So here's some tips. If you're in front of an audience, do what Derren does and ask them for their names. This makes it more personal for them and it also creates more rapport I think. Then when they're done with their part of the trick, shake their hands and thank them by name and ask the audience for an applause for them.
I let you in on a secret... Just ASSUME you've rapport talk as if you're talking to your mates. That will create instant rapport in 90% of the cases. This is an NLP trick.

Very nice Toruga! Excellent demonstration of coinciding minds.
However one slight remark and that is that and your volunteers stand with your backs to the audience a lot.
Try standing side ways just slight facing the audience next time. That way you can perfectly look at the volunteer and also talk to the audience.
BUT BLOODY PERFECT THIS IS!
