Your choice. You can wash, clay, polish if needed and then seal and stop. Or use a car wax and stop, or do what is called "Topping", that is to apply the paint sealant first and the apply a show car wax to try to maximize warmth, depth and gloss. I have an article on this on AutogeekOnline . net -Mike
@autogeek hey mike! thanks for the excellent tip! if i could ask you...i just waxed my car with a liquid wax 2 weeks ago, can i go ahead re-detail my car and do a sealant or is it too soon and it might give me trouble like smears or such? I wasn't too happy with the wax so i want to try a sealant protection instead.
Sure. If you want to really do it right then use a paint cleaner or a light polish first as this will remove the previously applied wax and let you start with a clean base. -Mike
That depends upon your criteria for an acceptable finish? Wash the car and then move it out into bright sun and look at the paint, if it's swirl-free and beautiful then you don't need to polish it. If you see swirls and you don't want swirls then you would need to polish the paint to remove the swirls. Tons of articles on detailing in my article list on AutogeekOnline . net
In this video he explains that there must NOT be any water spots before applying the paint sealant. But in this video: /watch?v=pmLKB6k3iBU they give a before and after result after applying the sealant with water spots EVERYWHERE. I sense some false advertising. ????
@ninjastar35 Keep in mind that we are showing how to do it, and the video you mention they put a tape so you can see that side that was prep and wax and the side that was not so you can see the before and after.
Excellent video. Mike knows his stuff. The car is pretty nice too, and I wish I had a garage like that. Now, replace Mike with a bikini clad babe, and you have a viral video.
Mike's passion for detailing is obvious and he should be commended. While theres plenty of videos regarding washing, cleaning and polishing / correction, no one else goes into such detail regarding the protection stage, I learned a lot of new things. WATCH ALL HIS VIDEOS !!
