*YES SIDE: all international chambers of commerce, most independent economists, 3 main political parties, IFA, IBEC, IDA, ISME, SIPTU, ICTU, most major trade unions, Small Firms Association, Pfizer, Ryanair, Intel, Microsoft.
The guy's a twonk. Whatever limited mandate the government has he has absolutely none and is only getting coverage because the No campaign are limited to Sinn Fein and those Coir nutters. I read the treaty, and am voting YES because I want to see the Charter of Fundamental Rights given a legal basis, once and for all.
@Gerard200224 Fundamental rights??????? what a hypocrite you are? How about the fundamental right of having a different opinion to yourself without being called a "twonk" .I worry about the world full of your kind of fundamental rights
Em, yeah god that's awful he's hiding that he's very pro-american, but that has nothing to do with the Lisbon treaty and whether it's a good thing for all Europeans or not. We'd all like our opinions to coincide with powerful groups of mainstream politicians, but it's not always the case. I say to hell with the religious extremists, the republicans, and the dodgy millionaires, I'm voting NO because it isn't right for Europe, and if it isn't too much to ask, I want the EU to become democratic.
The point is that Ganley claims to be pro-European, but he has no Irish or EU flags. He hides his very large American flag when a German TV crew come to do an interview.
As for democracy, a parliamentary vote is the correct why to decide on complex issues like Lisbon. As the public are being mis-led by the No campaigners.
Its ironic that as the Lisbon Treaty will make the EU more democratic you obviously either don't understand it or are trying to be misleading.
Em, yeah, I know what the video is about, and I have referred to Ganley as a dodgy millionaire. The Lisbon treaty however is independent of the people who support it or object to it.
Your line about Parliamentary vote doesn't seem to make any sense.
If the EU was democratic you would not have the situation of the Commission making all the new initiatives, and you certainly would not have a democratic referendum just discarded, as we saw in Parliament last June.
Why do the large poilitical parties not support democracy? Come on, if you want to make fun of small parties, then let the main parties first say that they support democracy, they support the Irish referendum 2008, and they support that the LISBON treaty is now dead, and a new treaty must be written
You think a yes vote would have prevented the Economy going down the toilet? The Anglo banking scandal?, John O'Donohue's expenses?
The subject of referendum hasn't changed on punctuation mark since it was last voted on, and a yes vote may keep our commissioner but what powers will he/she have?
I am absolutely not afraid of a second of a second referendum, my point is that it shouldn't be happening if the country we live in was truly democratic.
A yes vote last year obvisiously wouldn't have stopped the crisis happening but it has added increased uncertainty to our future. But my point is the no vote didn't help at all. Having another vote is not undemocratic perhaps though pushing nama through is or the fact that FF are still in power despite having lose the trust of the public.
A yes vote is the only option. Look what has happened to the country since we voted no last time.
Interestingly sinn fein/coir say that the treaty will allow abortion in ireland. It wont. But sinn fein weren't exactly pro-life for the last 40 years and coir have been very slient on the child abuse by the catholic church detailed in the ryan report. It seems from Sinn Feins/ Coir's point of view its ok to kill or abuse children as long as sinn fein/IRA or the catholic church are doing it.
Let's face it, Ganley is a prick, but that doesn't mean we should have to vote again a second time on a wholly unchanged treaty, claims that this flies in the face of democracy are true, people shouldn't be forced to say yes because that's what the government thinks we should do, we said no the first time by a perfectly fair ballot, why vote again? (P.S I'm a total Labour supporter)
So you think keeping our commissioner is not a change then? This time if you vote no we will lose our commissioner.
You seem to be afraid of a second referendum. If the first referendum was fair and people fully understood what they were voting on, you should have nothing to fear from a second one.
If you are actually a total Labour supporter you will vote yes and support your party.
LOL the true side of Ganley. "I believe in Europe" he claims. Yeah, one subservient to the USA and NATO. He will say and do anything to avoid Europe from being strong.
His wife is American. She uses this office too.
Just shows many journalists are out to get him.
I think he was wise to take it down for a German interview.
Many Germans still see the flag as the one that gave them a good hiding 63 years ago. Shows me how sensitive and astute he is.
My quibble is where he shoved it. But then he is much kinder to journalists than I would be.
