across geography and gets changed and modified to become something different..
Brazilian Jujutsu is not Brazilian lol Its very much Japanese, the kneebar was used by Samurai before people even knew that Brazil existed... Besides, if you wanna play like that Jujutsu is Chinese, from a art called Shuai Jiao, Karate is a style of Kung fu, brought to Okinawa by Chinese traders, the stick fighting techniques are from China as well. Sambo is very much NOT Russian in any way, Karate is changed Kung fu mixed with the original "te" of Okinawa, Russian just took stuff...
You completely missed my point. My point is an art moves from one land to another and then evolves and becomes something different. Brazilian JJ is so different from Japanese JJ that is only makes sense to call is something different.
I'm no expert on sambo (would like to try it out one day though) but from what I've read its a mixture of judo and native Russian wrestling. I guess combat sambo is that mixed with some kickboxing. Where they got the striking from I don't know. It's Russian because it was made up in Russia, just like BJJ is Brazilian because it was made in Brazil.
Its no Russian and bjj is NOT Brazilian, and neither were made up in either countries. Its not fair that Brazil gets the credit for a Japanese martial art while people make youtube videos and joke about "Bullshido" and all that crap when Brazil is seen as badass for having a cool martial art. The philosophy behind Jujitsu is Japanese, the techniques, the style of fighting, its all Japanese. Yes Brazil alterd it, using the leverage principle and ways of thinking of original JJ. Its not fair!
Yes, sambo is Russian, you stupid prick. It was made by combining judo, Russian wrestling and in some forms kickboxing. BJJ is MODIFIED JJ. It's not the same shit with a different name, you loser.
Quit crying about what's fair. You don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. "Sambo isn't Russian." You're a fucking idiot. Get a life, jerkoff.
You can call people names all you want, but in the end, it dosent make you more correct and just makes you look stupid. Japan invented Jujitsu, and Judo, and other countries are getting the credit for them by taking them and making them games. TKD, BJJ, Sambo. Original Jujitsu is way better for the streets than the sport version called BJJ... Samurai wrestled with whoever winning, was the person that wasent dead, basically anything agenst the rules of BJJ was the point of JJ...
No, these other countries didn't just rename an already-established art. TKD, BJJ, sambo, etc. took techniques from other arts and added in their own, modified them, changed the approach of the art, etc. Most arts took stuff from other arts. That's just how it is. It's like how countries took technology from other countries and developed other things from it.
Samurai used swords, arrows, spears, etc. to kill people. They didn't "wrestle", you fucking idiot.
Actually the Samurai used Jujitsu as well as weapons, in war, it usually ends up by wrestling. You sword fight, then you end up locked up, someone grabs your arm so you cant swing, it ends up on the ground wrestling. Just a example as how that could happen, Jujitsu was made and used by the Samurai in war, your the idiot... You obviously dont even know the orgins of Jujitsu yet you continue to call names like a little kid =P Samurai arnt like the movies, it was real fighting, win or die.
You watch too many movies. You obviously didn't get any of this bullshit about samurais from legitimate sources. No, sword fights don't end up on the ground. That sounds like the stupidest fucking thing you've said so far in fact. Who the fuck would try to get past the range of a sword to grab someone's wrist when they have a sword themselves to fight with? Seriously, talk about DUMB.
The origins of JJ aren't being discussed here, fucktard. We were discussing sambo and BJJ and such.
THATS THE FREAKIN ROOTS OF JUJITSU!!! Look it up yourself idiot, watch history channel, something... I learned that from my Japanese grandpa, not to mention its on the episod of Human Weapon when they did Judo, they talked about the orgins of Judo, its original Jujitsu, which they clearly stated and showed a clip of two samurais fighting and grappling... Dont call me stupid when your the one who obviously dosent know crap about anything... LOOK IT UP BEFORE YOU CALL ME STUPID!!!
You saw one samurai throwing a guy. How again was this a scenario of one samurai grabbing the other guy's wrist and then it turning into a wrestling match on the ground???
Your original contention was that all these arts were just ripping off another art and giving it a different name. It's been shown all these arts have similarities to the arts they stemmed from, but are different enough to be called another style. You're worse than those idiots who claim every MA came from Shaolin KF.
I guess your right, history channel along with every other sorce in the world about the orgins of Jujitsu must be wrong. Your so right. Why would you be wrong??? You obviously know everything about the Samurai, you just know everything about everything. Yes that clip of Samurai dropping their weapons is stupid, thats not how it went down, but they did invent Jujutsu and not all peopel wore helmits and ALL the helmits have open eye holes and most didnt cover their face anyway.
You told me to prove you wrong, I did, history channel knows more than you, and no matter what you say history knows that the Samurai used Jujitsu and are the creators of it, and used it in a fight. You never did Kendo before, because like I said, it almost always locks up and it is very easy to get control of their weapon. fact is, ground fighting is a reality, and back in the day when this kind of fighting was a reality we knew this. Ground fighting is a HUGE part of combat, your wrong...
That was "Human Weapon", not the History Channel, which is an entire channel as opposed to a single show.
I never contested JJ was used in fights. I only contested your ridiculous claim that samurai would drop their weapons so they could wrestle or that they would try to grab one another's wrists while swords were flying at them.
I just watched several kendo fights. None of them had any sort of grappling in them. Try again, fag.
I never said they drop their weapons and run at eachother like the stupid clip, that was just to show the grappling. I also never said Kendo did grappling, I said it locks up, meaning the people have their swords touching and they are pushing eachother, which in real life usually ends up in grappling. You arnt alowed to grappling in Kendo, Kendo is the way of the sword, not the way of killing people anyway you can... Its a game, and all you can do is make up lies now... Your wrong lol
I fail to see how easy it is to grab another guy's sword when he's using both HIS hands to push his sword against yours. That means if you let go of your sword you are that much weaker against his power. How many real-life sword battles have you watched anyway? Apparently none. You used that silly "Human Weapon" clip to illustrate your point, then double backed on it and said it wasn't realistic. Haha, samurais wrestling..... That's funny.
Im starting to dout your even arguing because you see a different point... You were OBVIOUSLY proven inncorrect, you have no clue what your talking about, your rediculous in every way and act like a little kid calling names... You didnt even know Jujitsu was made by Samurai... And you have the nerve to call me stupid, dumb, and make fun of me... LOOK IT UP ANYWHERE!!! History channel wouldent alow it to be shown if it was a lie... Your the stupid one, just look it up instead of making up crap...
You didn't prove shit. You straw manned and then backpedalled on your own video clip which you were using as evidence for your argument. You're a joke.
"You didnt even know Jujitsu was made by Samurai..."
Haha, I should keep track of how many times you use that stupid straw man. You seem to think it's helping you win the argument, yet for the last several posts I haven't said anything about this.
"History channel wouldent alow it to be shown if it was a lie..."
Your wrong, you know it, you just arnt admiting it cause your stupid like that... I know lots of dumb people like you, meat head wanna be losers with nothing better to do then argue... If you dont like Human Weapon, look it up anywhere you want, but you wont, cause you just wanna lie to yourself and me... What do you owe to the world... Is it so hard to say you were wrong... If Japan didnt make Jujitsu, then why is the name of the art in Japanese??? Your so stupid... LOOK IT UP!!!
Your link was nothing... It only talked about the weapon fighting, big deal. How am I pathetic, all you can do is call names... =P You can belive whatever you want, your wrong, and anyone that knows anything about Jujitsu, BJJ, Judo, Kendo, SAMBO, the freakin history channel. They will all tell you that Jujitsu was made by the Samurai. Have fun in your amazing world of Kommisar, the world where historians lie on TV and books and what makes peoples arguments correct is name calling!!! =D
It talked about how samurai warfare went down. Notice how it said SWORD FIGHTS, not wrestling matches. There's no way in hell I'd drop my weapon in a real battle. You're dead if you do.
There are no historians involved in "Human Weapon". It's not run by the History Channel either. They just fucking air the show, you goddamn moron. You don't even know how TV works. Fucking retard. No wonder you believe in wrestling matches on the battlefield and other stupid shit.
Yet I dont recall it saying that they DIDNT fight on the ground, and like iv told you hundreds of times, they didnt drop their weapons, they actually trained fighting on the ground with their weapons, if you ever took a Jujitsu class, you would know...
Where your source just didnt talk about Jujitsu, what about the message I sent you containing TONS of links to pages clearly stating that Jujitsu was used by the samurai. Theres at least 8 different freakin websites I gave you...
They probably would have mentioned wrestling matches if they were such an integral part of sword fighting like you mentioned. Just the idea of it defines common sense. If I'm fighting for my life, you can bet I'm not going to lose my weapon, and if I do, I'm going to try to find one or flee until I can get one.
JJ don't teach you how to sword fight, you fucking moron. Weapons fighting has no place in today's society where guns are so commonplace. Grow the fuck up, you loser.
I noticed you didnt reply to my message containing tons of links to history documents and ancient pictures of Japanese men doing Jujitsu. There is a painting from like 500 years ago of a Samurai choking another samurai in the "rear naked choke" Your so lazy you wont even look it up when I give you tons of links to, your stupid... You only belive yourself, and you make up your own meanings to what I say. Yes in Jujitsu, not BJJ but Jujitsu they teach weapons, LOOK IT UP, YOUR THE STUPID ONE!
I noticed that you never proved samurais dropped their weapons so they could have wrestling matches.
They don't teach weapons anymore outside of forms. Kendo and fencing are about the closest you'll get to real weapons fighting. No one's going to want to bother learning how to fight with a sword when they can just buy a gun and kill any sword master with the pull of a trigger. You're living in a fucking fantasy. Grow the fuck up, you goddamn loser.
See you dont listen to anyone, you take what information you like, and turn it around. You basically pick and choose the words out of my sentences, rearange them to how you like, and then call names... Thats not a argument, its just being a bitch... I gave you tons of websites, and they dont drop their weapons to fight, it dosent look like ring fighting... Your just some UFC fan boy that cant accept that he was wrong, which iv proven you wrong with history channel and tons of website links...
That's not what you said before. You said these guys did wrestling matches on the battlefield. Haha, one doesn't even have to do ANY research to realize what a silly notion that is.
You said the "Human Weapon" clip was unrealistic, so how the fuck did you prove me wrong with something you yourself discredited? You're a real fucking bozo, not to mention a pathetic, sad, little freak with no friends. Get fucked, douchebag.
See all you do is call names and change what people say. I NEVER said they dropped their weapons to have a wrestling match, your an idiot. You belive what you want, reguardless of the hundreds of facts and websites that streight up say "SAMURAI invented and use Jujitsu" and the Human weapon clip, not the whole video, the two second reinactment that they show of two guys dropping their weapons, not the whole show... Your too stupid to understand, I dont want to talk to you anymore, get a life.
I never said the Japs didn't invent JJ -- yet you've spent almost half your time insisting they did like anyone gives a shit.
They wouldn't have wrestling matches unless they didn't have weapons, now would they?
You can't use a clip and say it's a good example and evidence of what you're talking about, and then say it's half true. Which is it? Either you're using it as proof of you're not. You can't cherry pick it. Fuck off, you ghetto loser. Your ancestors would think you're a joke.
You dont understand what people say to you, because you dont want to. You want to be correct, so you denaie anything and everything that can prove you wrong. I showed you tons of websites clearly saying the samurai invented Jujitsu and used it on the battle field weapons or not, they used it for fighting and killing people like it was made for. You showed me one website that just didnt mention it, when I showed you tons of them saying it streight up they did... Whos proof is better???
Wow, bringing up who invented JJ when I was arguing about your absurd wrestling point. You really are thick. Obviously you've smoked too much crack and now you're brain has turned to shit. Get help, you freak.
Yep... All you have done is call names and act cool... Yet you still act like your correct when iv proven you wrong with tons of sources, yet you have failed to provied any sources on your side of the argument... With the acception of your samurai weapons fighting page that talked about WEAPONS and just didnt mention Jujitsu, where as I have it on like 10 websites say "Jujitsu started with the Samurai" Please inlighten us all on where Jujitsu came from, or shut up...
We were talking about samurais, sword fighting and various styles of MA, NOT JJ or its origins. You really seem to have a hard time getting this. 9 out of 10 of your posts have some rant about how the Japs made JJ, which I really couldn't give a fuck about. You haven't stuck to the original argument and you used that "Human Weapon" (NOT History Channel, you fucking dipshit) clip and then say how it's "not realistic". You're confused and need professional help.
Just as I thought... So you dont know who or why Jujitsu was invented??? Which yes, it was what we were talking about, dont act stupid... If you cannot provid any facts or sources stating that the Samurai did in fact not make and use Jujitsu for fighting when battle got to close for a sword, then you are inncorrect and have been proven wrong. So just keep calling names and twisting my words around, who needs facts when you can call names...
No, we were talking about who invented sambo, BJJ, TKD, etc. I said BJJ was made in Brazil as it's modified JJ. It's not JJ with a different name, just like TKD isn't karate with a different name, etc. I never said JJ was invented by such and such. That's you and your crack-addled mind talking about nonsense no one ever brought up.
I also never said samurai never used JJ, you fucking buffoon. That's an even worse straw man.
Go ahead, keep wasting your time. I'll just insult you, fag.
You actually did say that the samurai never made Jujitsu and that they didnt use it. You just want to be correct, so your changing what were talking about... Yes, they are alterd and modified, but no one can denaie that Japan was the one that made Jujitsu first and that 98% of the moves and techniques and philosophy behind them are Japanese. The uniform is the gi, the samurai wore funeral dress (white robe) under their armor to show they were ready to die in battle, strange resemblence...
As far as TKD...They basically use 90% of Shotokan Karate, the only difference is a slight influence from Taekkyun, and they like to throw way more kicks, watch ITF Taekwondo, when they actually punch,it looks like Karate...
btw BJJ was also made by a Japanese man,he tought a Gracie original Jujitsu, but the Gracie he tought was old, so he modified the moves taking out any moves that use brute strength and that sort of stuff, also they made it for sport, no more strikes, eyes, groin, fingers ect
ITF is considered pussy TKD. I've met plenty of TKD practitioners and never any that train or compete in that style.
TKD is almost like shotokan karate? I think not. Shotokan's premise is to attack the guy and only throw 3 strikes or so at most. If they don't hit the guy or KO him in such few strikes they move back. TKD has uses multiple-kick combos which are lighter and quicker than those in shotokan. You know fuck all. Go educate yourself for real as opposed to just watching movies.
No art has eye gouges and shit like that. Those are bitch moves anyone can do. You don't "train" that kind of shit since if you do you'll wind up hurting your training partner very badly. Not even Maeda did that crap. This just further proves you're a deluded fucking idiot who LARPs more than he fights or trains.
Yes, BJJ is modified JJ, key word, "modified". It has an entirely different approach and some different techniques. That doesn't make them the same, now does it, dumbass?
As a matter of fact when the samurai were fighting your so called "bitch moves" were what determind weather you ever saw your wife and kids again or were choked to death looking up at the sky for the last time... Watch my video I sent you, you will know soon enough how deluded I am... btw I love the Gracies, and I watched one of the biographies. They said a JAPANESE man modified the moves so the Gracie he was teaching could do the moves cause he was to old to use alot of strength =)
Look at any picture of a samurai dressed for battle. They are wearing thick armor. Eye pokes and groin kicks don't work against that, which is one of the many reasons why they wore armor. This is fucking common sense, you imbecile, and yet you would say such a stupid thing as how samurais would eye gouge each other. I guess in your little fantasy world they would drop their swords, spears or bows and then charge each other for a wrestling/eye gouging contest, hahaha!
BJJ is the most logical name for it. The evolution of the techniques came from BRAZIL. What else would you call it? Modified Japanese Jiu-Jitsu? Mixed Jiu-Jitsu?
Combat is always evolving. In 500 years BJJ, MT, or any other "cool martial arts" could become either obsolete, or obscured beyond recognition.
This attempt to reclaim BJJ and Sambo as a JAPANESE is not only presumptuous but showcases your inner insecurities.
Nobody ever credits modern Boxing as Greek or Sumerian, do they?
People might not say, oh, theres "Greek punching system" or something, but they very well know that Greeks used it and made it. When you have people streight up denaieing my peoples history and the fact that my people created originally one of the most effective fighting arts in the wrold used today that is horrible. Peopel make whole websites dedicated to making asian martial arts look stupid, and for us to have made a nessesity of modern UFC and for people to denaie it... Rediculous...
So what? No one denies that sambo evolved from other systems. You originally said it was wrong to call sambo Russian or BJJ Brazilian. Look now, you're changing your tune. You're completely full of shit.
By the way, boxing originated in Egypt, not Greece, and some might argue JJ has some of its roots in China. (Japanese people aren't indigenous to the land as they immigrated from China.)
The origin of ancient boxing is too complicated to truly track down since boxing is probably the simplest form of combat sport there is (next to Sumo ^_^), and therefor it could very easily have developed in multiple areas simultaneously rather than one specific area. The earliest traceable origins of ancient boxing where actually in Mesopotamia.
Like all MAs, it all came together & evolved to suit whatever needs had to be met, be it self-defense, sport, or even entertainment (Capoeira).
Capoeira was not "evolved" for entertainment. It was a way for Brazilian slaves to become practitioners of martial arts seeing as they were not allowed to just study what the willed to. By making it seem they where dancing they where allowed to study s form of martial arts. Thus leaving us with Cap.
That being said what happened to boxing is happening to asian TMAs. Just like modern boxing began to grow in England, the future of JJ might be Brazil.
But why the long face? Nobody has anything against Asian TMAs. Its natural that someone will reinvent something and make it more useful for THEIR needs. Nobody discredits Japan as the originator of JJ. BJJ is a diff story.
And if you're worried ppl will forget you'll always have an asshole like me on youtube to remind them. JJ is Japanese.
Yeah, that other douche kept babbling about how the Japs made JJ even though I never argued against that. He also said samurais had wrestling matches on the ground (no weapons) during sword fights.
well the japanese did invent JJ and it was designed to be used in combat situations during sword fighting, and in battle they would actually have "wrestling" matches on the ground. Mind you they didnt just drop their swords and start wrestlingg. it would start with them getting close and wrapped up in eachother while sword fightingg and then thats when someone would throw the other person and thats were it becam a "wrestling" match...
You wont see them in sport judo systems. (point competition)Traditional/self defense systems that retain all Kensetsu Waza (locks and holds) from their Ju Jutsu heritage will include leg joint attacks. Hope this helps.
In judo we have leglocks (see an exemple of them in the last technique of Katame no kata) but they are not legal in competition. However you have to study them (as well as you have to study atemi waza) if you want to be a real judoka. Hope this may help.
wow that's awesome it even shows you how to counter someone who tries to kick right after but you'd have to practice quite a bit to get comfy bcuz the other person can just twist and kick faster than u can process unless u already know what to do
Having trained Sambo and BJJ for years, I can say that Sambo's approach to leg locks is much more comprehensive. If you study Sambo you will find yourself executing the same knee bar, but depending on your body positioning you learn all the little nuances that make the move work on those different times. Train in it and it will improve your overall submission grappling.
To say the least that is very inaccurate. Sambo is a style that dedicates much time to leg locks. Some bjj schools do not even allow leg locks at all, which is not good for teaching mixed martial arts or self defense. Sambo has also proven itself on the battle field in countless wars. So it is safe to assume that leg locks are useful for self defense. Also the fact that there are many fighters who train sambo is a testament to its strength in the ring. Sambo isn't wac, but your opionion is.
People like you make BJJ look bad - BJJ came from Judo and in that sense 'stole moves.'
Compare any two martial arts striking styles. They have jabs and crosses, usually with different names. That doesn't make either style invalid. Stop tooling up the internet.

@MetalReggaeton

I've got a question. When I do this move, I don't hook the far leg. I just do it like a rolling uchimata to kneebar. Is that wrong? Because hooking the far leg seems to be an additional complication, which your opponent can sabotage. How can I get a tight kneebar if I do not hook the far leg?
Agtren 1 year ago
@Agtren No it is not wrong. I just teach with the far leg control because I may decide to do a scissor instead. It controls his hips and can set you up for many things. But, for the rolling kneebar unto itself, it is not needed.
sambosteve 1 year ago
Japanese Jiu-Jitsu is the unarmed fighting of the Samurai and is self-defense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is primarily for sport and has some completely different concepts.
IRuNNiinTinGZ 1 year ago
@IRuNNiinTinGZ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was frist used as self defense in the streets of Brazil. Its always been about self defense but like Judo the sport aspect is much more popular. People say its primarily for sport don't know the history of BJJ.

Debating is Sambo is Russian or not? LOL. Funny thing is that my coach always said sambo was an "international art" created by the Soviets. USSR does not equal Russia. The USSR was multi national. My coach considered it international because of the origins of the various arts that were used to create Sambo...including Judo, Japanese JJ, Regional wrestling and fighting styles, and yes, even Catch wrestling (what the Soviets called "American Freestyle Wrestling" back then.
sambosteve 1 year ago
It´s strange this debate exists, I actually had heard that sambo was created by a russian judoka (Ochscepkov) that refused to deny that sambo was a MMA of Judo-JJJ-and old russian wrestlings during the stalinist dictature....I never noticed there was a debate around his creator....
patrickangus16 1 year ago
Oshchepkov was one of the founders (the other was spiridonov). But he was killed as a Japanese spy, not for anything having to do directly with sambo. But his connections to Japan did him in during the political purges.

@sambosteve You're right , it is one of the most well rounded MMA combination. But, considering the name itself - "Sambo" is an abbreviation for "SAMozashita Bez Orujiya" which means Self defense without weapons, is a russian phrase, it is technically considered a Russia form of Martial art.
SawYeR2626 1 year ago
@sambosteve sambo was created in the times of ussr, but it was created by russians. Founders of sambo was harlampiev oschepkov and spiridonov and they were russians. yes it took best things from different martial arts but as a mix of them, as a new martial art called sambo - it was created by russians ^)

So... What iv learned from Sambo is its just like... Japanese martial arts mixed together... Whats so Russian about it? All I ever see is like some Eastern style kicks, and some boxing and Japanese Judo. Why is it Russian???
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
Why is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Brazilian? Why is Shotokan Japanese Karate rather than Okinawan Karate? Why is stick fighting from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia so similar yet different? Cultural diffusion. An art moves across geography and gets changed and modified to become something different..
mattm1836 2 years ago
Brazilian Jujutsu is not Brazilian lol Its very much Japanese, the kneebar was used by Samurai before people even knew that Brazil existed... Besides, if you wanna play like that Jujutsu is Chinese, from a art called Shuai Jiao, Karate is a style of Kung fu, brought to Okinawa by Chinese traders, the stick fighting techniques are from China as well. Sambo is very much NOT Russian in any way, Karate is changed Kung fu mixed with the original "te" of Okinawa, Russian just took stuff...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
You completely missed my point. My point is an art moves from one land to another and then evolves and becomes something different. Brazilian JJ is so different from Japanese JJ that is only makes sense to call is something different.
mattm1836 2 years ago
I'm no expert on sambo (would like to try it out one day though) but from what I've read its a mixture of judo and native Russian wrestling. I guess combat sambo is that mixed with some kickboxing. Where they got the striking from I don't know. It's Russian because it was made up in Russia, just like BJJ is Brazilian because it was made in Brazil.
kommisar 2 years ago
Its no Russian and bjj is NOT Brazilian, and neither were made up in either countries. Its not fair that Brazil gets the credit for a Japanese martial art while people make youtube videos and joke about "Bullshido" and all that crap when Brazil is seen as badass for having a cool martial art. The philosophy behind Jujitsu is Japanese, the techniques, the style of fighting, its all Japanese. Yes Brazil alterd it, using the leverage principle and ways of thinking of original JJ. Its not fair!
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
Yes, sambo is Russian, you stupid prick. It was made by combining judo, Russian wrestling and in some forms kickboxing. BJJ is MODIFIED JJ. It's not the same shit with a different name, you loser.
Quit crying about what's fair. You don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. "Sambo isn't Russian." You're a fucking idiot. Get a life, jerkoff.
kommisar 2 years ago
You can call people names all you want, but in the end, it dosent make you more correct and just makes you look stupid. Japan invented Jujitsu, and Judo, and other countries are getting the credit for them by taking them and making them games. TKD, BJJ, Sambo. Original Jujitsu is way better for the streets than the sport version called BJJ... Samurai wrestled with whoever winning, was the person that wasent dead, basically anything agenst the rules of BJJ was the point of JJ...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
No, these other countries didn't just rename an already-established art. TKD, BJJ, sambo, etc. took techniques from other arts and added in their own, modified them, changed the approach of the art, etc. Most arts took stuff from other arts. That's just how it is. It's like how countries took technology from other countries and developed other things from it.
Samurai used swords, arrows, spears, etc. to kill people. They didn't "wrestle", you fucking idiot.
kommisar 2 years ago
Actually the Samurai used Jujitsu as well as weapons, in war, it usually ends up by wrestling. You sword fight, then you end up locked up, someone grabs your arm so you cant swing, it ends up on the ground wrestling. Just a example as how that could happen, Jujitsu was made and used by the Samurai in war, your the idiot... You obviously dont even know the orgins of Jujitsu yet you continue to call names like a little kid =P Samurai arnt like the movies, it was real fighting, win or die.
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
You watch too many movies. You obviously didn't get any of this bullshit about samurais from legitimate sources. No, sword fights don't end up on the ground. That sounds like the stupidest fucking thing you've said so far in fact. Who the fuck would try to get past the range of a sword to grab someone's wrist when they have a sword themselves to fight with? Seriously, talk about DUMB.
The origins of JJ aren't being discussed here, fucktard. We were discussing sambo and BJJ and such.
kommisar 2 years ago
THATS THE FREAKIN ROOTS OF JUJITSU!!! Look it up yourself idiot, watch history channel, something... I learned that from my Japanese grandpa, not to mention its on the episod of Human Weapon when they did Judo, they talked about the orgins of Judo, its original Jujitsu, which they clearly stated and showed a clip of two samurais fighting and grappling... Dont call me stupid when your the one who obviously dosent know crap about anything... LOOK IT UP BEFORE YOU CALL ME STUPID!!!
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
You saw one samurai throwing a guy. How again was this a scenario of one samurai grabbing the other guy's wrist and then it turning into a wrestling match on the ground???
Your original contention was that all these arts were just ripping off another art and giving it a different name. It's been shown all these arts have similarities to the arts they stemmed from, but are different enough to be called another style. You're worse than those idiots who claim every MA came from Shaolin KF.
kommisar 2 years ago
I guess your right, history channel along with every other sorce in the world about the orgins of Jujitsu must be wrong. Your so right. Why would you be wrong??? You obviously know everything about the Samurai, you just know everything about everything. Yes that clip of Samurai dropping their weapons is stupid, thats not how it went down, but they did invent Jujutsu and not all peopel wore helmits and ALL the helmits have open eye holes and most didnt cover their face anyway.
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
You told me to prove you wrong, I did, history channel knows more than you, and no matter what you say history knows that the Samurai used Jujitsu and are the creators of it, and used it in a fight. You never did Kendo before, because like I said, it almost always locks up and it is very easy to get control of their weapon. fact is, ground fighting is a reality, and back in the day when this kind of fighting was a reality we knew this. Ground fighting is a HUGE part of combat, your wrong...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
That was "Human Weapon", not the History Channel, which is an entire channel as opposed to a single show.
I never contested JJ was used in fights. I only contested your ridiculous claim that samurai would drop their weapons so they could wrestle or that they would try to grab one another's wrists while swords were flying at them.
I just watched several kendo fights. None of them had any sort of grappling in them. Try again, fag.
kommisar 2 years ago
I never said they drop their weapons and run at eachother like the stupid clip, that was just to show the grappling. I also never said Kendo did grappling, I said it locks up, meaning the people have their swords touching and they are pushing eachother, which in real life usually ends up in grappling. You arnt alowed to grappling in Kendo, Kendo is the way of the sword, not the way of killing people anyway you can... Its a game, and all you can do is make up lies now... Your wrong lol
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
I fail to see how easy it is to grab another guy's sword when he's using both HIS hands to push his sword against yours. That means if you let go of your sword you are that much weaker against his power. How many real-life sword battles have you watched anyway? Apparently none. You used that silly "Human Weapon" clip to illustrate your point, then double backed on it and said it wasn't realistic. Haha, samurais wrestling..... That's funny.
kommisar 2 years ago
Im starting to dout your even arguing because you see a different point... You were OBVIOUSLY proven inncorrect, you have no clue what your talking about, your rediculous in every way and act like a little kid calling names... You didnt even know Jujitsu was made by Samurai... And you have the nerve to call me stupid, dumb, and make fun of me... LOOK IT UP ANYWHERE!!! History channel wouldent alow it to be shown if it was a lie... Your the stupid one, just look it up instead of making up crap...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
You didn't prove shit. You straw manned and then backpedalled on your own video clip which you were using as evidence for your argument. You're a joke.
"You didnt even know Jujitsu was made by Samurai..."
Haha, I should keep track of how many times you use that stupid straw man. You seem to think it's helping you win the argument, yet for the last several posts I haven't said anything about this.
"History channel wouldent alow it to be shown if it was a lie..."

If Japan didnt make Jujitsu, then why is the name of the art in Japanese??? Your so stupid... LOOK IT UP!!!
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
I did look it up. I sent you a link in fact. It said nothing about samurais dropping their weapons to have having wrestling matches.
Haha, still continuing to use that stupid straw man. Pathetic. You are so dumb you have to make up arguments.
kommisar 2 years ago
Your link was nothing... It only talked about the weapon fighting, big deal. How am I pathetic, all you can do is call names... =P You can belive whatever you want, your wrong, and anyone that knows anything about Jujitsu, BJJ, Judo, Kendo, SAMBO, the freakin history channel. They will all tell you that Jujitsu was made by the Samurai. Have fun in your amazing world of Kommisar, the world where historians lie on TV and books and what makes peoples arguments correct is name calling!!! =D
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
It talked about how samurai warfare went down. Notice how it said SWORD FIGHTS, not wrestling matches. There's no way in hell I'd drop my weapon in a real battle. You're dead if you do.
There are no historians involved in "Human Weapon". It's not run by the History Channel either. They just fucking air the show, you goddamn moron. You don't even know how TV works. Fucking retard. No wonder you believe in wrestling matches on the battlefield and other stupid shit.
kommisar 2 years ago
Yet I dont recall it saying that they DIDNT fight on the ground, and like iv told you hundreds of times, they didnt drop their weapons, they actually trained fighting on the ground with their weapons, if you ever took a Jujitsu class, you would know...
Where your source just didnt talk about Jujitsu, what about the message I sent you containing TONS of links to pages clearly stating that Jujitsu was used by the samurai. Theres at least 8 different freakin websites I gave you...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
They probably would have mentioned wrestling matches if they were such an integral part of sword fighting like you mentioned. Just the idea of it defines common sense. If I'm fighting for my life, you can bet I'm not going to lose my weapon, and if I do, I'm going to try to find one or flee until I can get one.
JJ don't teach you how to sword fight, you fucking moron. Weapons fighting has no place in today's society where guns are so commonplace. Grow the fuck up, you loser.
kommisar 2 years ago
I noticed you didnt reply to my message containing tons of links to history documents and ancient pictures of Japanese men doing Jujitsu. There is a painting from like 500 years ago of a Samurai choking another samurai in the "rear naked choke" Your so lazy you wont even look it up when I give you tons of links to, your stupid... You only belive yourself, and you make up your own meanings to what I say. Yes in Jujitsu, not BJJ but Jujitsu they teach weapons, LOOK IT UP, YOUR THE STUPID ONE!
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
I noticed that you never proved samurais dropped their weapons so they could have wrestling matches.
They don't teach weapons anymore outside of forms. Kendo and fencing are about the closest you'll get to real weapons fighting. No one's going to want to bother learning how to fight with a sword when they can just buy a gun and kill any sword master with the pull of a trigger. You're living in a fucking fantasy. Grow the fuck up, you goddamn loser.
kommisar 2 years ago
See you dont listen to anyone, you take what information you like, and turn it around. You basically pick and choose the words out of my sentences, rearange them to how you like, and then call names... Thats not a argument, its just being a bitch... I gave you tons of websites, and they dont drop their weapons to fight, it dosent look like ring fighting... Your just some UFC fan boy that cant accept that he was wrong, which iv proven you wrong with history channel and tons of website links...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
"and they dont drop their weapons to fight"
That's not what you said before. You said these guys did wrestling matches on the battlefield. Haha, one doesn't even have to do ANY research to realize what a silly notion that is.
You said the "Human Weapon" clip was unrealistic, so how the fuck did you prove me wrong with something you yourself discredited? You're a real fucking bozo, not to mention a pathetic, sad, little freak with no friends. Get fucked, douchebag.
kommisar 2 years ago
See all you do is call names and change what people say. I NEVER said they dropped their weapons to have a wrestling match, your an idiot. You belive what you want, reguardless of the hundreds of facts and websites that streight up say "SAMURAI invented and use Jujitsu" and the Human weapon clip, not the whole video, the two second reinactment that they show of two guys dropping their weapons, not the whole show... Your too stupid to understand, I dont want to talk to you anymore, get a life.
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
I never said the Japs didn't invent JJ -- yet you've spent almost half your time insisting they did like anyone gives a shit.
They wouldn't have wrestling matches unless they didn't have weapons, now would they?
You can't use a clip and say it's a good example and evidence of what you're talking about, and then say it's half true. Which is it? Either you're using it as proof of you're not. You can't cherry pick it. Fuck off, you ghetto loser. Your ancestors would think you're a joke.
kommisar 2 years ago
You dont understand what people say to you, because you dont want to. You want to be correct, so you denaie anything and everything that can prove you wrong. I showed you tons of websites clearly saying the samurai invented Jujitsu and used it on the battle field weapons or not, they used it for fighting and killing people like it was made for. You showed me one website that just didnt mention it, when I showed you tons of them saying it streight up they did... Whos proof is better???
GuamKomudo 2 years ago

kommisar 2 years ago
Yep... All you have done is call names and act cool... Yet you still act like your correct when iv proven you wrong with tons of sources, yet you have failed to provied any sources on your side of the argument... GuamKomudo 2 years ago
You're confused and need professional help.
kommisar 2 years ago
Just as I thought... So you dont know who or why Jujitsu was invented??? Which yes, it was what we were talking about, dont act stupid... If you cannot provid any facts or sources stating that the Samurai did in fact not make and use Jujitsu for fighting when battle got to close for a sword, then you are inncorrect and have been proven wrong. So just keep calling names and twisting my words around, who needs facts when you can call names...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
No, we were talking about who invented sambo, BJJ, TKD, etc. I said BJJ was made in Brazil as it's modified JJ. It's not JJ with a different name, just like TKD isn't karate with a different name, etc. I never said JJ was invented by such and such. That's you and your crack-addled mind talking about nonsense no one ever brought up.
I also never said samurai never used JJ, you fucking buffoon. That's an even worse straw man.
Go ahead, keep wasting your time. I'll just insult you, fag.
kommisar 2 years ago
You actually did say that the samurai never made Jujitsu and that they didnt use it. You just want to be correct, so your changing what were talking about... Yes, they are alterd and modified, but no one can denaie that Japan was the one that made Jujitsu first and that 98% of the moves and techniques and philosophy behind them are Japanese. The uniform is the gi, the samurai wore funeral dress (white robe) under their armor to show they were ready to die in battle, strange resemblence...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
Quote me, asshole. Show me where I said that. I know you won't though. You never prove shit.
kommisar 2 years ago
As far as TKD...They basically use 90% of Shotokan Karate, the only difference is a slight influence from Taekkyun, and they like to throw way more kicks, watch ITF Taekwondo, when they actually punch,it looks like Karate...
btw BJJ was also made by a Japanese man,he tought a Gracie original Jujitsu, but the Gracie he tought was old, so he modified the moves taking out any moves that use brute strength and that sort of stuff, also they made it for sport, no more strikes, eyes, groin, fingers ect
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
ITF is considered pussy TKD. I've met plenty of TKD practitioners and never any that train or compete in that style.
TKD is almost like shotokan karate? I think not. Shotokan's premise is to attack the guy and only throw 3 strikes or so at most. If they don't hit the guy or KO him in such few strikes they move back. TKD has uses multiple-kick combos which are lighter and quicker than those in shotokan. You know fuck all. Go educate yourself for real as opposed to just watching movies.
kommisar 2 years ago
No art has eye gouges and shit like that. Those are bitch moves anyone can do. You don't "train" that kind of shit since if you do you'll wind up hurting your training partner very badly. Not even Maeda did that crap. This just further proves you're a deluded fucking idiot who LARPs more than he fights or trains.
Yes, BJJ is modified JJ, key word, "modified". It has an entirely different approach and some different techniques. That doesn't make them the same, now does it, dumbass?
kommisar 2 years ago
As a matter of fact when the samurai were fighting your so called "bitch moves" were what determind weather you ever saw your wife and kids again or were choked to death looking up at the sky for the last time... Watch my video I sent you, you will know soon enough how deluded I am... btw I love the Gracies, and I watched one of the biographies. They said a JAPANESE man modified the moves so the Gracie he was teaching could do the moves cause he was to old to use alot of strength =)
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
Look at any picture of a samurai dressed for battle. They are wearing thick armor. Eye pokes and groin kicks don't work against that, which is one of the many reasons why they wore armor. This is fucking common sense, you imbecile, and yet you would say such a stupid thing as how samurais would eye gouge each other. I guess in your little fantasy world they would drop their swords, spears or bows and then charge each other for a wrestling/eye gouging contest, hahaha!
kommisar 2 years ago
BBQsauceRELOADED 2 years ago
People might not say, oh, theres "Greek punching system" or something, but they very well know that Greeks used it and made it. When you have people streight up denaieing my peoples history and the fact that my people created originally one of the most effective fighting arts in the wrold used today that is horrible. Peopel make whole websites dedicated to making asian martial arts look stupid, and for us to have made a nessesity of modern UFC and for people to denaie it... Rediculous...
GuamKomudo 2 years ago
(Japanese people aren't indigenous to the land as they immigrated from China.)
kommisar 2 years ago
The origin of ancient boxing is too complicated to truly track down since boxing is probably the simplest form of combat sport there is (next to Sumo ^_^), and therefor it could very easily have developed in multiple areas simultaneously rather than one specific area. The earliest traceable origins of ancient boxing where actually in Mesopotamia.
Like all MAs, it all came together & evolved to suit whatever needs had to be met, be it self-defense, sport, or even entertainment (Capoeira).
BBQsauceRELOADED 2 years ago 2
Capoeira was not "evolved" for entertainment. It was a way for Brazilian slaves to become practitioners of martial arts seeing as they were not allowed to just study what the willed to. By making it seem they where dancing they where allowed to study s form of martial arts. Thus leaving us with Cap.
n1a9v4y1 2 years ago
@n1a9v4y1 Capoeira is pathetic
Naproxenum 1 year ago
That being said what happened to boxing is happening to asian TMAs. Just like modern boxing began to grow in England, the future of JJ might be Brazil.
But why the long face? Nobody has anything against Asian TMAs. Its natural that someone will reinvent something and make it more useful for THEIR needs. Nobody discredits Japan as the originator of JJ. BJJ is a diff story.
And if you're worried ppl will forget you'll always have an asshole like me on youtube to remind them. JJ is Japanese.
BBQsauceRELOADED 2 years ago 9

Hehe, I see.
Yeah, that other douche kept babbling about how the Japs made JJ even though I never argued against that. He also said samurais had wrestling matches on the ground (no weapons) during sword fights.
kommisar 2 years ago
well the japanese did invent JJ and it was designed to be used in combat situations during sword fighting, and in battle they would actually have "wrestling" matches on the ground. Mind you they didnt just drop their swords and start wrestlingg. it would start with them getting close and wrapped up in eachother while sword fightingg and then thats when someone would throw the other person and thats were it becam a "wrestling" match...

There are different styles in Sambo, all are pretty similar but there is a difference in i.e. Brazilian Sombo and Russian military Sambo.

It is an exclaimation like "yeah!" or "wow!" or "That's it!"
You will hear people yell it after a big throw or something.

i dont recall seeing kneebars in judo...
greyoldfellow 2 years ago
You wont see them in sport judo systems. (point competition)Traditional/self defense systems that retain all Kensetsu Waza (locks and holds) from their Ju Jutsu heritage will include leg joint attacks. Hope this helps.

i believe most if not all leglocks are not used in judo. someone correct me if im wrong please
LouhMaylin 2 years ago

If you lock down his free leg, he will have great difficulty turning
sambosteve 3 years ago
Question:
once down, how do you keep the guy from twisting to his left (lessoning the hold)
riegirrl 3 years ago
just learn sambo then ;)
sambosteve 3 years ago
sambo is no different than jiujitsu they are using the same bjj moves just setting them up different this shit is wac! just learn bjj!
6blackdude6 3 years ago
To say the least that is very inaccurate. Sambo is a style that dedicates much time to leg locks. Some bjj schools do not even allow leg locks at all, which is not good for teaching mixed martial arts or self defense. Sambo has also proven itself on the battle field in countless wars. So it is safe to assume that leg locks are useful for self defense. Also the fact that there are many fighters who train sambo is a testament to its strength in the ring. Sambo isn't wac, but your opionion is.

Some sambo schools don't allow chokes, so sambo is not that great either.
Bjjownsu10 2 years ago
People like you make BJJ look bad - BJJ came from Judo and in that sense 'stole moves.'
Compare any two martial arts striking styles. They have jabs and crosses, usually with different names. That doesn't make either style invalid. Stop tooling up the internet.
