Excellent job Tage! My older brother played this record for me when I was in high school and I was immediately hooked. Because of it, I learned the guitar, and it's been my lifelong companion in good times and bad, as have been Dan's songs. Thank you!
My God, what a song. I've owned Netherlands and The Innocent Age since they were released but now feel so guilty for not delving deeper into the work of a true genius. Can't thank you enough for sharing this and the other gems.
Dan died 2 years ago this week. Captured Angel was the first album my wife and I purchased after our marriage 33 years ago. Together we cried the day that Dan died. Pulled out the album (vinyl) today and spun it on the turntable. We lost a great songwriter and man that day.
@TheNoteCollector: Have to share with you an e-mail I received the day Dan died:
"1976, Jeff (that's me) sent me a silly "letter" on cassette tape to me while I was living in Casey Illinois... "Captured Angel" was playing in the back ground on the tape. 1978, lost my virginity....Findlay ... 'Nether Lands' ... 'Dancing Shoes' was playing. 1984... Christmas, My Ford Escort was broken down in Cleveland. I was waiting for Laura to rescue me, 'Same Old Lang Syne' was on the radio. RIP."
I was fortunate. My music experience was in full bloom when Dan started. All his music..but I am a fan of his early works. If it made air-time, to me, it wasn't his best. I have what I consider his "best of" on imeem. Feel free to listen!
this is a great song, video that you put to it, but I love to watch him play it solo, check it out. Does anyone know if he tuned his guitar differently for that song? I can't make it sound even close. Love how he bangs that e string. RIP Dan missed but still enjoyed by so many.
Those who only know Dan Fogelberg from what they hear on the radio miss out on jems like this one. So glad he added this to his set list on his last tour in 2003. Hearing Crow live was a rare treat indeed.
Tage. What can I say? Absolutely fantastic. I must have been in a cave, but just learned yesterday of Dan's passing. I am devastated. I started listening with Home Free ( my most loved album) and have never stopped. Thank you so much for what must have been a tremendous effort in putting this together. You have truly touched me.
Tage, your are the best video artist on YouTube. Keep up the good work...he (Dan Fogelberg) had many songs that an artist such as yourself can create to...go for it!!
Petalpainter, I am humbled by your kind words and I thank you for them too. I will make more dan vids when I manage to get hold of more of hos albums. I am in the process of tracking down some more at the moment. At the same time, I don't want to mass produce them or else they will just become junk, I want each one to be special, so it might take some time, but it will happen. Peace to you and yours
Excellent work, thanks! "Crow" is a good example of why Dan was a superstar. This was very edgy folk-pop back in the 70s and also very original. Many of Dan's fans are like Jimmy Buffett's, in that all they know is the greatest hits album. Dan's first 4 albums were simply incredible and I hope he gets his due now that he's gone.
Just watched it again - the best one on here! Do some more please of his older songs! Someone's Been Telling You Stories and the Last Nail that follows this song - all of them! Fans of the older songs will view them for sure! Thanks again, it's great.
Nice job! I too love his first five albums, and not his mega hits. Captured Angel is one of his best and underated, but Souveniers is still number one in my book! Thanks for the great video!
Hey again Tage! It's true, your vid is near the bottom of the list. I just now saw it. Another awesome job, gotta say. Did any of you also see a newer vid of Dan on the Johnny Carson show? I just saw that too-it's under Fogelbergvideo. Amazing! Beautiful job again Tage. Be Good. BB
Tage: I think one reason there are few views is because the link comes wayyy at the bottom of A LOT OF videos now posted to Dan. Any way to move it up when one simply searches DF's name on the home page? Second, this is not one of Dan's "top 40" songs -- it was written before he was a huge superstar. Personally I do not particularly like mega"hits" like Longer and Auld Lange Syne, etc. Netherlands, Captured Angel etc. were his best compositions.
Oh Tage(S.)-- perfecto! You even used the image I had in my own head at 3:05 when we see Dan's face as he sings "I wonder how much more I have to live." And at 3:31: "I heard your song, crow, for the last time" -- the images of the country road, just as Dan died at home on a rural country road in Maine. This haunting, prescient song is from "Captured Angel."
Thanks Eden. I have to say though, that I am amazed at the lack of views that this video has gotten so far. I thought the Fogelberg followers would be keen to see something new. But you like it, so that's the main thing.
Fantastic! I saw Dan perform this song live at a solo acoustic show in Seattle - 1992. It rocked. The song has always troubled me a bit, and the images you wove together here are startling...very appropriate for this edgy song. Bravo!!
wow Sarah, you did a hell of a job putting this clip together!the images were very sharp and pull you in along with the Music,as you watch it.( I never heard of this song either ),but it feels like I've heard it 100 times already.what a song writer he was. (rip)
