no they should have done exactly what they did. the big deal is that volmer is getting credit for shutting down dwight freeney when in reality, freeney could have lit him up for maybe 2 or 3 sacks

Of course he had help, big deal against the best DE in the league. I'm pretty sure that's the way 31 teams operate against Freeney and he still manages to make plays, which he didn't in this game. Freeney got handled pretty well, though, even without Mankins ever touching him on many plays. Saw him getting pancaked at least 3 times...

this only shows his help on pass plays, 0 tackles for dwight freeney is ridiculous, and against a rookie? show some respect man, freeney was manhandled by vollmer himself especially on run plays, and double teamed on most pass plays, either way, vollmer's a freakin beastt

I don't know. He pancaked Freeney on the first snap without Mankins (the LG) doing anything. I don't know if you can argue Mankins had any effect on the play seeing as Freeney tried to go outside. I think Vollmer won the matchup clearly.

It takes away the spin and swim moves because if he gets the inside or outside leverage on Vollmer, Makins will be there to clean up. the only way for Freeney to get to Brady is to go around Vollmer with the speed rush or bull rush making him predictable.

If you are not convinced, look for yourself at the 0:55 mark. Freeney beats Vollmer badly with the spin move but cant get to Brady because Mankins is their to clean up.

@melosher again, when you know whats coming (as Vollmer did) its easy to stop. Freeney sets up his bull rush by getting Tackles to bite on the spin or speed rush and the surprise them with a bull rush. He was unable to do that with all the chips from the receivers and backs combined with the double team help of Mankins

Mankins doesn't even touch Freeney, Mankins is on the 3 technique. Now at 1:04 to about 1:10 Vollmer gets beat by the spin move and Mankins is there to clean up his mess.
