@rockmanfool those are codenames. codenames are used while a product is in development and before a final name has been decided for it. whistler was the codename for windows XP, and longhorn was the codename for vista.

Win98's startup sound brings me memories about my first computer from 2002... IMHO, best sounds are from: WinNT 5 Beta 1 (picture is awesome too), Win98 and WinXP; worst are from: WinNT 3.5, Longhorn, Vista and Seven.

Windows 95 beta should be Windows 3.1 startup sound. Basically, every Windows beta version before the final release, except Windows Vista beta (Windows Longhorn) had the startup and shutdown sound as the final Windows version before it. Epic fail dude!
