OH MAN!!! THis is awesome!! I was there 2nd row center!!! It was the first time I saw Queensryche. Two months later I found this bootleg on VHS at a music convention!!! Great POST!!!
I remember this!! I was at this concert Empire & Operation Mindcrime Best hard rock band in the world! xoxo I met Goeff twice in 1996 He is a verynice guy, sexy as hell.. much love to he and his family
This is an incredible performance. It even sounds amazing for having been most likely originally recorded in a VHS format, which has terrible sound quality, but these guys still manage to make this sound AWESOME!
@JohnnyCakesDoja When DeGarmo and Tate finally get it together again, they will rule the hard rock world one more time. Its gonna happen. Eventually they will get tired of making these terrible albums year after year, and eventually and hopefully write a really really good song like a Empire or a Jet City Woman or a Eyes of a Stranger, and then they will take over once more. Its only a matter of time i think.
my only criticism with them is geoff does dramatise things a little too much for my liking apart from that i would say they were by far the best metal band around at the time,
The performance of "Mindcrime" is always the high-point of any Queensryche concert. Like Rush's 2112, this album was Queensryche's creative manifesto, their masterwork, and another shining example of what can happen if the artist pursues their passion without outside hinderance.
One of the best performances of this song I've heard. It just amazes me how awesome it must have been to see Queensrÿche around this era - surely some of the best live performances of our time?
I love how Tate shows his emotions in not only his voice but the way he acts on stage. Adds a whole new emotion to the song. I noticed Roy Khan from kamelot does the same thing. Its really awesome and its one of the few reasons they are the best singers in metal.
Whenever I hear those tandem solos by DeGarmo And Wilton I still get a rush! What a beautiful thing. A Harmonized solo! If only any band today could come close to this level of musical maturity and grace. It seems today all you need to do to call yourself a "musician" is a bunch of pre-made loops and screaming and growling into a microphone. I feel sick when I listen to radio today. Mediocrities rule the day now.
The guitar interplay between Chris and Michael was incredible, especially those harmonized parts. They weren't just shredding or showing off, but their playing was remarkably melodic and mature. Both seemed to have a great understanding of composition and melody. Looking back, it's a bit odd to think that Queensryche had a Top 10 hit in their heyday. You just don't hear this kind of playing in mainstream music anymore....
he use to be great, im a true Queensryche fan, and agree one of my favorite bands ever but age has caught up with him, he dont sound anything like he use to, but as they get older thats going to happen, with maybe the exception of bruce dickenson who sounds as good today as he did in the 80's
He has been married to the same woman , their current manager now I believe , he has also 2 children (maybe more). 1 is dating the new guitar player and the other sings a song on the American Soldier album..
OMG I love the fucking Geoof tate dive off the back of the stage. In Jackson he did more of a swan dive and all I could say is I hope he didnt hurt himself.
God, I wish I lives back then! Queensryche's the best band ever made, and Geoff Tate's easily the best singer ever on this planet of ours. Neither Dickinson nor Halford even come close...

To me, DeGarmo was the most consistent live singer Queensryche ever had. Guy's so good.
funforalgernon 5 months ago
@funforalgernon - I always thought Queensryche's secret weapon live was Chris and Eddie's background vocals.

@Kannebas ...agreed!! Geoff is a very powerful force though too!!

@vinnie6576 - Of course. But Geoff's voice isn't exactly a secret, is it? =D
