It is a polyurethane suit. My coach told me that they are now banned. It is what liquidtopazfire said. I would never wear one. You have to earn your place in swimming, not by wearing some suit that costs over a thousand dollars.

I believe that this polyurethane suit is not very conducive to a competitive atmosphere. These suits are making the swimmer, not the other way around. FINA needed to ban these earlier on; many world records were broken during these games by swimmers most people have never heard of because they were wearing these bathing suits (example- Stephanie Rice lost her world record to another swimmer, most likely because she had the suit while Rice did not).

It's not that the record was broken that matters, records were meant to be broken (besides who cares? He's retired). It's the conditions that matter. It's like if someone had a world record of holding their breath for ten minutes and that record was broken by a guy using a scuba tank. They're totally different conditions, ergo the records don't (or shouldn't, anyway) hold as much weight.

Actually, that example you just gave has nothing to do with it. If you use a scuba tank underwater, you can't consider it holding your breath. These guys are still swimming and have skill and stamina. They earn their records. Just because a swimsuit might make it milliseconds faster shouldn't matter.

Except in a sport such as swimming, milliseconds make all the difference. Think of darts. You could be millimeters away from a perfect bullseye, but if the other guy's shot is even a tiny bit closer you lose. Swimming also relies on the millimeters, that's what makes it a great sport. So if something is giving swimmers an edge that makes them a few millimeters ahead, then that's not right. It would be like if the guy who got the bull's eye was standing a few inches closer.

Also 9 year old children are wearing them which is disgusting and they must be completely spoiled. This morning at my swim meat someone protested the suit by writing no suit or slow on he chest and he wore 3 suits. He was disqualified because of this.
