Thanks. I would have liked to stretch out the ramp time, but anytime a soft start is used in a single phase application its best to keep it as short as possible. The reason actually several are, start cap fail, start windings heat build up and and burnt centrifugal starter switch contacts. The only 1ph motors that ramp time does not harm the motor are those that do not have a start winding or start capacitor or switch. Like a PSC or a shaded pole.
