I got CIN on its release day in Australia (days before the rest-of-the-world release) at 9 a.m.(store opening time). I was one of the first humans on the planet to buy it.
An epic album in all sense of the world. It has the perfect balance of songs. Second best album since Automatic for the People, New Adventures in Hi-Fi.
More tuneful perhaps, but it's not quite as impacting.
I can listen old r.e.m. and it takes me in this spirit going on back in there. these guys are just genius, like bethoven reborn in late 80's / early 90's and play some rock music. 1 of this rare bands that grow with every record, not except commercial handicaps, just real.
Please can the band tour this ? It sounds all we expect and more. My copy is on order.....I am on countdown. Am just suffering withdrawal symptoms since the last concert and last year's trip from UK to Athens.... experience of a lifetime......
Really wise last words of Michael. Great to hear that he really knows what role their music plays in peoples life and that that role can change significly over time.
I notice there's a bit more "yelling" than singing in Michael's style...is this something that he's experimenting with or a shift in the way he sings now?
They went from a very rich, sacred, almost jazz sound with Murmur to clattering rock and roll. Usually bands go the other way around. Still, I'll always have find memories.
Wished theyd leave all the snippets of the album out of this for the nerds among us who want to hear it fresh on release day.......apologies for nerdiness but thats how some of us roll!

I have all previous R.E.M. albums and this will be in my collection as soon as it comes out (earlier if I manage to bribe someone in the music shop to breack the day-1 LOL)
Good way to go out. With one of you best albums ever.

I bought Collapse Into Now today.
Listened to it for the first time this afternoon.
I expect it will grow on me as time passes, but my initial reaction was a bit of disappointment that I could barely hear Mike Mills' voice at all.
They should use his voice more. It's amazing and it would add so much.
I'd much rather hear more of Mike than these "guest" singers they included.
So far my favorite is Uberlin. Love the chord choices.
I also like the syncopated chord changes in "Walk It Back".

Mike Mills looks like my dad.
Michael Stipe - why does this man constantly try to sound profound where profundity is not required?
Peter Buck should not have been arrested for beating up a stewardess, he should have gotten arrested for this haircut.
Bill Berry was REM. That's it.
That being said, when their music is good, it is really really good.
By the way. FINALLY, Stipe is starting to get fat. Bout freaking time!!!
